One of the McU's most important stars, Scarlett Johansson, shares the honest opinion that she and the rest of her co-stars had when shooting The Avengers. It wasn't the first bet by Marvel Studios to produce an epic superhero film, but it certainly was the first attempt to reunite most of them. Although they were skeptical, the actor revealed the scene that made them believe in the ambitious project they were involved in.
Johansson sat down with Vanity Fair for a retrospective on her career and her most important performances. Lost in Translation, Ghost World, Her, and Marriage Story were some of the movies she revisited during the interview. Additionally, Johansson talked about The Avengers, her 2012 superhero team-up film, which marked a major step forward for the MCU.

Scarlett Johansson made her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2009's Iron Man 2 as Natasha Romanoff. Her character got more screentime in her second appearance, 2012's The Avengers, which further highlighted her character, Black Widow.
Johansson's Black Widow was a major part of the franchise until her death in 2018's Avengers: Endgame, although she got her own standalone film, 2021's Black Widow, which took place before the events of Endgame. In a new interview with Vanity Fair ahead of the release of her directorial debut, Eleanor the Great, Johansson looked back at how impactful The Avengers was, and shared the group's thoughts on the film. The actress also revealed which scene terrified her the most: her four-second line in Russian.
In the segment, Johansson rewatched her most iconic films, including The Avengers. Around the 3:03 mark, she looked back at her stunt work and praised "incomparable" stunt performer...

Florence Pugh is reflecting on Yelena Belova’s direction in Thunderbolts** while recalling incidents from a challenging production, including a scorpion encounter and cast injuries on set. The Marvel film, directed by Jake Schreier, features a team of conflicted operatives led by Yelena and includes Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).
At last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Pugh revealed she completed a base jump from Merdeka 118, the second-tallest building in the world. The Malaysia stunt, filmed alongside longtime Marvel stunt coordinator Heidi Moneymaker and base jumper Katie Hansen, was not for individual recognition. “That day in Malaysia was an achievement for all of us,” she said. “We all got to say that we worked on that stunt, and what a powerful way to start a movie.”

Florence Pugh might have daredevil in her DNA.
At last summer’s San Diego Comic-Con, Pugh revealed that she had a major stunt in “Thunderbolts”: jumping off the second tallest building in the world, Merdeka, a 118-story skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It’s the type of terrifying feat that would freak most grandparents out, but Pugh’s grandmother, affectionately called “Granzo Pat,” didn’t seem to bat an eyelash during the London premiere of the Marvel movie.
“She loved the movie. She said, ‘Brilliant, darling. Very thrilling,’ but I didn’t ask her what she thought of the jump,” Pugh tells Variety in Los Angeles a few days later. “She’s also crazy, like she’s someone that does some pretty mad stuff, so maybe she just thought that was a walk in the park.”

It’s no secret that Marvel films come with high stakes and dramatic action. But every once in a while, an actor’s commitment to their craft overshadows even the most expensive CGI shot or press tour strategy. While Marvel has yet to be able to rope Tom Cruise into their projects, one of their actors has stepped up to do something even Cruise would be proud of. Florence Pugh, known for her performances and take-no-nonsense personality, has always brought something a little extra to the table. Whether she’s stealing scenes as Yelena Belova or clapping back at trolls on social media, Pugh never plays it safe. But her latest feat? It’s not just bold. It’s historic.

Stop me if you've heard this before — a motley crew of rejects are forced to team up and save the day, despite everyone who encounters them thinking they're doomed to fail. In the war classic "The Dirty Dozen," it's a pack of prisoners tasked with a suicide mission to kill Nazis in World War II. In the "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy, it's a bunch of ragtag would-be heroes with quirky personalities and quippy vocabularies saving the universe. In "The Suicide Squad," it's "The Dirty Dozen" but with supervillains directed by the guy who made the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films. But with "Thunderbolts*," it's a lineup of rejected mercenaries and social pariahs with superpowers who have to save themselves before they could ever hope to be useful to anyone else.
It's also one of the best films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, namely because it doesn't feel like something...

As Florence Pugh and David Harbour enter into the home stretch of the Thunderbolts* press tour, a couple of key absences are on their minds from their collective MCU debut in 2021’s Black Widow.
When Pugh joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Yelena Belova, she was introduced as the heir apparent to Scarlett Johansson’s outgoing Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. After all, Johansson’s character had died two years earlier in Avengers: Endgame, as her sacrifice played a key role in the Avengers finally taking down the almighty Thanos and restoring the population he blipped out of existence, including Yelena herself.
Johansson’s long-overdue solo movie was then meant to shed light on Natasha and Yelena’s origin story and also pass the torch to Pugh’s adoptive sister character. In the early ‘90s, they spent three years together in Ohio, posing as the daughters of Russian operatives Alexei Shostakov...

This post contains spoilers for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."
During the prolonged climax of James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," the titular superhero team has to break into a high-security spaceship being flown by the villainous High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji). In order to make their way inside, however, they have to fight down a hallway populated by the High Evolutionary's goons, each of them instructed to kill the heroes. In an exhilarating one-take sequence, the Guardians lay waste to the security guards, killing every one of them with aggression and panache.
/Film has written about the dark ambivalence of that scene, pointing out that the Guardians had just learned an important lesson about protecting all life and respecting the strange animal monsters in the High Evolutionary's thrall. Ballet has captivated audiences for centuries — there's something effortlessly elegant about it. In a surprise to no one, stories revolving around ballet make for intriguing movies. It's a world we know so little about — where there's always a mile to go, a bigger goal to accomplish.
In recent times, most films centered on ballerinas tend to include themes about achieving greatness while navigating jealousy in a cutthroat industry where attaining perfection isn't a need; it is a necessity. There's already an exciting take coming out in the form of the "John Wick" spin-off starring Ana de Armas, in which the actress plays a dancer-assassin who sets out to exact revenge for her family — and there's another, totally-unrelated, action-thriller flick also centered on ballerinas being helmed by Vicky Jewson (The Witcher: Blood Origin) from a script by Kate Freund.
It's called "Ballerina Overdrive" and it features one hell of a cast.

Ever wonder what it takes to bring your favorite superheroes to life? We know we have. That's why we reached out to stunt coordinator Heidi Moneymaker and asked her to shed light on the magic behind making Marvel movies and shows. Though you may not recognize Heidi's name, you've likely seen her work, as she's been a key player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade, having been Scarlett Johansson's stunt double in Iron Man 2, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Black Widow. The increased focus on female butt-kickers on TV has been a positive step for feminism and in trouncing stereotypes.

This article contains spoilers for Disney’s Mulan. You can read our spoiler-free review of the film here.
When Disney’s Mulan came out in 1998, American viewers had not yet seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), which was the first big wuxia hit film for American audiences. The animated feature takes its inspiration from a Chinese legend, but the film fits more into the traditional animated Disney Princess mold—and, with Eddie Murphy playing Mulan’s sidekick Mushu, the resulting film felt very American, despite its Chinese setting. Disney’s 2020 live-action film continues in the tradition of its other live-action remakes, but also leans into the legend behind the original animated feature—and draws on Chinese filmmaking to create something that honors the cartoon while standing solidly on its own. Here are all of the differences and similarities between the 1998 animated Disney Mulan and the 2020 live-action adaptation.

Halle Berry has played plenty of badasses in her acting career, including two superheroes, namely Storm and Catwoman. So it should come as no surprise that the actress chose to do most of her stunts in her latest role in John Wick 3: Parabellum. But as stunt performer Heidi Moneymaker, who trained Berry for the film revealed, there were two particular stunts which were deemed too dangerous for the actress to do herself.
"Most of my actors have been fairly game to do stuff, but my number one would be Halle Berry, because I trained her for John Wick 3 and we trained together for six months. She went through more than I can even mention here, but was just, no matter what, was 100% in the role, in the character. We were in Morocco during her fight scenes. Her stunt double rehearsed everything, but there were only two parts of that that Halle didn't do.

The onscreen exploits of stuntwomen, and their off-screen battles for fair and equal treatment, is explored in Stuntwomen: The Untold Hollywood Story, a new documentary from director April Wright for Shout! Studios that debuts September 22 on digital platforms.
Narrated by Fast & Furious franchise star Michelle Rodriquez and based on Mollie Gregory’s 2015 best-seller, the film chronicles the lives of women who perform the stunts in some of Hollywood’s biggest action sequences — from the early days of silent movies to today’s blockbusters. The producers are Stephanie Austin, Michael Gruskoff and Marion Rosenberg.
“These unheralded heroines are the generations of stuntwomen who risked their lives in front of the camera, while behind it they fought for equal rights with male stunt performers, battled sexism and harassment, sustained life-threatening injuries and returned to the fray after each battle,” the producing team said in a joint statement.

Scarlett Johansson And Heidi Moneymaker

When Scarlett Johansson was first cast in 2009 as ballet dancer turned fistfighting superspy Black Widow in Marvel's Iron Man 2, she wasn't exactly prepared for the part. "I'd never stepped foot in a gym," she confesses. "I had no experience with any sort of martial arts or anything like that."
She turned out to be a quick learner, especially after being paired with stuntwoman Heidi Moneymaker, who's been training with and doubling for the actress in Marvel movies ever since. So far she's had appearances in six ...

With Captain Marvel now well into production – as evidenced by a flurry of set photos and videos – we’re starting to learn a little bit about what lies ahead for the titular hero’s McU debut. From a 90’s setting to a big role for Nick Fury, there seems to be much for fans to look forward to here, and if a new report is to be believed, there may be yet another reason why you should be excited for the pic.
Coming to us from Reddit – hardly the most reliable source, but it has yielded accurate intel in the past – a user is claiming that none other than Scarlett Johansson will be reprising her role as Black Widow for Captain Marvel. This is the first we’re hearing of a possible appearance for the character, so take it with a grain of salt, but according to this individual, Heidi Moneymaker...

There are many constants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one thing that certainly won’t ever stand still is Black Widow’s endless experiments in haircuts.
From the weird bouncy doll hair in her Iron Man 2 debut, to the wavy red barnet of Age of Ultron to the Farrah Fawcett 70s spy chic of Civil War, she’s always sporting a new look. Perhaps the most dramatic, however, is to come this May, when she ditches red for blonde in Avengers: Infinity War.
Her hair is so noticeable in fact that, when we saw the Instagram photos from the Avengers 4 set below, we realized very quickly that something was off. Posted by Black Widow stuntwoman (and owner of a super cool name) Heidi Moneymaker, the outfit and hairdo is taken straight from the Lagos-set opening of Captain America: Civil War.

While production on Avengers 4 will carry over into the new year, we reported last week that Paul Bettany has wrapped on the movie. Now it seems that another integral part of the production has wrapped. Heidi Moneymaker, who is Scarlett Johansson's stunt double on the set, shared an Instagram photo earlier this week that revealed she has also wrapped. But the photo may have teased something else as well. The image in question features Scarlett Johansson wearing a very familiar outfit, which strangling flash back to the events of Captain America: Civil War.
While there is no clear-cut confirmation that this flashback is taking place, Scarlett Johansson is seen wearing the same tan coat from the opening scenes of Captain America: Civil War, and her hairstyle is the same as it was in that scene as well. The scene in question was an epic fight in Lagos, which involved...

Just a quick head-up: For those of you in the Los Angeles area, next weekend, April 22-24, marks the occasion for the second annual Artemis Women in Action Film Festival, playing at the newly refurbished Ahrya Fine Arts Theater in Beverly Hills. This festival, a labor of love project from athlete-actress Melanie Wise and writer-producers Sean Newcombe and Zack Baldwin, highlights the cinematic contributions of women in movies, in the stunt field as well as actresses in the realm of action cinema, and also highlights real-life women who have made significant, pioneering contributions to the furthering of women in sports and other traditionally male-dominated arenas.
Wise, an actress, athlete, aspiring filmmaker and one of the founding members of Artemis Motion Pictures, the group behind the festival, remembers her days auditioning for countless roles in TV and movies that amounted essentially to helpless women in peril. But being six feet tall herself,...

It was revealed this week that Scarlett Johansson is expecting her first child with fiancé Romain Dauriac, but despite the happy news for the couple, this has of course led to speculation about what it means for her role as the Black Widow in Joss Whedon’s star-studded sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron.
According to E! News, the baby is due in August and the actress is still set to head straight to work on the Avengers Assemble follow-up when press for Captain America: The Winter Soldier wraps up. A source tells the site that, “They’re going to fast-track her scenes,” while Marvel refused to comment about the production which begins on April 5th.
Gossip sites didn’t pick up on the fact that Johansson was showing any signs of pregnancy when she appeared at the Oscars this past Sunday, so it’s certainly feasible that she could indeed...

Los Angeles, April 25: Actress Scarlett Johansson, who had to work hard to get into shape to play Black Widow in "The Avengers", says she is worried about her body.
But the actress is happy that her action role has got her into the best shape she has ever been in.
"Every woman has body worries, and I'm not exempt from that. But part of the by-product of spending that much time in the gym is that you can fit into a cat suit," contactmusic.com quoted her as saying.
Johansson plays as Black Widow and her spy character in the superhero movie is fierce. She had to work very closely with her stunt-double Heidi Moneymaker to get her fight scenes right.
"The idea is that Moneymaker and I become one and we can start.

Scarlett Johansson has 'body worries'. Despite her sex symbol status, the actress star has issues with her figure like all women do, but her all-action role in 'Avengers Assemble' as Black Widow got her into the best shape she's ever been in. She said: 'Every woman has body worries, and I'm not exempt from that. But part of the by-product of spending that much time in the gym is that you can fit into a catsuit.' Scarlett's spy character in the superhero movie is 'very bendy and fierce' and the screen beauty had to work very closely with her stunt-double Heidi Moneymaker to get her fight scenes right. In an interview with UK TV show 'Daybreak', she revealed: 'The...

Reprising her role as the butt-kicking Black Widow in The Avengers, Scarlett Johansson had her own butt to worry about. Namely, how it looked in her skin-tight, curve-hugging costume. "First of all, every woman has body worries. I'm not exempt from that," she tells ITV1's Daybreak morning show in the U.K. on Tuesday. "But beyond part of the by-product of spending that much time in the gym is that you can fit into a cat suit." But those workouts weren't all about her hot bod. Johansson, 27, who's promoting the latest installment of the superhero franchise, in theaters May...

There's no getting around the fact that The Avengers would require its stars to put in a lot of work when it comes to action, and there was one cast member in particular who was called upon to train in various forms of fighting styles. That was Scarlett Johansson, who reveals that she found her brief action scenes in Iron Man 2 a great help in getting ready for a larger role in The Avengers. "Stunts and fights are a huge part of my work on this film and being able to have a fighting style that audiences remember from ‘Iron Man 2’ is awesome. Jonathan Eusebio created and choreographed the style and look of the movements and Heidi Moneymaker, my stunt double, helped me learn them. What they both did for me is so important because it is just as much a creation of the character as whatever dramatic...
