Having dominated the Netflix charts for weeks and emerging as one of the streamer's most-watched originals ever, the British thriller series Adolescence was beaten to the number one spot on Sunday by the new release The Gardener. The Spanish-language romantic thriller scored more points than Adolescence, according to FlixPatrol, a platform that compiles data across streamers to tabulate rankings. On Sunday, Adolescence scored 659 points, while The Gardener led the field with 761 points. The recently released seventh season of the dystopian science-fiction anthology series Black Mirror took the third spot, while the poorly received medical drama Pulse finished fourth. The top five list was rounded out by the true-crime series Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing.
Starring Álvaro Rico, The Gardener follows Elmer, a young man who works as an assassin for his controlling mother. Elmer feels no emotion; it's a condition that he has lived with after a childhood accident.

World premiering in the main Canneseries competition, “El Inmortal – Gangs of Madrid” marks the latest original series from Movistar Plus, the Spanish pay TV/SVOD arm of Telefonica, made with Banijay’s Dlo Producciones and Telemundo Streaming Studios. Beta Film handles international distribution.
It shows. A Movistar Plus hallmark, “El Inmortal” reflects a real-life Spanish reality, the rise and fall – or here, fall and rise, then maybe fall and rebound – of the founding leader of Los Miami, a gang which controlled Madrid’s insatiable ‘90s drug business. José Antonio’s real-life counterpart survived four attempts on his life, becoming a legend and gaining his epic sobriquet.
But it also nails other facets of high-end scripted fiction.
“El Inmortal” begins as quiet-spoken ‘90s Madrid drug lord José insists on living his life, driving his infant daughter to her posh primary school.
Just after dropping her off, a motorbike passes spraying bullets,...

Airing on Amazon Prime Video and produced by ViacomCBS International Studios (Vis), Spanish broadcaster Tve and production-distribution house Onza Ent., “Parot” refers in its title one of the most controversial pieces of legislation in recent Spanish history.
The Parot doctrine was inspired by a 2006 Spanish Supreme Court decision abrogating Spanish laws reducing the maximum terms of imprisonment for persons convicted of serious crimes.
The doctrine was struck down by a European court decision in 2013, sparking the liberation from Spanish goals of a wide spectrum of inmates whose sentences extended well beyond the 30-year maximum of the time. Their release sparked bitter debate between the families of victims and defenders of human rights who saw little gain in life imprisonment.
