The Directors Guild of America has named the nominees for its 2024 awards in the outstanding directorial achievement in television, commercials and documentary categories. “Shogun,” “The Bear” and “The Penguin” all lead with three nominations each.

The winners will be announced at the 77th Annual DGA Awards on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA.

Nominees for film and the Michael Apted award for first-time theatrical feature film will be announced on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Here are this year’s TV nominees:

The Directors Guild of America has announced its TV, documentary and commercial award nominations for the 2025 DGA Awards.

The guild will reveal its theatrical feature film and first time feature film nominees on Wednesday.

The guild previously announced that Ang Lee would receive a lifetime achievement honor at the 77th annual DGA Awards.

The 2025 DGA Awards is set to take place on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Jon Hamm is reminiscing about the first time he hosted Saturday Night Live, and the Mad Men alum said he was “very, very scared.”

Hamm has hosted SNL three times, and during an appearance on The Tonight Show to promote his latest series, Landman, the actor recalled how he felt hosting the late-night sketch show.

“I remember being very, very scared up until about 10 seconds before you go out the door,” Hamm told host and SNL alum Jimmy Fallon. “And [stage manager] Gena Rositano’s back there counting you down, screaming in your ear, and you’re looking at a tiny screen, and your back is up against the wall, and you have to walk down the steps. ‘Don’t trip,’ that’s all I was thinking about.”

The Directors Guild of America held its 76th annual awards tonight at the Beverly Hilton. Christopher Nolan took home the night’s top honor for Oppenheimer. Celine Song took home the prize for first-time theatrical film for Past Lives.

The DGA is a strong predictor of Oscar success historically, missing the eventual Best Director winner only eight times in 75 years. The group handed its top trophy to the Daniels for Everything Everywhere All at Once last year, and Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert went on to snag the Academy Award a month later, becoming only the third duo to claim that prized statuette.

The winners of the Directors Guild of America Outstanding Directorial Achievement Awards for 2021 were announced tonight during the 74th Annual DGA Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. Jane Campion won the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film for The Power of the Dog.

Judd Apatow hosted the ceremony before an audience of more than 800 guests. FX’s “Fosse/Verdon” dominated the first round of Directors Guild of America TV nominations, landing three in the TV movie/limited series — for directors Jessica Yu, Minkie Spiro and Thomas Kail.

Yu, Spiro and Kail will face off against “Chernobyl” director Johan Renck, who won the Emmy for that HBO limited series in September. Also up for the award are “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie” director Vince Gilligan and “When They See Us” director Ava DuVernay, both for Netflix projects.

But the big news Monday was the DGA’s decision to hold back on revealing nominations in other key categories, including drama and comedy. The org said nomination announcements for the Comedy Series, Dramatic Series and Variety/Talk/News/Sports – Specials categories will be announced on Friday, Jan. 10 “due to a re-vote related to a newly implemented electronic entry submissions process.”

The Directors Guild unveiled nominations Monday in its limited series categories for the 72nd DGA Awards (see list below). But due to what it calls “a re-vote related to a newly implemented electronic entry submissions process,” the series noms aren’t out today.

But just last week, the guild announced that Jill Soloway — a DGA Award winner for her work on Transparent — has had the Amazon comedy’s chances of landing one final Directors Guild of America nomination forseries hampered by an internal DGA error. “We regret to inform you that the following entry was inadvertently omitted from the Comedy Series ballot: #165a. Transparent Musicale Finale, Jill Soloway,” the DGA wrote in an email to members, offering those who wish to recast their vote in this category to do so following a link.
