All 12 Stuntcast Guest Stars in Season Four of ‘The Bear,’ Ranked
Image
Warning: contains spoilers from Season 4 of The Bear.

Last year, just ahead of The Bear’s Season Three premiere, Oliver “Cicero” Platt gave an interview to Andi Ortiz at The Wrap. On the subject of “Fishes,” the Christmas flashback episode from The Bear’s second season, Platt revealed that series creator Christopher Storer had been hearing from actors who wanted to appear on the show, but that Storer’s vision was so clear, such actors’ fame or glamor were of no consequence to him: “Like, f—ing Marlon Brando could be calling him, and if Marlon wasn’t right for whatever the role, he’d find a polite way to say, ‘I’m so flattered. I’m gonna have something else for you in the future.’”

And yet, “Fishes” is memorable, in large part, for the many distractingly well-known faces who show up to play members of the extended Berzatto family.

‘The Bear’ Season 3 Recap: What to Remember Before Season 4
Image
“The Bear” Season 3 was criticized at the time of its release for its inconsistent plotting and lack of forward progression.

While it is true that less happened in the season than those that preceded it, though, there are still moments and developments throughout it that are important to remember before you watch “The Bear” Season 4. Case in point: Even the season’s reflective premiere, which is comprised mostly of flashbacks to Carmy’s (Jeremy Allen White) ascent up the culinary industry, revealed to viewers that Marcus’ (Lionel Boyce) mother died on the Bear’s preview night.

With that in mind, here is everything you need to remember from “The Bear” Season 3 before you watch the FX series’ newest episodes.

‘Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen’ recap: After disastrous maple challenge, eliminated chef must contend with Canadian bacon
Image
"After being eliminated I felt like I truly hit a rock bottom," said eliminated Top Chef contestant Bailey Sullivan upon entering Last Chance Kitchen. "It's crazy too, because I watched a lot of Top Chef, and there's moments where you see people do things and you're like, why are you doing that? And that's what I felt like I was saying to myself." Alas, in "Brunch à la Boulud," she decided to make a tart for renowned chef and guest judge Daniel Boulud, even though baked goods aren't her specialty. That was a maple syrup challenge, but Tom Colicchio wasn't about to let her escape Canadian delicacies that easily. So for her Lck battle against Sam Olayinka and Mimi Weissenborn, she had to make an elevated dinner entree out of Canadian bacon. Watch the entire battle above.

‘Top Chef’ 22 recap: ‘Brunch à la Boulud’ was quintessentially Canadian, from the poutine to the maple syrup
Image
Last week in the season premiere of Top Chef, "Across Canada, We Go!," the chefs teamed up for a Quickfire Challenge in which they based their dishes around specific sets of ingredients chosen from the Top Chef pantry and by each of the judges. The team of César Murillo, Mimi Weissenborn, and Katianna Hong won that battle with their apple and fennel soup with clams, corn, and chorizo relish. But Mimi had much less luck in the Elimination Challenge, which pitted the teammates against each other as they prepared meals inspired by the five different regions of Canada. Vincenzo "Vinny" Loseto prevailed with a perfectly cooked confit salmon, but Mimi was unable to manage her time effectively. She overcooked her potatoes and dried out her pork. So she was eliminated and sent to Last Chance Kitchen in the hopes of earning a spot back in the main competition.

This week...

Martha Stewart Recalls Being ‘Dragged Into Solitary,’ Denied Food & …
Image
Martha Stewart was “dragged into solitary” during her infamous prison stint.

When Martha Stewart went to prison, it did little to change her public image. If anything, it made many people wince at how eager our justice system was to make an example.

The experience did teach her a lot about prison life. It is an unjust, dehumanizing, man-made horror.

Martha Stewart opened up about spending time in solitary confinement, going without food or water for 24 hours.

Cultural icon Martha Stewart speaks on the Netflix documentary about her, which released on October 30, 2024. (Image Credit: Netflix) Martha Stewart spent time in solitary confinement

There are morally better, more sympathetic celebrities than Todd and Julie Chrisley to highlight carceral injustice.

Decades ago, Martha Stewart served a five-month prison sentence at Alderson Federal Prison Camp in West Virginia. The facility, nicknamed Camp Cupcake, was supposedly one of the nicer federal prisons. If that’s true,...

“They really made it naturally annoying”: Marvel Star Will Poulter Got the Cold Shoulder after Fooling One of the Most Famous Chefs in the World in ‘The Bear’ Season 3
Image
Will Poulter has worked on a variety of projects before joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Although his character’s fate remains a mystery in the superhero franchise, he is back as Luca in the third season of the acclaimed FX series, The Bear.

A still from The Bear | Hulu

Poulter has been the first of the many high-profile guest stars to appear on season 2 of the show. Luca is basically a Copenhagen dessert chef who trains one of the main characters, Sydney Adamu (played by Ayo Edebiri) in episode 4.

However, his return made him interact with several other characters, including renowned chef Daniel Boulud. Their interaction ended up irritating the latter, only to understand the show’s big plans later on.

What ‘The Bear’ Gets Right and Wrong About Toxic Kitchens
Image
I’ve been through culinary school and worked in professional kitchens, and I know it’s easy to nitpick The Bear for certain unrealistic details (Carmy’s utter indifference to food costs being at the top of my list). However, the show also gets a lot of things absolutely right: the razor-thin profit margins that confound restaurant owner Jimmy; the deep anxiety and glowing satisfaction we see on Tina’s face as she works to become a competent fine dining cook; and, especially, the deeply-entrenched culture, adapted directly from European...

Image
The Bear Season 3 had a lot on its plate, but it also found a way to add some famous guest stars. Josh Hartnett was one of them, and the actor explained how his cameo came to be.

The Bear Season 2 introduced several high-profile cameos from actors like Jamie Lee Curtis, Bob Odenkirk, and Olivia Colman, and Season 3 continued the tradition. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Josh Hartnett explained the cameo wasn't a last-minute decision, but it was something years in the making. In Season 3, Josh Hartnett plays Frank, a character that has been hinted at in past seasons, but never made an appearance. He plays Tiffany's fianc and Richie's worst nightmare.

The Bear Season 3, Episode 1 Timeline Explained
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Bear season 3, episode 1, "Tomorrow."

The Bear season 3's unique opening episode uses flashbacks and present-day scenes to build tension and reveal more about Carmy's journey. The inclusion of real restaurants and chefs, like Noma's Ren Redzepi and Daniel's Daniel Boulud, adds authenticity to the show and showcases Carmy's culinary skills. The focus on Carmy's relationships with his family and colleagues, particularly his sister Sugar and late brother Mikey, adds depth to the character's development.

The Bear season 3 opens with a unique episode, jumping around the timeline of Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto's professional career, and it can become disorientating if it's not given enough focus. The Bear season 2's ending left various characters in some precarious social situations, so choosing not to resolve those issues for an entire episode of the next season does a brilliant job of building tension. The Bear season 3, episode 1, "Tomorrow," mixes...

The Bear Season 3 Premiere Recap: The Calm After the Storm — Grade It!
Image
After the whirlwind of chaos that was The Bear’s Season 2 finale, Hulu’s Emmy-winning dramedy returns on a subdued note, as Carmy reflects on the path that led him here.

Tuesday’s Season 3 premiere is light on dialogue and heavy on atmosphere (with a lush ambient score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross), following Carmy as he heads back into the kitchen after his restaurant’s opening night, his mind flooding with memories of his culinary training. He gets up at dawn and enters his restaurant’s dining room alone, meticulously cleaning up and putting things back in order.

The Bear: Season 3

Episodes viewed: 10 of 10

Streaming on: Disney+

Very mild spoilers to follow

How do you follow up a dish that was — to borrow a food writing cliché — cooked to perfection? Like The Godfather Part II, the remarkable second season of The Bear, the Chicago-set comedy-drama (heavy emphasis on the ‘drama’), was the rare sequel that surpassed the original, a masterpiece in ten episodes. Perhaps inviting further comparisons to The Godfather, this new run has been titled “The Bear: Part III”, suggesting a family saga of Corleone-ian proportions.

This time around, Jeremy Allen White’s Chef Carmy is keen to “constantly evolve through passion and creativity” — and so, evidently, is The Bear’s showrunner Christopher Storer. The first episode of this new run is essentially a 37-minute non-narrative montage, an impressionistic edit of everything that led Carmy to this point. It feels like both an arty ‘Previously, on…’ recap for returning...

This post contains spoilers for the third season of The Bear, which is now streaming in its entirety on Hulu. But the significant spoilers won’t come for a while, and you’ll get another warning first.

Martha Stewart didn’t talk to CNN for a new original documentary series the news outlet has produced about her. But she’s still the star of the show.

Image
With the opening of Funke this month — and last year’s arrival of a Jon & Vinny’s as well as Mexican steakhouse Hideaway — the Beverly Hills dining scene is on a roll. Three other new restaurants of note have just debuted as well as a slew of others on the way.

Rosewood Residences Beverly Hills Tap Sally Forster Jones and Tomer Fridman to Lead Sales (Exclusive)
Image
As branded residences continue to take off in Los Angeles — such as the Pendry Residences on the Sunset Strip and the new Mandarin Oriental Residences on Wilshire Boulevard — the in-development Rosewood Residences Beverly Hills is making moves to open next year.

Nahla Capital and Gpi Companies, the developers of the Rosewood Residences, have announced that top L.A. real estate agents Sally Forster Jones and Tomer Fridman of Compass have been tapped to exclusively lead sales for the luxury project, which broke ground in June of last year and is expected to open near the end of 2024.

Located on South Santa Monica Boulevard and across Charleville Boulevard from the Peninsula Hotel, the project includes four floors encompassing 17 residences, each of which has a unique design. They range in size from around 3,000 square feet and go up to around 7,500 square feet at the penthouse level. The starting price of the residences,...

Chef Daniel Boulud’s Café Boulud Arrives in Beverly Hills This Year
Image
Café Boulud is coming to Beverly Hills in a move that marks chef Daniel Boulud’s first West Coast operation. The restaurant is expected to open in late 2023 at the Mandarin Oriental Residences Beverly Hills, a new boutique condominium (the first to open in the neighborhood in a decade) offering 54 private residences, developed by luxury real estate investment and development firm Shvo.

The Café Boulud brand is named after the original Café Boulud, founded by Boulud’s great-grandparents on the family’s farm outside of Lyon, France. In honor of this heritage, Boulud focuses his menu on classic French dishes, seasonal specialties determined by the local market, vegetables and global flavors.

“I have been visiting Los Angeles for more than 30 years and have many fond memories from filming a TV series, After Hour, with chefs and restaurants across the city many years ago. I always teased Wolfgang [Puck] that if he...

Michelle Yeoh on “Hearing Angels Sing” on Set of ‘Wicked’
Image
Everything Everywhere All at Once Oscar nominee Michelle Yeoh skipped the Super Bowl in favor of a private dinner prepared by Michelin-star chef Daniel Boulud and hosted by Mandarin Oriental Residences and real estate developer Michael Shvo on Feb. 12.

The actress, who jetted in from London for the weekend (and the Oscar nominees luncheon where she caught up with Tom Cruise), was on break from filming her role as Madame Morrible in the Jon Chu-directed big-screen adaptation of the musical Wicked. Of the much anticipated adaptation of the Broadway smash, she tells THR that the movie is going amazingly so far.

“Jon Chu has always been such an incredible filmmaker, and they were right to wait for the right time to find the right director,” she says before turning her attention to her co-stars, playing Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. “And with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, it’s like a dream.

Inside Michelle Yeoh’s Dinner at Her Awards-Seasons “Oasis,” the New Mandarin Oriental Residences in Beverly Hills

Even the Super Bowl wasn’t going to keep this crowd away from celebrating Michelle Yeoh and her historic Oscar nomination as the first Asian woman with a nod in the best actress category.

On Sunday night — while the last quarter of the big game was still being played — around 100 guests arrived at the new Mandarin Oriental Residences in Beverly Hills for a dinner in honor of the Everything Everywhere All at Once star.

Hosted by project developer Michael Shvo, chef Daniel Boulud and Mandarin Oriental, the night began with a cocktail party, where a large-screen TV had the game on.

One guest, Angela Bassett, told The Hollywood Reporter she had caught Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance before heading over to fete her fellow Oscar nominee Yeoh (with whom she starred in the 2021 film Gunpowder Milkshake). Said Bassett of Rihanna (who is nominated for an Oscar for her Black Panther: Wakanda Forever...

Image

This coming holiday season, many glasses raised in Hollywood may be filled with spiritless spirits. Stars are jumping into the nonalcoholic adult beverage market with their own brands; sales are up dramatically in the 395 million sector (rising 20.6 percent between August 2021 and August 2022, according to market research company NielsenIQ); and a growing list of celebs are speaking out about alcohol-free, sober and sober-curious lifestyles (Ben Affleck and wife Jennifer Lopez, Anne Hathaway, Chrissy Teigen, Drew Barrymore and Kit Harington among them). Also driving demand is a pandemic-fueled societal focus on wellness.

“We are at the beginning of a new era of social drinking,” trumpets Christopher Lackner, co-founder of Jeng, a maker of CBD-infused, alcohol-free canned cocktails (including a Jeng & Tonic, and a Paloma). “Now that there are high-quality alternatives, it’s no longer difficult or awkward to be sober. In fact, it’s quite a treat.

The Best New Patios for a Business Lunch in Beverly Hills and Century City
Image
With close to 365 days of flawless weather, outdoor dining is a year-round occurrence in Los Angeles, and even more so during a pandemic. And now that summer is officially here, there’s nothing like a lively patio, especially in the power-lunch centers of Beverly Hills and Century City, where the majority of talent agencies and entertainment law firms are perched.

Industry regulars say that patios throughout Century City and Beverly Hills are bustling these days. “As Beyoncé declares in her new single, ‘Break My Soul,’ we are ‘back outside’,” says Patrik-Ian Polk, co-executive producer of Starz’s P-Valley. “As convenient as Zoom meetings are, nothing beats the in-person L.A. business lunch circuit. It’s a vital part of the entertainment industry social scene that was sorely missed.” UTA partner Darnell Strom tells THR that he feels it’s harder to get a reservation “last second” right now in the area.

As such, this week’s show bypassed the Quickfire Challenge and went straight to the main event.
