When it comes to environmental storytelling, there’s several different routes a project can take. Some have opted for scaring an audience into action (like Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up) while others have tried to Trojan horse climate messages into more uplifting fare, or take a more by-the-numbers documentary approach.

For Extrapolations, Apple TV+’s new anthology drama following eight different stories of people’s lives upended by climate change, creator Scott Z. Burns is taking inspiration from another future-looking anthology series, as star Kit Harington recalled how “Scott always described this to me as a kind of Black Mirror of a climate change show, and I think it falls in that.”

“There are thriller elements to it, there are horror elements to it and it should scare you, and it will scare you, but it’s also really thought-provoking,” Harington told The Hollywood Reporter at the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Tuesday.

Sarah Michelle Gellar explains that her short-lived series, Ringer, was initially meant to be very different and explains why it ended. Debuting on The CW in September 2011, Ringer featured Gellar in the role of Bridget Kelly. A recovering drug addict who flees her native Wyoming after witnessing a murder, Bridget goes to New York to find her estranged twin sister Siobhan (also played by Gellar). But after discovering that Siobhan has apparently committed suicide, Bridget assumes her sister's identity and lives alongside New York's elite. The soapy drama's cast included Ioan Gruffudd, Nestor Carbonell, Zoey Deutch, Kristoffer Polaha, Mike Colter, and Tara Summers.

The Buffy alum says it was her decision to end the series after a single season in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I got pregnant with my second child, which was a surprise, so I turned to CW like, ‘I can’t,'” she recalls. “They would’ve picked it up again. I just couldn’t do it.”

If a story is based on real-life events, can it ever really be spoiled? That's one of those infamous internet arguments that will rage on until the end of time, especially as the biopics keep pouring in from Hollywood. But the latest entry into the genre doesn't care how you feel about knowing the ending — it's leading with the inevitable, then rewinding to tell the full story.

"Spoiler Alert" is based on the memoir by TVLine founder and entertainment reporter Michael Ausiello, and follows the 14-year relationship between Michael (Jim Parsons) and Kit (Ben Aldridge) prior to Kit's eventual death from cancer. Roadside Attractions has revealed an official trailer for a true story inspirational dramedy titled Gigi & Nate, from filmmaker Nick Hamm. The film is arriving in theaters in early September, for those interested in watching. A young man's life is turned upside down after he is left a quadriplegic. Moving forward seems near impossible until he meets his unlikely service animal, Gigi - a curious and intelligent capuchin monkey. She helps Nate find what he needs most: hope. Charlie Rowe stars in the film as Nate, with an ensemble cast including Zoe Margaret Colletti, Marcia Gay Harden, Josephine Langford, Jim Belushi (!!), Diane Ladd, Tara Summers, and Hannah Alligood. This looks extra cheesy, especially with the music in this trailer, but the little monkey is so adorable and so lovely.

Good Deed Entertainment has released the official trailer for an indie drama titled Major Arcana, which is a reference to tarot cards and the special set of cards known as "Major Arcana". Hence why the poster (below) has tarot cards on it. A long-troubled itinerant carpenter returns home to small town Vermont and attempts to build a log cabin by hand, hoping to free himself from a cycle of poverty and addiction. But when Dink reconnects with Sierra, a woman with whom he shares a complicated past, he becomes locked in a desperate struggle between the person he was and the person he hopes to become. That intrigue helps fuel the new film Driven, which presents DeLorean as a side character to the life of Jim Hoffman, who befriended and then potentially betrayed him. Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for a new film called Driven, which tells a fictional account of the story of infamous businessman and automaker John DeLorean, who is played by Lee Pace.

The movie is described as a "fast-paced, comedic crime thriller of a bromance gone wrong” between John DeLorean and FBI informant Jim Hoffman, who is fantastically played by Jason Sudeikis. The story of John Delorean is certainly an interesting and crazy one, and this movie actually looks really good!

Set in the early 1980s California, the story follows the meteoric rise of the golden boy of the automotive industry, John DeLorean (Pace) and his iconic DeLorean Motor Company (Dmc), through the eyes of his friendship with charming, ex-con pilot turned FBI informant, Jim Hoffman (Sudeikis). "You're moments away from being a very rich man." Universal has revealed the first official trailer for an indie drama titled Driven, a fictional telling of the tumultuous story of infamous businessman & automaker John DeLorean, played in this film by Lee Pace. This originally premiered at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals last fall, and arrives in a few theaters & VOD next month. Described as a "fast-paced, comedic crime thriller of a bromance gone wrong between John DeLorean, played by Lee Pace, and Jim Hoffman, played by Jason Sudeikis." The cast also includes Judy Greer, Isabel Arraiza, Corey Stoll, Justin Bartha, Michael Cudlitz, Tara Summers, and Iddo Goldberg. This isn't the only DeLorean film we've seen recently - there's the half-doc Framing John DeLorean starring Alec Baldwin as John. This one looks a bit better, though obviously more dramatic and wacky but still compelling and a lot of bit crazy.

Part of the fun of this final season of Elementary is pondering which way the series is going to turn.

While she had impulsely followed Sherlock to London on Elementary Season 6 Episode 21, now she wasn't so sure.

The powers that be figured Elementary Season 6 would be its last and so designed a melancholy ending.

When serial killer Michael Rowan, who had been stalking Sherlock, was found murdered, FBI Agent Malick liked Joan for the crime, since Michael had attacked Joan on Elementary Season 6 Episode 20.

The fact was that Hannah, Gregory's daughter, killed MIchael, who had murdered her roommate. Sherlock determined that the captain had covered up for her, but Joan wouldn't let Sherlock turn in Hannah.

Hey, "Elementary" fans. It's that time again for a brand new season 7! It's, of course, going to start off with the premiere episode 1, which we'll be going over right now. The Hard Problem, a new play by Arcadia playwright Tom Stoppard to be staged by his The Coast of Utophia director Jack O’Brien, will premiere next fall as a Lincoln Center Theater production.

Though major studios used to crank them out by the truckload, today the movie musical is a fairly infrequent occurrence — not just because they’re commercially risky but because the genre itself is an inherently ambitious undertaking. Ranging from “Once” to Damien Chazelle’s pre-“La La Land” romance “Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench,” there have been some moderately successful attempts at making indie musicals on a micro-budget, but the question still lingers of whether audiences are willing to accept a modern movie in which people sing out their emotions.

In a risky departure from a résumé otherwise dominated by broad comedy, Josh Klausner gives it a stab with “Wanderland.” Different though it may be from his 1999 debut “The 4th Floor” — a quasi-horror thriller with surreal touches — this oddball effort is more an exercise in low-key quirkiness set in a slightly alternative universe where everything but our protagonist is a little “off.

"Yet again, I give you my personal maxim: Everybody should be in therapy, always.

Okay, the always may be taking it a tad far, but seriously, if Will didn't prove my point on Madam Secretary Season 3 Episode 7, I don't know what would. His guilt was understandable. But carrying it around for at least 20 years? Yikes. 

Of course, he wasn't the only one that could have benefited from some time on the proverbial couch. Nadine's anxiety over meeting with Arabelle was interfering with her life in a way that was not healthy. At least Elizabeth was able to keep things together during the crisis du jour. 

The flashback and Will's subsequent revelation about keeping a secret from his big sister certainly did a lot to explain both his relationship with Elizabeth and his relationship with, well, everybody. Not that it took a genius to figure out that he had a hero complex and abandonment issues.

Aya Cash is not the kind of actress who’s desperate for awards attention.

When the “You’re the Worst” star says she’s just happy to be mentioned among the contenders, Cash uses the same statement to quickly shift focus to those other worthy women. She’s the kind of person who, mid-interview, will repeatedly ask if she’s doing okay. If she’s answering the questions properly. If she’s being a worthy contributor to the conversation.

And it’s not because she’s worried about how she’ll come across, but because she wants to genuinely help you, the interviewer, get whatever you want.

Here’s what we want: to see Cash win an Emmy for her monumental performance in “You’re the Worst” Season 2 — and plenty of other people do, too. The performance speaks for itself, and she’s letting it do just that, but such humility combined with a deep connection to the character makes Cash exactly the kind of person we should be heaping attention on, starting with an Emmy.

Not only was it a portrayal of groundbreaking significance — as Cash’s character, Gretchen, unflinchingly depicted the daily struggle of clinical depression — but the actress herself was fearless in attacking the darkest corners of her subject’s fragile psyche. Never before have we seen someone so beaten down by an unseen force — one that plagues so many of us on a daily basis —on TV, in a comedy, and the actress gave no credence to her own appearance or ego. IndieWire recently spoke with Cash, who has earned praise for depicting Gretchen with the same modesty and honesty she lives her life — humanizing herself, the character and the disease all at once.

When were your first presented with the idea of Gretchen being clinically depressed?

I got the first four scripts about two weeks before we started shooting, and I think I was on vacation. I remember reading them by a pool feeling semi-glamorous, you know? When does one get to read scripts for a TV show you’re on by a pool? And I got to the end of the fourth episode — when Gretchen is leaving in the middle of the night with no explanation — and I was like, “Well, you can’t do that to me!” That’s when I talked to Stephen about what was going on. He gave me a heads up of “This is what’s up. You’re crying in your car and this is why.”

Do you remember how much of that arc he gave to you ahead of time? How far down the rabbit hole she was going to go?

No, I didn’t know how far she was going to go. I didn’t know about the stalking episode with Justin Kirk and Tara Summers until I read it. I understood she was struggling with clinical depression and, even though there’s a spectrum on that, it’s a pretty serious issue and I knew that she was going to get dark. But I did joke with Stephen at one point: “So we’re doing a comedy and in every episode, she cries in her car?” I was like, “Wow, it’s going to be a lot.” But I loved it.

There’s a lot that goes into finding the truth and the authenticity in Gretchen while still staying true to the comedy format of the show.

I think it’s just as scary to be delivered a laugh-line as it is to be delivered lines that need emotional depth. They’re both terrifying. I’m not a naturally hilarious person. I’m not a storyteller. I’m not a joke-teller. I can barely remember jokes to save my life. I have decent comedic timing, and I have great writing.

It’s always intimidating when someone says — in the script — “I’m so sorry, I’m crying,” because you’re like, “Well fuck, I guess my decision is that I’m going to be crying in that moment.” And that can be intimidating, but you also can’t go in there and go, “I’m going to cry on this line,” because that would be fake. So I understand that it has to be emotional, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be, “And…cue the tears!”

[pause]

I feel like I haven’t done an interview in a couple months and I’m like, “Oh, what are these? What do I do?” You can just punch me up in any way you need. [laughs]

Perfect. It’s the ideal interview if I can just kind of make up the answers for you.

Great. “Dear Emmy Voters, Aya says she’s not very funny and not to vote for her for Best Comedy Actress.” [laughs]

It felt like this storyline opened things up a bit for Season 2; more (deserved) attention and there seemed to be a bit of a ground swell around the show in general.

I think Stephen and all the writers are really clued into something in the air. Like the amazing collective unconscious or something, because I feel like there’s a couple of shows that now have been talking about depression specifically in a very out way: “BoJack Horseman”; I think it was referenced in “Broad City.” There’s something in the air where it’s starting to come out, and we happened to be there at the beginning.

Was it daunting at all to be the face of that all of a sudden? I’m going to guess that you had to really engage with this conversation.

I felt a great responsibility and — I sound like such a ridiculous Miss America answer — but I felt honored to be a part of the conversation. It’s something that has hit very close to home for me and it’s really important to demystify because so many people struggle from depression of varying degrees.

I’m subject to that as well. I didn’t feel particularly brought down by the shooting of it, but I did actually have a very hard time, to be honest, when it aired; feeling sort of similar to how Gretchen was feeling. I had sort of a delayed reaction to it all and then felt I had to be sort of up for it when I actually myself felt down.

It’s just a big responsibility, and I felt so moved by people who reach out and said that they were struggling with depression and that it helped them. I was so excited that people, for the most part, seemed to be excited to see a fun, comedic character go through that and not be like, ‘Where’s my comedy? I wanted the sex and the fun. Where’s fun Gretchen?’ The truth is fun Gretchen is partly fun because of her depression. A lot her “fun” things that she does are self-medicating. So, it’s all tied together.

In Episode 7, “There’s Not Currently a Problem,” there was so much Gretchen had to go through — all in a moment. It was so vehement, I have to imagine that shooting that scene was pretty exhausting simply from a physical standpoint.

Yeah, I was actually very sick and they moved that shoot day a couple days so that I could at least be slightly coherent for it, which was so insanely lovely. I was a mess.

Don’t judge me for sounding like a pretentious asshole, but coming from “theáter,” [laughs] I actually really enjoy getting to roll into something, so I like a long take. It’s a lot of work and you have to make sure you’re really on top of it, but we’re pretty good about that anyway, so it’s really fun to take a five-page scene and be able to just go and rev up and try different things. We just played. Everyone else had to have stamina, too. I mean, watching me stutter for five pages takes some stamina.

Acting is so bizarre. I think the most important thing is to be there for someone else. Ultimately, if you’re there for someone else, you’ll make yourself look good, too, because you’ll be doing the right thing for what’s happening in the moment.

Three new cast members and two directors have been announced for the second season of the Mercy Street TV series on PBS. Joining the cast of the Civil War-era medical drama in the second season are Brían F. O’Byrne, Patina Miller, and Bryce Pinkham. Scandal's Stephen Cragg is directing episodes one and two of the second season. ER's Laura Innes is set to direct episodes three and four. Director of episodes five and six will be announced at a later date.

Mary Phinney might be meeting her match, in the next new episode of PBS’ “Mercy Street.” In this exclusive clip (above), Mary (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is confronted by fellow nurse Anne Hastings (Tara Summers), who’s not exactly happy with the arrival of the new head nurse and isn’t shy about expressing it. “Mercy Street” focuses on two volunteer nurses on opposing sides of the Civil War — New England abolitionist Phinney and Confederate supporter Emma Green, whose family’s luxury hotel in Alexandria, Virginia, has been converted into the Mansion House Union Army hospital. "You're the Worst" just concluded a terrific season, which went darker than I think anyone would have expected even last year, as the show dealt bluntly with Gretchen's battles with clinical depression. My review of the finale is here, and I have a lot of thoughts on the season as a whole from creator Stephen Falk coming up just as soon as I wear my booby shirt... I want to start off with a question about the biggest and most important story arc of season 2 — which is, of course, the “new phone who dis” running gag. At what point did you realize that was more than just a one-off, and you were just going to keep that as one of the weird through-lines to the season? Stephen Falk: We make it through our days by coming up with these little things. I do have sort of a lofty idea about the show in that,...

A review of tonight's "You're the Worst" coming up just as soon as I flash Gnarls Barkley after that Fiona Apple show... This has been a fall for TV episodes that open in a way that makes you wonder if your show accidentally got replaced with something else. The earthquake sequence at the start of "The Leftovers" season 2 and the movie outtakes from the "Fargo" premiere both seemed to come out of nowhere, serving as disorienting pathways into new seasons, even if they ultimately made thematic sense for both shows. "LCD Soundsystem" isn't quite as extreme a departure for "You're the Worst," in that Rob and Lexi literally live in the same neighborhood as Gretchen and Jimmy, and walk past Jimmy's house — and the mountain of empty liquor bottles in his recycling bins — within the episode's first few minutes. Still, the opening scenes almost make the episode feel like...

Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer and avoid You’re the Worst‘s Gretchen at all costs.

That’s a lesson that Justin Kirk (Tyrant) and Tara Summers (Ringer) will learn when they guest-star on Season 2 of the Fxx comedy this fall.

A legal drama, based on an Australian series of the same name, this show follows the comedic and chaotic life of a criminal defense lawyer. Keegan Deane (Greg Kinnear) is often described as many things but none of them are very flattering.

Brilliant and frustratingly charming, Keegan is one of life's great addicts. His staggering lack of discretion and inability to self-censor land him the cases that nobody else will touch. Behind that lies a resolute optimism and belief in justice that fuel his dogged determination to defend those who seem beyond redemption.

Fox has officially cancelled the Rake TV series. The news comes as no surprise and leaves the dark comedy with one episode unaired.

Rake follows a lawyer (Greg Kinnear) who tries to do good but just can't seem to get beyond his numerous addictions that cause him so much trouble. The cast also includes John Ortiz, Necar Zadegan, Bojana Novakovic, David Harbour, Tara Summers, Miranda Otto, and Ian Colletti.

The show got off to a poor start on Thursday, January 23rd, and the ratings dropped lower in subsequent weeks. After seven episodes, the network sent the series to Friday night where the ratings got much worse -- even by Friday night standards. Fox aired two more installments on a Saturday night and has yet to release the final episode.

A couple weeks ago, Fox shifted their low-rated Rake series to Friday nights. Now, the show is on the move again.

Rake follows a lawyer (Greg Kinnear) who tries to do good but just can't seem to get beyond his numerous addictions that cause him so much trouble. The cast also includes John Ortiz, Necar Zadegan, Bojana Novakovic, David Harbour, Tara Summers, Miranda Otto, and Ian Colletti.

The series is being replaced by Kitchen Nightmares as of this Friday night. A rerun of the Gordon Ramsay series will lead into the one-hour series finale of Raising Hope at 9pm. Season six of Nightmares kicks off on April 11th.

Back-to-back episodes of Rake will air on Saturday, April 5th, starting at 8pm. That will leave one episode unaired -- the sixth installment produced, titled "Mammophile." No word on when or if that will...

"Sopranos" star Michael Imperioli drops by Fox's "Rake" Thursday night (Feb. 20) for a guest role as one of rakish lawyer Keegan Deane's (Greg Kinnear) newest clients. Imperioli plays chef and restaurant owner Alberto Rinaldi, who is accused of bigamy and enlists Keegan's help in convincing the jury that loving his wives shouldn't be a crime.

Zap2it has an exclusive behind-the-scenes sneak peek of the episode, with Imperioli, costar Tara Summers -- a big "Sopranos" fan -- and the show's producers talking about how the hour came together. Imperioli's character has two separate families -- one in Santa Monica and one in Santa Barbara -- and must defend himself against criminal charges.

Plus, catch a quick clip from the episode as an exasperated Keegan exclaims, "Come on, stop marrying people!"

"Rake" airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on Fox.

Television largely gave Greg Kinnear his start, and as he returns to it, he's doing something different -- yet something he's been doing a long time.

Staking his claim to fame as a talk show host on NBC's "Later," then on E! Entertainment Television's satirical "Talk Soup" set Kinnear up for an acting career that began in earnest with the 1995 movie remake of "Sabrina." The new Fox comedy, Rake, is the next entry in the category of television shows remade from overseas efforts, and while it doesn’t come with all the same hurdles as most similar efforts, it has a tricky road ahead of it. The normal course would be to talk about the differences in comedic styles inherent in moving something across the pond, a problem Fox will soon face when it tries to “Americanize” the beloved, and wonderful, Gavin & Stacey with the upcoming Us & Them.
