Biography

    • Emilio Mejia was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and moved to Mexico City at age four after his family spent several years in Barbados. In high school, everything changed when Ana Liz Rivera, the original Maureen in the Spanish-language production of RENT, joined the school and began building its drama department. She cast him as P.T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman for the school's Winter Fest, sparking his passion for performance. That following January, he joined PROART, one of Mexico's top musical theatre programs founded by producer Gerardo Quiroz, and worked with Rivera to start the school's first drama club. He played Danny Zuko in Grease and was later cast as Max in All You Need Is Love, a PROART production inspired by Across the Universe, performing in both that summer. He made his on-screen debut in 2020 as a young Marc Anthony in Súbete a mi moto after being cast through a PROART-hosted audition. Emilio studied Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas at Austin with an emphasis in the Performer's Process, completing minors in Media Studies and Media & Entertainment Industries through the Radio-Television-Film department. While there, he built a wide-ranging body of work across theater, short film, and television, including a supporting role in Hail Mary, which premiered at SXSW, and a featured appearance on The CW's Walker. He also assistant-directed, collaborated across departments, and performed in both ensemble and lead roles, earning awards from the Austin Theatre Critics and a B. Iden Payne Award for Outstanding Lead Performer in a Theatre for Young Audiences production. His experience reflects range, adaptability, and a deep commitment to meaningful, dynamic storytelling.
