"Jujutsu Kaisen," one of the most popular current shonen action animes, is part of a recent trend of action shows with heavy horror vibes and influences. Based on the manga of the same name by Gege Akutami, the series takes place in a world where negative emotions create "cursed energy," a powerful energy source that births evil spirits called Curses. However, this universe is also home to Jujutsu Sorcerers, which are individuals who use the cursed energy within their own bodies to fight back against these Curses.
The show itself follows Yuji Itadori, a young man who joins a secret school to learn the ways of the Jujutsu Sorcerers after becoming the host of a powerful Curse named Sukuna. "Jujutsu Kaisen," which has already given rise a very successful prequel movie titled "Jujutsu Kaisen 0," is full of memorable characters (many of which suffer horrific deaths over the course of...

Several official manga translators of some of the most popular Shonen Jump titles have opened up about the unfair criticism and harassment they have witnessed over the years, as well as spoken about some of the issues plaguing the manga and translation industry at large.
Gizmodo interviewed several manga translators about the role's challenges, misconceptions and requirements, soliciting comments from those working on some of the biggest titles, including One Piece, Spy x Family and Undead Unluck. One of the biggest misconceptions was the pervasive idea that one translator, be it for anime, games or manga, is responsible for all decisions, some of which prove controversial or betray expectations. "Fans think it’s just like one shadowy person pulling the strings and making sure they don’t have a good time," David Evelyn said.

Jujutsu Kaisen is widely recognized as one of the most influential anime series of recent times, thanks to its excellent storytelling and memorable characters. Speaking of which, Gege Akutami created the most iconic character of the decade, Gojo Satoru, the face of the anime and the most powerful sorcerer. Gojo has become a phenomenon since the anime's release in 2020, with his graceful presence in the debut episode as well as his humorous demeanor, which kept fans entertained throughout the season. Even though Itadori Yuji is the series' protagonist, Gojo has always been given the spotlight, making him a fan favorite.
Certainly, one would expect an imposing protagonist like Gojo to live long enough to offer anime and manga fans a satisfying conclusion, but mangaka Gege Akutami has other intentions. During the final showdown between Gojo, the strongest sorcerer that has ever lived, and Sukuna, the king of curses, the latter emerges triumphant,...

Villains are a hot commodity in the anime community, with many of them being even more popular among fans than the protagonists are. Antagonists from series, such as Monster, Hunter x Hunter and Berserk stand out due to several factors, such as their complex characterization, intricate motivations or fascinating powers. In some series, the antagonists are very well-written and tend to override their protagonist counterparts, due to the lack of character dimension or bland ambition that holds some protagonists back.
Another reason people enjoy antagonists is because they are often relatable. Perhaps not in their actions, but the motivation behind them. Some of anime’s villains are seeking peace or justice, which are goals a lot of people support. Many antagonists are skilled and formidable combatants, who...

Zosia Mamet comes from a long lineage of folks making names for themselves in some capacity in the entertainment field. As one can probably tell from her last name, she's the daughter of playwright and screenwriter David Mamet, who's behind such works as "Glengarry Glen Ross" and the 1997 political satire "Wag the Dog." Mamet's mother, Lindsay Crouse, is an actor, while her grandfather on that side of the family is Russel Crouse, another playwright.
It almost seems like Mamet was destined for big things with that lineage, and she's certainly made a name for herself over the past decade of consistent work. From dramas to comedies (but mostly comedies), she's done it all, especially after breaking out with her role of Shoshanna Shapiro on "Girls."

Since he was a child, Dragon Ball's Son Goku has had one wish, to be the best fighter in the universe, but despite that, there are a handful of anime heroes who could destroy the Saiyan warrior. He's been fortunate in the fact that he's largely been able to fulfill his childhood dream. Having trained with and fought against the most impressive of Gods, warriors, and fighters, no one can deny he's in the conversation on who is the greatest anime fighter of all time. But all his accolades don't mean he can't be beaten.
As a lifelong warrior, with the thirst for fighting literally embedded in his DNA, finding a hero to defeat Goku is no easy task. However, with the breadth and diversity of characters found in anime, there are more than a few capable souls whose abilities can ultimately overcome whatever skills in battle Goku may possess.

Shonen anime is all about its heroes. Without their efforts to rise above the challenges that are thrown in their paths, many of the worlds they occupy would meet a brutal end. There are multiple factors in place that shape a hero's story, with many of the strongest among them having been subjected to childhood trauma and other factors that could have easily pushed them to the dark side.
Because these protagonists are usually a symbol of hope for their world, just the thought of them being on the opposite side of the battle between good and evil is terrifying to consider. Their often overpowered abilities could devastate entire worlds, reaffirming once and for all that it's a good thing they chose heroics over villainy.

Jujutsu Kaisen is immensely action-heavy with swift kicks and weapon mastery that makes the anime so enticing. From Nanami’s Black Flash to Gojo’s quick punches, Mappa and Gege Akutami really know how to showcase action sequences smoothly. What makes the anime even more convincing is how even their voice actors love martial arts just like their characters, particularly Adam McArthur, the English voice actor for the main protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji Itadori.

Via PR Times, the set pays tribute to a handful of iconic Jujutsu Kaisen characters, with the collection including glasses frames inspired by Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, Nobara Kugisaki, Satoru Gojo and Kento Nanami. Each Zoff frame evokes the general appearance of characters through colorways, but also their signature Cursed Techniques. Abilities such as Gojo's Infinity and Yuji's Black Flash Techniques are among the powers spotlit in their respective releases.

There is no doubt that Sasuke Uchiha is one of the most powerful shinobi of all time in the Naruto anime franchise. He has been Naruto Uzumaki's shonen-style rival and teammate, enemy, and frenemy all throughout the story, and whether Sasuke was friend or foe, he and Naruto always pushed each other to get stronger. Sure enough, by the end of Naruto Shippuden, Sasuke had amassed all kinds of power to compete with Naruto the jinchuriki.
Sasuke Uchiha already had a head start in his childhood, training to hone his immense natural talents to stay ahead of the curve as he grew up. Later, Sasuke awakened his Sharingan eyes and upgraded them to the Mangekyo Sharingan and Rinnesharingan, and he also wields jutsu like the Chidori and the summoning jutsu. Thus, Sasuke became one of the most powerful kind-of villains in all of Naruto, and there's no doubt that with his arsenal of jutsu,...

One of the "Big Three" anime, One Piece stars a cast of incredible fighters, including the blond chef, Sanji. Sanji was already impressive when Luffy first met him in the Baratie story arc, being a martial artist who emphasized rapid movements and kicks to take down his foes. Since then, Sanji has become much stronger thanks to his newfound use of Haki, the development of Diable Jambe, and even his latent genetic modifications awakening.
By now, Sanji can take on the strongest foes in One Piece's world alongside his fellow Straw Hats, but things might be different if Sanji paid a visit to other shonen realms. There, the kicking chef would meet his true equals, fighters who wield abilities beyond anything Sanji has seen with Devil Fruits and Haki. Season 2 of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime chronicles a critical episode from Satoru Gojo's youth in which his best friend Suguru Geto decides that the world would be better off without any non-sorcerers. During a joint interview with several members of Jujutsu Kaisen's cast and crew, director Shota Goshozono explained the reason for what he refers to as Geto's "fall into darkness."
In Jujutsu Kaisen, Geto is introduced as a talented sorcerer with purely noble ambitions. However, his resolve falters after an eye-opening incident involving two child sorcerers and a town driven mad with grief and anger. Per Oricon, Goshozono discusses how, for him, Geto's fall from grace is also related to the ongoing struggles within the larger jujutsu sorcerer community. "For [Gojo's Past arc], I had my own theme in mind: how to interpret the reasons for Geto's fall into darkness and his actions and incorporate them into the anime.

The official Jujutsu Kaisen English manga release by Viz Media continues to thrive, but not without controversy. An official English voice actor for the anime has joined the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom in condemning the mangas questionable translations for North American readers.
Adam McArthur, the American voice actor for Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen, posted a gif from the anime to express his confusion over the English translation of Chapter 267. Simply captioned "John Wery [sic]," McArthurs gif is an intentionally humorous scene from the anime where Yuji says, "I see. I dont get it," with a serious look on his face. John Werry is the credited translator of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga for Viz Media, who assumed the role from Stefan Koza following the latter's 10-year sentence for possessing child pornography. While the ousting of Koza was justified, many within the fandom have been critical of Werrys work on Jujutsu Kaisen and other series like One-Punch Man.

Kaiju No. 8 is an anime series that caught me off guard. Based on the manga by Naoya Matsumoto, on the surface, the series looks like a gritty tale where Kaiju cause mass destruction. All of those elements are there, but with that comes a lot of humor, a lot of heart, and a surprising amount of encouragement for anyone who’s over the age of 30. "We consumed anime and various forms of Kaiju media growing up, and so seeing these characters sort of mirroring our own selves helps bring in a little bit of that extra pizazz,” says Nazeeh Tarsha, the English voice actor for Kaiju No. 8 protagonist Kafka Hibino. Jujutsu Kaisen is well known for its strong female leads, but one Jujutsu sorcerer that stands out is the radiating Yuki Tsukumo. An accomplished anime cosplayer and artist has now used her own cosplay of Yuki as a photo reference for her amazing depiction of the character.
Faves, or Miss Faves on X (formerly Twitter), uploaded her artwork of Yuki from Jujutsu Kaisen on the social media website. Her artwork portrays the Special Grade Sorcerer in a similarly striking pose from the anime, where Yuki asks Aoi Todo, "What kind of girls do you like?" However, Faves didn't limit herself to official artwork from the Gege Akutami series to accurately draw Yuki -- she also used herself as a reference model.

Jujutsu Kaisen continues to leave its mark on pop culture worldwide. This time, the popular anime TV series has inspired a real-life international police force to recreate its most iconic anime opening theme song.

In every generation, there are manga authors who set a new standard for the medium and inspire younger creators to follow in their footsteps. An early example is the late Akira Toriyama, whose landmark Dragon Ball franchise laid the groundwork for the shonen "big three," including author Tite Kubo's Bleach. In turn, Mr. Kubo's legendary fantasy manga inspired and influenced plenty of manga artists in the next generation.
In some cases, manga artists have openly credited Bleach as a major source of inspiration, and in other cases, Bleach's influence is clear and being a part of the Big Three, even if the author hasn't directly acknowledged it. Fans can infer that Bleach's premise of sword-wielding monster hunters has had a serious impact on nearly every shonen series out there, mostly shonen action stories that are bound to appeal to Bleach fans.

Shonen anime aren’t typically known for romance, but that doesn’t mean they are devoid of it. Some of the most romantic anime scenes happen in shonen anime. There are many heart-pounding scenes to choose from, but there are some shonen scenes that epitomize the idea of love. Anime is no stranger to love. Love can be found in practically every type of anime.
However, romance scenes in shonen shows are particularly great since they display the typically action-oriented characters in a new light. Even if the shonen anime is a romance, the out-and-out romantic moments tend to be particularly tender. The best romantic shonen scenes let their characters be vulnerable and sincere with each other. This helps the couples to seem all the sweeter to audiences who already love them.

Anime is no stranger to powerful fighters, and since it became an international phenomenon in the late 20th century, countless characters within the medium have pushed the boundaries of their strength. However, as strong as these characters are, very few of them have been able to forgo their mortal bindings and obtain the most sought-after power of all: immortality.
While some anime characters are inherently immortal, others obtain this trait for themselves. These characters often represent the peak of their respective series, making them some of the strongest — and most durable — fighters in the anime medium.

Hip-hop artist Megan Thee Stallion prepared for the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards by transforming herself into Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen.
Stallion announced her arrival in Japan on Instagram by cosplaying as the fan-favorite Jujutsu Sorcerer. "We made it to Japan," Stallion said while wearing her chic rendition of Gojo's uniform. Stallion's costume is reminiscent of Gojo's dark blue zip-up jacket but stitched in leather with the midriff exposed. Her long, dark-colored hair is dyed white, and just like the Jujutsu instructor himself, Stallion is seen covering her eyes with a blindfold or, in other images, a pair of fashionable glasses.
