Ed Sheeran looks back on Game of Thrones cameo backlash: "People hated me anyway"
Image
In 2017, musician Ed Sheeran appeared in an episode of Game of Thrones. It was the episode "Stormborn" from season 7. Arya Stark was riding towards King's Landing, on her way to kill Cersei Lannister. She stops to visit with a group of friendly Lannister soldiers, none of whom are fans of the city. One of them is played by Ed Sheeran, who we hear off-camera singing a song:

Honestly, I always liked this scene. It humanizes the everyday soldiers on the ground, making us think twice about automatically associating Lannisters with evil and greed; these guys aren't high-born, they're just peasants hired by the Lannisters to fight in a war they likely won't benefit from. But at the time, the scene got a lot of attention because Ed Sheeran was in it. There was some snarky chatter online that he was too distracting.

Vanity Fair asked Sheeran about the cameo recently...

Coldplay Drummer Will Champion on That Time the Flaming Lips Blew His Band’s Mind
Image
On a glowering November morning — sky bruising, wind whipping, rain threatening — Coldplay’s Will Champion shows up at Sydney’s Coogee Beach as a perfect counterpoint to the weather. The drummer is sunny and solicitous under his trucker hat, strolling along the famous path toward Bondi with a gentleness and courtesy (“Oh no, after you!” “Do you need a hand?”) one might not entirely expect of a man who hits things for a living. The night before, toward the end of Coldplay’s fourth Music of the Spheres show at Sydney’s Accor Stadium,...

Coldplay Bassist Guy Berryman: ‘What We Have Is Unbelievably Special’
Image
In the 28 years since the members of Coldplay met in their first-year dorm at University College London, each has, according to the band’s lore, played a certain role: Chris Martin is the creative genius, drummer Will Champion the voice of reason, guitarist Jonny Buckland the moral center, and bassist Guy Berryman the arbiter of cool. “Any coolness that Coldplay have at all comes from Guy,” confirms band manager Phil Harvey. “He’s a cool dude.”

From afar, Berryman certainly appears that way — his eyes downcast, his dark hair mussed,...

What Did Chris Martin Say About His Bond With Dakota Johnson? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Despite ongoing breakup rumors, Chris Martin revealed that Dakota Johnson is his partner and one of his closest friends. In a candid new interview, he offered a glimpse into their unshakable bond, proudly including her in his inner circle of “best friends.” The Coldplay star mentioned Dakota Johnson, Phil Harvey, Will Champion, Guy Berryman, and his children as some of the most important people in his life.

Chris Martin Didn’t Want To Discuss His Relationship With Dakota Johnson

Martin and Johnson were first romantically linked in the fall of 2017 and made their public debut as a couple at Stella McCartney’s Autumn 2018 Collection event in January 2018.

According to Rolling Stone, the Hymn for the Weekend singer preferred not to discuss his relationship with Johnson, feeling that it was not his story to tell. However, he...

How Coldplay Became Bigger, Happier, and More ‘Coldplay’ Than Ever
Image
The night sky over New Zealand is wide and wondrous, inky and vast. It’s the type of sky that broadcasts Earth’s infinitesimal place in the infinite cosmos. The type of sky that fills one with awe at the beauty and mystery of existence. The type that brings to mind how, from some vantage point in some far-off pocket of space, human difference simply disappears and we all appear as one, floating in harmony on our beautiful blue and green marble.

And so it is fitting that one night in mid-November,...

David Bowie Brutally Turned Down A Coldplay Collaboration On Their 6.8 Million Selling Masterpiece - "It's Not A Very Good Song, Is It?"
Image
The dream team of David Bowie and Coldplay was clearly just not meant to be. Bowie is no stranger to collaborations, nor has he been afraid to join forces with superstar musicians. Quite willing to public hate his own songs, the Thin White Duke also cultivated a reputation for openly criticizing other musicians, no matter what their profile or track record.

Elton John and the once Ziggie Stardust had started out as friends, but their closeness eroded in the 1970s when Bowie referred to John as “The token queen of rock and roll” in an interview. He also had choice words for Paul McCartney, and Gary Numan, and infamously came to blows with Axl Rose (at least according to Slash's autobiography). And that openness with his criticism translated to an unwillingness to collaborate with some of rock's most prominent figures.

Not only did Bowie turn down a crossover with Red Hot Chilli Peppers,...

Coldplay Mocked Mercilessly By Fans For Live QVC Performance To Promote New Album: ‘So Unserious!’
Image
Coldplay’s promotional appearance on QVC’s home shopping channel has sparked widespread criticism across social media. The band performed tracks from their 10th album, Moon Music, leading to a wave of mockery on X (formerly Twitter), where users expressed ridicule over the unconventional promotional approach.

“Holy s—,” an X user wrote, “that QVC broadcast with Coldplay shows everything wrong with capitalist consumerism.”

Another questioned the band’s decision, tweeting, “Now why the f— is Coldplay performing live on QVC?!”

Some fans were even shocked by the band’s shift in promotional style. “Coldplay selling their album live on QVC in America is utterly bizarre stuff; they are so unserious…” one user posted.

However, only some were critical. Several fans appreciated the unique strategy. One fan commented, “That was one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen,...

Moreover, from a financial standpoint, the decision doesn’t sound too out of the blue, given the members’ net worth. Interestingly, the difference between Martin’s and other’s earnings is much closer than one might expect.

Coldplay Confirm They Will Retire After Their 12th Album
Image
Coldplay’s Chris Martin has been teasing the imminent end of the band since 2021, but now he’s confirmed exactly when the British group will retire: following the release of their 12th album.

In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Martin discussed the band’s trajectory as they gear up to release their upcoming 10th album, Moon Music. “We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real. Yeah, I promise,” Martin told Lowe. “Because less is more and for some of our critics, even less would be even more! It’s really important that we have that limit.”

While 12 may seem like an arbitrary number of albums for a band to call it quits at, Martin sees it more as a way of emulating the greats. “There’s only seven Harry Potters. There’s only 12 and a half Beatles albums, there...

Coldplay’s Ex-Manager, Dave Holmes, Sues Band For $12 Million, Band Countersues Alleging Double Dealing
Image
Dave Holmes, the ex-manager of the British rock band Coldplay, has sued the band for £10 million ($12.3 million) he believes he is contractually owed for two unreleased Coldplay albums.

Holmes left as Coldplay’s band manager in August 2022 after working with them for 22 years.

The band is currently being managed by Phil Harvey, Mandi Frost and Arlene Moon, who have worked with Holmes and the band previously.

Holmes filed a claim to the High Court of Justice, alleging that the band had backed out on a promised contract for their tenth and eleventh albums. It was agreed in the contract that the manager would be paid a commission.

Additionally, Holmes declared that the band had attempted to demote him from manager to head of touring.

In response, the band members, Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion, filed a counterclaim in the High Court, which declared that Holmes had...

Jones and Coldplay formed a circle with drummer Will Champion playing in a box. They were arranged a bit like Elvis Presley and his bandmates in the stripped-down section of the ’68 Comeback Special.

The Final Two Seasons Of Game Of Thrones Will “Break Boundaries,” According To Kit Harington; Ed Sheeran Cameo Confirmed
Don’t be fooled into thinking that HBO plans to quietly wind down Game of Thrones just because of the reduced episode count; if anything, the final, truncated two seasons will give showrunners the ability to “break boundaries” through the use of cutting-edge CGI and new camera techniques.

That’s according to Kit Harington, whose Jon Snow quite literally received a new lease of life in Game of Thrones season 6. Now appointed King of the North, Harington has spoke at length about the monumental encounters that await in this year’s seventh season, and during a recent interview with the Huffington Post (via Comic Book), the actor touched base on the scale and scope of Game of Thrones season 7, and why it’s shaping up to be the biggest yet – even if it’s technically the shortest.

Coldplay Shares Heartwarming Memory of the Time David Bowie Refused to Collaborate With Them and Insulted Their Music
Coldplay, Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jon Buckland, and Will Champion
In the week since David Bowie's death, many artists and entertainers have come forward to share their memories of the late rock icon. But none have been as darkly humorous as the story from Coldplay's Jonny Buckland and Will Champion, who told NME that Bowie once turned down a chance to collaborate with the band, with a brutally honest assessment. The story goes like this: Coldplay once wrote a song with a "Bowie-type character," and Chris Martin sent the former Thin White Duke a letter asking him if he wanted to lend his voice to the track. Bowie's cutting response: "It's not a very good song, is it?" As Champion marveled, "He was very discerning — he wouldn't just put his name to anything. I'll give him credit for that." And you thought that Extras scene was fiction.

Game Of Thrones: 10 Actors With Off-Screen Music Careers
HBO

Like all classic dramas, Game of Thrones comes with a booming soundtrack fit for a king. The opening sequence is as epic as the events which take place after it, and it’s mostly down to the rousing strings and hammering drums bellowing from behind the graphics.

Music is a big part of the Seven Kingdoms, with much of the world’s history remembered through song, with ominous snippets of The Rains Of Castamere being forever remembered for building up to the mega Red Wedding. Since then, that song has foreshadowed many deaths, violent encounters, and all-out slaughters.

One of the musicians during that infamous scene was Coldplay drummer Will Champion, and another famous cameo was Sigur Ros playing at Joffrey’s wedding, much to the dismay of the vicious young king, but the writers don’t even need to draft in musical talent, because they already have it within their ranks.

Game Of Thrones: The Musical Coming for Red Nose Day
Red Nose Day, a comedy special that’s been in the U.K. since the late 1980s, and this year it will be coming to the U.S. for a primetime special on NBC airing on Thursday, May 21st at 8pm Est. Judging by the press release, it will feature every popular entertainer alive. Among them will be the Game of Thrones cast, who will be putting together Game of Thrones: The Musical with the help of Coldplay. This puts people in a difficult position: Will their love of Game of Thrones outweigh their hatred for Coldplay? Personally, I just hope it’s funny, and a Game of Thrones musical has the potential to be really good or fall flat. For example, here’s Peter Dinklage using all of his charisma to get laughs from a song about characters who have died on the show thus far: So….yeah.

The video below is just a teaser — the full version is expected to include every character Got has ever killed off, and will be 17 hours long.

Game of Thrones (2011)
Tyrion Lannister is “still going strong.” That was the main takeaway from a new teaser for “Game of Thrones: The Musical,” a special performance by Coldplay featuring Peter Dinklage that will be part of NBC’s “Red Nose Day” event to raise money for children living in poverty. In the teaser, Dinklage rocks the mic as he reminds us of the characters that have died while Tyrion keeps right on playing the “Game of Thrones.” “Remember Ned Stark? He was a lot of fun/But he didn’t make it past season one,” Dinklage sings. See photos: 13 of Hollywood's...
