The Chaplin twins were known for dressing identically and speaking in unison.

Vr Still Lacks Its ‘Jazz Singer,’ a Game-Changing Breakthrough — Sundance
Editor’s note: Kim Voynar and Nathaniel Luke Pinzon are co-founders of Xr content and consulting studio WonderTek Labs, and are co-producers on Lena Herzog’s 2019 New Frontier selection “Last Whispers.”

Sundance Film Festival began featuring Vr content at its New Frontier section in 2012, but the first wave of Vr development began when cinematographer Morton Heilig filed his 1962 patent for the Sensorama. It gave viewers the passive experiences of riding a bike, a helicopter, or a go-kart, with full-color 3D video, stereo sound, haptic vibrations, scent, and wind effects.

A half century later, his technology’s promise is still waiting to be fulfilled. Head curator Shari Frilot always intended New Frontier to disarm and disrupt, and on that count the 2019 lineup ably delivered. However, if the Vr industry is still yearning for its version of “The Jazz Singer” — the project that could catapult a once-fringe technology into a world-changing sensation — that was not on display.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans Blu-ray Review
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans Directed by: Werner Herzog Written by: Willam M. Finkelstein Starring: Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Shawn Hatosy, Irma P. Hall, Val Kilmer, Xzibit There was a lot of confusion when it was first announced that Werner Herzog would be directing a remake of the 1992 film Bad Lieutenant starring Harvey Keitel, and even more confusion when a trailer finally surfaced online last year. As it turns out, the movie is not a remake of Abel Ferrara's original at all, and shares little more than a title and the same general premise. But if it isn't a remake and it isn't a sequel, the question remains... what exactly is it? Somehow the folks at Millennium Films (Rambo, Brooklyn's Finest) managed to scoop up the rights to the original, and thought that it might make a good starting point for a franchise. Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans...

Blu-Ray Review: Nicolas Cage Rocks ‘Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans’
Chicago – 2010 is clearly the year of New Orleans with a Saints Superbowl victory, HBO’s highly acclaimed “Treme” debuting this Sunday and the highly underrated and somewhat excellent “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans,” starring Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes, debuting on Blu-ray and DVD tomorrow, April 6th, 2010.

Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0

Expertly directed by one of the best living filmmakers, Werner Herzog (“Grizzly Man,” “Rescue Dawn”), this bizarre remake/spin-off of the Abel Ferrara/Harvey Keitel drama defies all expectations that rebooting a film that didn’t really demand a reboot was a really bad idea. When most of us heard that Nicolas Cage was doing another remake (after the disastrous “The Wicker Man”) and given his recent track record, we approached Herzog’s “Bad Lieutenant” with a raised eyebrow.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on April 6th, 2010.

Insert Caption: Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game that, on a good day, is as bad as a corrupt, drug-addicted lieutenant from New Orleans. Oh, you don't wanna know what it's like on a bad day. Last week we asked you to torture us with captions for a photo from the latest Saw installment, Saw VI (in theaters now). Over 300 folks came out for this one, but unfortunately only three survived our evil, sadistic tests.

1. "Introducing ABC's new fall game show- "Extreme Simon Says" -- Shannon T.

2. "Hang out with Jigsaw, they said." -- Jordan K.

3. "Jerry seemed very upset when someone showed up to his Halloween party after having copied his marionette costume idea exactly." -- Abigail M.
