Among all the dystopic versions of the world that we are presented with, a zombie apocalypse is the most gory, violent, and threatening version. With the world rapidly declining into a spiral of rise in population, shrinking food sources, and a looming climate crisis, human transformation into inhuman creatures is not too far from reality. The rationale of zombies is to turn every prey into a predator by spreading the infection– it is almost like the symbolic snake eating its tail. The food source that they get infected from is a fish liver, and it infuses them with a lethal fish gene that unleashes a flesh-ripping aggression from their core. Ziam is an action-packed zombie flick, but it also touches the deeper core of human existence in the face of the climate crisis, and industrialization of the limited resources available to humanity.

Is Bowen Yang ready to go full drag? For the right project, it may be very possible. Speaking to IndieWire at the red carpet premiere of his latest film, “The Wedding Banquet,” Yang shared that despite only recently taking part in a remake of a classic film, he’d be down to do so again if it were material he really couldn’t pass up.
“I would love to remake ‘Female Trouble,'” Yang said, highlighting John Waters’ beloved 1974 dark comedy. “I don’t know who would play Divine or who would play Dawn Davenport.”
At the same time, Yang doesn’t believe everything has to get remade. In fact, he would prefer if more effort went into honoring and cherishing the original material than trying to reinvent it.
“I think that’s why things like the Criterion Collection are good at preserving these things that need to be preserved...

The shonen genre is no stranger to anime series with a large cast of characters, but even by its standards, One Piece features an impressively large roster. Since debuting in 1999, Eiichiro Oda's legendary series has introduced hundreds of pirates, Marines, and adventurers to shonen fans, including many female characters who have more than left their mark on the Grand Line.
While there's no denying that One Piece, like many other popular shonen series, stars a male-heavy cast, it still features plenty of strong women who are capable fighters in their own right. In fact, some of these women are among the most influential figures that the Straw Hat Pirates have encountered in the Grand Line.

The 1970s were truly a thrilling time for movies. Theaters offered something for everyone, ranging all the way from acclaimed dramas like The Godfather and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest to pop culture phenomenons like Star Wars and Jaws. Filmmakers were using new techniques and presenting new ideas, paving the way for a new generation of cinema pioneers. This revolution in the art of filmmaking allowed for the creation of numerous films that are currently hailed as some of the best of all time.
Of course, this exciting rush brought along its fair share of rather unusual ideas as well. Many filmmakers were venturing into uncharted territory, making movies about unique ideas that had never been put on screen before. Some of these "weird" concepts ended up setting the foundation for hugely successful films. Others, sadly, did not receive quite as much praise. Regardless of their level of success,...

An old adage reminds us that “character is what you do when no one is watching.” Steve Buscemi, the acclaimed actor, exemplified this maxim on September 11, 2001, when he reported to Ground Zero and worked with his old unit, Engine Company 55, in Manhattan. Without fanfare, press conferences, or public declarations, Buscemi worked alongside other firefighters in the aftermath of the attacks. It was only later, through chance encounters and quiet disclosures, that the public learned of his selfless actions that day. And so, it’s fitting that Buscemi, a man of character, is best known for his work as a character actor – bringing depth, nuance, and complexity to the roles he’s played on screen, just as he brought courage, compassion, and humility to his work on and after that fateful day.
But how was that courage formed? To know that, we must return to where the beginning began, when he was born On His Birthday,...

When done well, found footage horror makes for one of the most immersive and unnerving viewing experiences. The inherent naturalism tends to make the horror feel more plausible and real. Found footage horror doesn’t need a huge budget or recognizable names among the cast to induce chills, either, and the lo-fi visuals only further add to the scares.
This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to found footage horror movies that excel with the format, delivering unsettling atmosphere and scares while making the most of their immersive, lo-fi aesthetics. Here’s where you can stream them this week.

Eiichiro Oda's One Piece is rightfully considered one of the best shonen adventures in history. Ongoing for over 25 years, Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates' journey through the series' expansive seafaring world in search of the legendary treasure continues to captivate fans, both new and old, just as much as it did decades ago. With the series now firmly in its Final Saga, the conclusion to Oda's massive epic is finally in sight, which makes the age-old debate between two opposing sides of the One Piece fanbase — the manga readers and the anime watchers — more relevant than ever before.
The original manga is commonly considered the superior version of One Piece. Crafted just as Oda has intended, it doesn't suffer from the same problems many find in the anime, like subpar animation, dragged-out pacing and overabundance of filler. While there are plenty of moments in the anime that...

One Piece is among the longest-running franchises in anime history. In the series, pirates are hunted down by members of the World Government and their Marines. However, some pirates are too tough for the government or its soldiers to handle on their own, so in response, they will issue a bounty for the capture — or death — of a particularly powerful pirate.
There are several characters whose bounties are still unknown, but since One Piece has been running for so long, most of its important characters have published wanted levels. While these totals don't necessarily represent the strength of the pirate they're assigned to, they do denote just how dangerous they are in the eyes of the World Government.
Updated on March 1, 2024, by Ajay Aravind: The most dangerous pirates usually get the highest bounties, but that isn't always true. At the same time, the bounty value does offer an idea as to the respective pirate's accomplishments.

CAA has signed Hana Kuma, the media and production company founded by tennis star Naomi Osaka and her longtime agent and business partner Stuart Duguid, for representation, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Greta Gerwig is revealing that Barbie star Ryan Gosling had a peculiar idea for his “I’m Just Ken” musical number that would have him feuding with his mink coat.
While making an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the director of Barbie described the scene that Gosling had in mind.
“One of the ideas that Ryan had was that he would have a dance duet with his mink and that the mink would be fighting him, and then love him, and then fight him again, eventually defeat him, and that he would be birthed anew out of the mink,” Gerwig told the CBS late-night show host.
Gerwig said that “somewhere there’s a rehearsal footage of this” and that it’s “in the vault.”

Horror and overall scary movies never go out of fashion. There are new stories being released almost every month of the year, especially during the spooky season. Because of this, there are so many new productions that sometimes, a lesser-known one can fall between the cracks, and many don’t get to appreciate a good bone-chilling story. This was the case in the Thai movie The Medium.
The movie had some buzz when it came out, as the movie premiered at Bucheon Fantastical International Film Festival and won The Best of Bucheon prize. However, it is still unfamiliar to a lot of people. With a high score on Rotten Tomatoes from both critics and audiences, The Medium is a haunting and refreshing take on exorcisms and found-footage movies. Here is why you should add this movie to your Halloween watch list — and it might make you want to dive deeper into international horror films.

Feature number three for the Coen Brothers is an eccentric gangster saga with a wonderful slate of mugs — Gabriel Byrne, John Turturro, Albert Finney, Jon Polito, J.E. Freeman, Steve Buscemi — slinging highly entertaining hardboiled dialogue. The witty, insightful story is at heart not a comedy, and the direction impresses in the formal sense — no superfluous camera acrobatics this time. Barry Sonnenfeld’s visual stick in the mind — the Byrne-Turturro execution scene in the woods is one of the highlights of 1990s filmmaking.
