With Just For Laughs Montreal now behind us, Jfl has announced the first round of headliners for its Toronto Festival, taking place from September 18-27.

Notable comics set to appear include Gabriel Iglesias, Maria Bamford, Al Madrigal, Big Jay Oakerson, Ron Funches, Todd Barry, Ian Fidance, Gina Yashere, and Hari Kondabolu, among others.

George Lopez starred in the multi-cam comedy with his daughter, Mayan Lopez, along with cast members Selenis Leyva, Brice Gonzalez, Matt Shively, and Al Madrigal.

Debby Wolfe co-created the series with the Lopezes and served as executive producer along with George Lopez, Bruce Helford, Michael Rotenberg, and Katie Newman. Lesley Wake Webster, Marcos Luevanos, Keith Heisler, and Dan Signer were co-executive producers, while Mayan Lopez and Marc Solakian were producers and Erica Harrell and Desiree Proctor were co-producers.

George Lopez is retiring from stand-up comedy.

Announcing the news while interviewing on “Tamron Hall,” Lopez, 63, said he’d be done with his stage career officially after his upcoming special drops on Amazon’s Prime Video.

“It is the last one,” Lopez said. “I’ve subjected the American people to enough of my crap. It seems like the right time. It’s been the one thing that has just never left me my whole life and, in respect to it, it’s a wonderful place to leave it at this particular point.”

Lopez’s final one-hour special was shot at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on Sept. 27 and 28 as part of his “Alllriiiighhttt! Comedy” tour. It will be his first special in four years, since 2020’s “We’ll Do It for Half” on Netflix.

Exclusive: George Lopez is planning to move on from the stand-up stage.

Lopez revealed that he will be retiring from stand-up comedy after the release of his upcoming special on Amazon’s Prime Video.

Speaking to Tamron Hall on her syndicated talk show, Lopez said, “It is the last one. I’ve subjected the American people to enough of my crap. It seems like the right time; it’s been the one thing that has just never left me my whole life and it’s a wonderful place to leave it at this particular point.”

Lopez added that he wanted to spend more time with his daughter Mayan Lopez, who he stars alongside in NBC comedy Lopez vs Lopez, which is heading into its third season. “I love the show,” he added.

It comes after Deadline revealed that Lopez filmed a new one-hour special as part of his “Alllriiiighhttt! Comedy” tour.

Writer-director Mike Young’s action-comedy feature Stealing Jokes is set for release next month from Freestyle Digital Media.

The company, which is the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has acquired the movie and will release it via digital platforms and DVD on Nov. 1. The ensemble cast includes Jeff Dye (The Wedding Year), Dustin Ybarra (Easter Sunday), HaHa Davis (Domino: Battle of the Bones), Michael Rapaport (Beautiful Girls), Luke Null (Saturday Night Live), Ryu Go Eun (Everything’s Trash), Al Madrigal (Night School) and Michael Manasseri (Weird Science).

Stealing Jokes centers on a comedian and his friends who, after setting out on a comedy tour, get bilked out of their promised fees on the first night. Vicki Lawrence, Francia Raisa, Rizwan Manji, Annie Gonzalez, and Adam Irigoyen will all appear in the upcoming third season of the NBC comedy, which premieres on October 8.

Comedian Mitch Hedberg is set to be the focus of a forthcoming documentary, nearly two decades after his death.

Director Jeff Siegel, who is nominated for a 2024 Emmy, is helming the feature that has wrapped principal photography after a filming process that began five years ago. The project, which is currently untitled and does not yet have a planned release date, is set to include archival footage, home movies and interviews with loved ones, childhood friends and fellow comics.

The filmmakers have conducted more than 100 interviews across the country for the film. Among those offering perspective on Hedberg’s life and career are Lewis Black, Jim Gaffigan, B.J. Morbius is infamous for underperforming upon release in 2022. Not only did the movie come up short at the box office, it was pummeled by the critics, garnering a 15% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

In a new conversation with Deadline, Morbius director Daniel Espinosa commented on directing the movie. He now says he realizes he wasn't a good "fit" for that project, as he's someone who tries to bring a lot of ideas to the projects he works on.
