Sony Offered 'Morbius' Directing Job to 'Eddington' Director Ari Aster
Image
Once upon a time, not so long ago, Sony Pictures attempted to create a cinematic universe based on Spider-Man, without the web-slinger himself. It went as well as Marvel fans expected, with Morbiusquickly becoming one of the most infamous (and worst) superhero movies of all time. If it wasn't already clear that the studio has in over its head with the idea, they tried to hire one of the most unique filmmakers working today to helm the box office flop.

While on the Mixed Signals podcast, Eddington director Ari Aster revealed that Sony approached him years ago to helm Morbius, which starred Jared Leto. Aster kept things brief and didn't divulge any details, but it is safe to say that the conversations with Sony probably did not get very far. Despite featuring a Spider-Man character and some star talent, Morbius proved to be a disaster for the studio, one that...

Lopez vs Lopez: Cancelled; No Season Four for NBC Family Sitcom
Viewers have seen the last of the fictional version of the Lopez family. NBC has cancelled Lopez vs Lopez so that it won't return for a fourth season. The show's third season of 13 episodes finished airing in February.

A family comedy series, the Lopez vs Lopez TV show stars George Lopez, Mayan Lopez, Selenis Leyva, Brice Gonzalez, Al Madrigal, and Matt Shively. The story revolves around a generational conflict between a partially estranged father and daughter -- working-class, old-school George (George Lopez) and his Gen Z daughter, Maya (Mayan Lopez). George was largely an absent father, and he also cheated on Maya's mother (Leyva) and gambled a lot. Now, Maya has been through years of therapy, and George has gone through a tough time. Now that he's moved in with Maya and her family, the two have a...

Say Goodbye to Another TV Family as NBC Cancels Fan-Favorite Sitcom After 3 Seasons
Image
George Lopez’s latest sitcom, Lopez vs. Lopez, will not be getting a fourth season. The fan-favorite show was canceled at NBC, per Deadline, and is the latest sitcom to get the axe this year. ABC’s The Connersalso ended its run this spring.

The news of Lopez vs. Lopez’s cancelation came at NBC’s network upfronts, which also included an announcement that Night Court is also not being renewed. Both shows had been on the “bubble” at the network. The sitcom, starring George Lopez, Mayan Lopez, Matt Shively, Bruce Gonzalez, Selenis Leyva, and Al Madrigal had the distinction of being one of the first network comedies that featured a Latino family as a dysfunctional one, a-la Roseanne.

The similarities between Roseanne, The Conners, and Lopez vs. Lopez were likely not coincidental, as Bruce Helford, who helmed the two classic sitcoms, also served as an executive producer on Lopez vs.

'Lopez vs. Lopez' Has Its Fate Decided by NBC After Three Seasons
Image
NBC previously picked up its two freshman comedy series, St. Denis Medical and Happy's Place, for second seasons, but we now know that the Lopez family won't be joining them. The network has announced that George Lopez and Mayan Lopez's family sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez has been cancelled after three seasons. The news comes a full two months after the Season 3 finale, which welcomed the elder Lopez's nemesis Mario Lopez in a guest-starring role as George's fitness-obsessed attorney cousin Vinny. With Night Court also being cancelled, this leaves Happy's Place as the only multi-camera sitcom left standing at the network.

Premiering in 2022, Lopez vs. Lopez brought George back to television on NBC after he had previously become a sitcom darling across six seasons on ABC with George Lopez. For the spiritual successor, he and Mayan Lopez brought their father-daughter dynamic to the small screen, playing a heightened George and Mayan,...

‘Lopez vs. Lopez’ and ’Night Court’ Canceled After Three Seasons Apiece at NBC
Image
NBC has canceled Lopez vs. Lopez and Night Court after three seasons apiece. The cancellations come on the final business day before NBC’s upfront — when networks pitch advertisers on their coming slates — on Monday.

Night Court aired its third season finale, which will now serve as a series ender, on Tuesday — although sources say Warner Bros. TV, which produces the show with Universal TV, may try to find a new home for the series.

This Night Court stars Melissa Rauch (who also executive produces) as Abby Stone, a judge in Manhattan’s often chaotic night court and the daughter of Harry Stone, the lead character in the original 1984-92 series (who was played by the late Harry Anderson). John Larroquette reprised his role from the original series as attorney Dan Fielding; the season three cast also includes Lacretta, Nyambi Nyambi and Wendie Malick. Marsha Warfield made several appearances as Roz,...

‘Night Court,’ ‘Lopez vs. Lopez’ Canceled After 3 Seasons at NBC
Image
It’s the end of the road for the “Night Court” reboot and “Lopez vs. Lopez” at NBC.

NBC opted not to renew the Melissa Rauch-led sitcom or the George and Mayan Lopez comedy series for a fourth season, TheWrap has learned. The news comes just days after “Night Court” aired its Season 3 finale, which left off on a cliffhanger surrounding the romantic life of judge Abby Stone (Rauch). “Lopez vs. Lopez” wrapped its run in February.

The cuts come ahead of NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday, with the network having to make tough decisions to make room for NBA programming starting this fall.

While “Night Court” won’t return to NBC, Warner Bros. TV, which produces the show, is hoping to find a new home for series, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.

Following in the footsteps of the original “Night Court” sitcom, which ran from 1984 to 1992, the reboot series follows Abby,...

Sony’s Morbius brought a dark side to the Marvel Universe, bringing a unique twist to the superhero genre. While the movie was a critical and commercial failure, a sequel seemed inevitable. Released in 2022, Morbius earned $73 million domestically against a $75 million budget. As critics blamed its outdated plot, lackluster special effects, and disjointed story, some fans were impressed by the movie, giving it a 71% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite this, Sony hasn’t entirely dismissed the possibility of Morbius 2. Given the post-credits scene that connects to the Venom universe, it highlights that Sony might have some plans for its broader Marvel slate. However, there are no concrete updates.

Is Morbius 2 Happening?

After Morbius’ poor performance, the likelihood of a second chapter is highly doubtful. But there’s still a chance that Morbius 2 can happen...

Jared Harris Took ‘Morbius’ Role Because He Has “A Mortgage To Pay”
Image
Jarred Harris is sharing an honest perspective on his Marvel debut.

The Golden Globe nominee explained that he keeps a “sense of humour” about his role in Sony‘s Morbius (2022), chalking up his appearance in the maligned Spider-Verse spin-off to a paycheck during a recent interview.

“I have got a mortgage to pay, you know,” he told British outlet i News. “Sometimes you say yes to things because you need to make money.”

Harris explained, “I have observed that those types of films do well if you have a sense of humour. You can’t treat it as though it’s Shakespeare. So yeah, that movie could have done with a more mischievous sense of humour.”

The actor appeared in Morbius as Dr. Emil Nicholas, a mentor and father figure to Dr. Michael Morbius (Jared Leto), who runs a facility for people with incurable illnesses.

Morbius Star Jared Harris Reflects On His Marvel Experience: "I Have Got A Mortgage To Pay..."
Image
Given Sony Pictures' track record with its Marvel movies, no one had particularly high hopes for Morbius before it was released in 2022. Still, the potential for the Living Vampire to take centre stage in a fun, horror-tinged adventure was definitely there.

Unfortunately, the version we got was a disaster. Boasting one of the worst post-credits scenes ever put on film, Morbius was a mess of a movie which stars Matt Smith, Tyrese, and Al Madrigal have all suggested wasn't the project they signed up for (the entire final act was reworked with extensive reshoots).

Now, Mad Men star Jared Harris has weighed in; the actor didn't have the most memorable role as Dr. Emil Nicholas, Michael Morbius' father figure, though it's possible he had more to do before additional photography took place.

Either way, when the actor recently spoke with i News, he bemoaned how Hollywood has largely taken a...

Morbius Director Breaks Silence On Panned Marvel Movie; Says It Was Made "Through Committee"
Image
No one had particularly high hopes for Morbius before it was released in 2022, but the potential for the Living Vampire to take centre stage in a fun, horror-tinged adventure was definitely there.

Boasting one of the worst post-credits scenes ever put on film, Morbius was a mess of a movie which stars Matt Smith, Tyrese, and Al Madrigal have all suggested wasn't the project they signed up for (the entire final act was reworked with extensive reshoots).

Talking to Deadline, filmmaker Daniel Espinosa broke his silence on the movie and asked if he suffered from the experience of making Morbius for Sony Pictures.

"Yes," he admitted. "To make a movie through committee, I think, is very hard, and I felt in the end that maybe a different director would have been a better fit. I’m known amongst the studios to be...

Morbius Director Says He Wasn't a Good Fit for Maligned Sony Movie
Image
Morbius is infamous for underperforming upon release in 2022. Not only did the movie come up short at the box office, it was pummeled by the critics, garnering a 15% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

In a new conversation with Deadline, Morbius director Daniel Espinosa commented on directing the movie. He now says he realizes he wasn't a good "fit" for that project, as he's someone who tries to bring a lot of ideas to the projects he works on. With Morbius, there may have just been too many cooks in the kitchen, as Espinosa explained.

When asked if he suffered because of Morbius underperforming, the director said, Yes. To make a movie through committee, I think, is very hard, and I felt in the end that maybe a different director would have been a better fit.

Espinosa added, "Im known amongst the studios to be a person with a lot of opinions,...

“He’s gonna be waiting an eternity for that phone call”: Fast X Star Gets Trolled for ‘Morbius 2’ Comment
Image
Jared Leto’s Morbius underwhelmingly performed at the global box office on its theatrical release but gained momentum when released online. Whatever the outcome went, the lead actor has already expressed his opinion on reprising his role which aligns with Fast X star, Tyrese Gibson.

Jared Leto as Morbius

The latter is currently occupied with promoting his new project, Bloodline Killer but when it comes to joining the Spider-Man Universe, he’s more open to the idea, which doesn’t fit well among the fandom.

Fast X Actor Tyrese Gibson is Open to Return for Morbius 2
