First Deadpool & Wolverine Reactions Say The MCU Is Back (Or Just Sigh Deeply)
Image
When early footage reactions to Shawn Levy's highly-anticipated "Deadpool & Wolverine" dropped on Twitter a few weeks back, the consensus was overwhelmingly positive. The limited pool of critics and audiences privy to the 35-minute sneak peek praised the film's irreverent humor while expressing hope for the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick. Well, it seems like we have to wait no longer, as the first reactions to the Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds-led superhero film, which had its world premiere last night, are finally here. While most of the reactions are enthusiastic and effusive, some express a sense of disappointment while praising the performances delivered by the central duo.

The finer details of "Deadpool & Wolverine" are under wraps for good reason, as the film is set to grace theaters this Friday, but the involvement of the Time Variance Authority, leads Deadpool and Wolverine to team up...

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes reactions hit social media
Image
The impressive reboot series of the Planet of the Apes movies continues as the stories look to extend further than the arc of the revolutionary leader, Caesar (memorably played by Andy Serkis). The film is out in about a week, and now reactions to the new entry from The Maze Runner director Wes Ball have started to roll out on social media. Our official review will be released on Wednesday at 11 am Et, but our own Chris Bumbray got to catch an extended preview of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes at CinemaCon in Las Vegas and was impressed, calling the footage “pretty jaw-dropping” and a worthy continuation of the modern trilogy.

Our own JimmyO participated in the junket, writing on Twitter, “#KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApes maintains – and builds – this impressive world that was explored by Matt Reeves. Wes Ball, The Maze Runner director, offers rich characters and an interesting take on the franchise.

Who would have thought something from 1968 would still be this popular? Planet of the Apes achieved something none of the franchises ever could. Over the years, it has demonstrated to Hollywood the art of the perfect reboot. Despite its initial revival being met with disappointment in 2001, what followed was nothing short of spectacular.

Drugs and Prostitutes Alleged at Australia’s Seven Network in Bruce Lehrmann Defamation Trial; Broadcaster ‘Appalled’ by Claims
Image
Australia’s Seven West Media and its Seven network may risk reputational damage following Federal Court revelations in Sydney on Thursday and Friday.

The defamation case was brought by former Liberal Party political aide Bruce Lehrmann against Network Ten and journalist Lisa Wilkinson. It does not directly involve Seven.

Lehrmann was tried in court in 2022 over the alleged rape of another political aide, Brittany Higgins, in Canberra in 2021. But the case and a retrial were abandoned with no findings against him.

Lehrmann’s defamation case alleges that Network 10 and Wilkinson have made false claims that he raped Higgins.

Network 10 and Higgins have said that they would defend their reporting as “substantially true.”

In late 2022, Seven, Australia’s most-watched TV network, aired an exclusive two-part interview with Lehrmann. But how its “Spotlight” investigative news program obtained that interview is now the subject of intense debate.

In court on Thursday, former...

Nicole Peplinski’s ‘LA Medical’ Short Film Completed, Headed To Festivals
Nicole Peplinski
Los Angeles, CA – March 23, 2023 – “LA Medical” tells the story of Dr. Porter, who loves her patients and finds such meaning in her work. As she loses a long, arduous battle in her own life, it’s the patients and their battles that help her navigate her own. Nicole Peplinski wrote, produced, and starred in the film alongside actor Michael Sun Lee. “LA Medical” has finished production and is now headed to film festivals.

Nicole Peplinski says, “I created this film to use art as the medium for analysis of the human experience. As our heroine navigates helping her patients, she juggles endometriosis and infertility, theories on what makes you feel unlovable, career success, and the painful reality of success having enemies and still trying to embrace all the opportunities in front of her.

Both socially and personally, it felt like the right time to artistically create work that would propel conversations regarding these social issues.

Set 300 years in the past, in the world of the Comanche Nation, “Prey” follows a character named Naru (Amber Midthunder), a warrior “raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains.” When the alien Predator comes calling, Naru sets out to protect her people.

The film features a cast comprised almost entirely of Native and First Nation’s talent, including Midthunder, newcomer Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp (“Sooyii”), Michelle Thrush (“The Journey Home”) and Julian Black Antelope (“Tribal”).

Along with the film itself, which is being praised as...

Another familiar “Full House” face is joining Netflix’s sequel/reboot “Fuller House.” Harry Takayama, Stephanie’s childhood friend, will be making an appearance on the Netflix series, TheWrap has learned. The character — now all grown up — will be played by actor Michael Sun Lee, and not Nathan Nishiguchi, the child actor who played Harry over multiple episodes of “Full House’s” second and third seasons. In one classic episode, Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and Harry get married after she feels left out of her own family’s festivities, with an elaborate backyard wedding to boot.
