Wendie Malick is an American television, film, and voice actress and former model best known for her roles as Nina Van Horn in the NBC series Just Shoot Me, for which she received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress. She has also starred in HBO’s Dream On as Judith Tupper Stone, for which she earned four CableACE Awards for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. The lone debate between the two major-party candidates for vice president in 2024 drew a big audience — but not nearly as large as four years ago.

Final Nielsen ratings for Tuesday’s face-off between Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic nominee for vice president, and Republican nominee Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, put the debate at 43.15 million viewers across 15 networks. More than 90 percent of those viewers — 40.25 million — watched on the big four broadcast networks and three largest cable news outlets (CNN, Fox News and MSNBC). Preliminary figures had those seven outlets totaling 38.62 million viewers.

The ratings for Tuesday’s telecast are a little below the historical average for VP debates — and down by 25.5 percent from the 57.92 million people who watched the 2020 debate between sitting Vice President Mike Pence and then-Sen. Kamala Harris (who is leading the Democratic ticket this year).

Bob Dole, who served in the Senate for nearly 30 years and was the Republican nominee for President in 1996, has died at the age of 98.

“It is with heavy hearts we announce that Senator Robert Joseph Dole died early this morning in his sleep,” his wife Elizabeth’s foundation announced on Sunday. “At his death, at age 98, he had served the United States of America faithfully for 79 years.”

Bob Dole, a longtime elder statesman in the Republican party who was its vice presidential nominee in 1976 and presidential nominee 20 years later, has died. He was 98.

The Elizabeth Dole Foundation, named for his wife, said in a statement that Dole died early Sunday morning in his sleep. Dole had been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer earlier this year.

With a baritone voice and sharp wit, Dole was a leading figure on the political scene for more than a generation, with a career highlighted by his work on behalf of veterans and veterans issues. Dole himself faced life threatening injuries in World War II, when he was severely injured in a German attack in Italy in 1944. He spend three years in rehabilitation, and his right arm was permanently paralyzed. Dole was awarded two Purple Hearts and two awards of the Bronze Star.
