Julie Chen Moonves on Rachel Reilly’s ‘epic’ return to ‘Big Brother,’ and what was mouthed to the camera after being ‘kidnapped’
Image
Welcome to Reality Derby, Gold Derby's weekly deep dive into all things reality TV, hosted by senior editors Marcus James Dixon and Denton Davidson. Watch the latest episode above.

As Big Brother celebrates its landmark 25th anniversary this year, host Julie Chen Moonves sits down for an exclusive interview in which she reflects on her journey with CBS' iconic reality TV show and why she thinks Rachel Reilly is still the "queen."

"I have learned that I can show my personal side," Chen Moonves shares about what she's learned about hosting over the past two and a half decades. She has "really evolved" from a strictly news personality to the often playful host that fans see today. "Moderating The Talk for eight years helped me also learn that I can show my personality on the show, and just to have fun with it and not take myself so seriously, or the game,...

‘I’m the queen’: Rachel Reilly opens up about why she returned to ‘Big Brother’ after 14 years
Image
Thursday's season premiere of Big Brother 27 ended with the shocking return of, as a fellow houseguest proclaimed, one of the show's "Mt. Rushmore" stars: Rachel Reilly, who returned to the game 14 years after winning Big Brother 13 in 2011.

"I am dreading being away from my family," she stated in a confessional interview recorded before she moved in and shared with Gold Derby. "But again, $750,000 is on the line. I'm here to play Big Brother. This is my dynasty. I'm the queen. I'm part of the royal family of Big Brother. So, I'm here to play the game, and I'm here to make great TV."

The controversial houseguest first competed on CBS' reality TV show in Season 12 in 2010, where she was the fifth person evicted. That's where she originally met Brendon Villegas, whom she married in 2012; they now have two kids together. Rachel and Brendon returned as a "Dynamic Duo" in Season...

Why Big Brother: All-Stars 3 Needs to Happen
Image
Big Brother: All-Stars 3 is something CBS needs to make happen.

The premise of the spin-off show is simple enough, with former houseguests returning to compete against fellow alums.

Big Brother: All-Stars first aired as Big Brother Season 7 in 2006, and featured recognizable players from the first six seasons.

(Sonja Flemming/CBS)

The producers invited back fan favorites, competition beasts, and folks who were good at creating drama in the house.

It yielded an uber-competitive season, with Mike “Boogie” Malin being named the first winner.

Big Brother Is One of the Most Popular Reality Series, So Why Is CBS Killing It?
Image
At one point, Big Brother was the most popular reality television show on the air.

The hook is simple: you trap a bunch of strangers in a small house with a large sum of money on the line, set up some carnival games every week, and watch them lie and backstab their way to the end.

It was easy to see the appeal, and the show was a mega hit in its early days. But those days have come and gone, leaving us with a series that feels nothing like it did during its heyday.

(Sonja Flemming/CBS) New Big Brother Doesn’t Have the Same Feel as Earlier Seasons

At some point this summer, Big Brother will return for season 27, and a new batch of houseguests will move in to compete for money.

‘The Amazing Race’ Host Phil Keoghan Wants to Add a Romantic Twist – With Help From Drew Barrymore and Reese Witherspoon
Image
It’s no secret that Drew Barrymore and Reese Witherspoon know a thing or two when it comes to romance. That’s why when the romcom royals pitched a romantic twist for a future season of “The Amazing Race,” host Phil Keoghan was all ears.

While teasing Season 37 of the CBS competition series, Keoghan revealed how the actress’ idea for a Valentine’s Day-themed season echoed a twist he’s long had in mind himself.

“I ran into Drew Barrymore and Reese Witherspoon in a bar in New York like a week, two weeks ago. I knew Drew because I did ‘Hollywood Squares’ with her and I’ve met her a few times,” he told TheWrap. “They both stopped me and they were like, ‘Hey, have you ever thought about a Valentine’s season?’ and then I said, ‘Well, are you guys offering to be on the show?'”

The producers have seen former houseguests succeed in the race, leading to a push to add even more for a future season.

Jessica Graf and Cody Nickson from Big Brother 19 won a season of The Amazing Race.

Several years later, Derek Xiao and Claire Rehfuss from Big Brother 23 also won The Amazing Race.

Big Brother legends Rachel Reilly, Nicole Franzel, Britney Haynes, and Janelle Pierzina have also appeared on The Amazing Race.

I Can't Believe How Much I'm Loving The Traitors US Season 3 After Its Incredible New Twists (Spoilers)
Image
The Traitors season 3 is here and I can’t believe how much I’m loving the season because of some incredible new twists, especially after being nervous about how the show would pan out this year. In the months ahead of The Traitors season 3’s premiere, I was wracking my brain trying to figure out how the show would improve upon its impressive sophomore season. While I enjoyed The Traitors season 2 more than its first season, I wasn’t sure how things could get better after seeing some of my reality TV favorites like Big Brother’s Dan Gheesling in the castle.

While I was thrilled when The Traitors season 3’s cast was revealed, I was nervous about the way the gameplay was impacted last season by the obvious tension between reality TV gamers and stars of unstructured reality shows. With lines drawn between competitors like Rhoa’s Phaedra Parks...

Big Brothers Janelle Pierzina Made A Strange Claim About Diddy Partying
Image
When he spent years as one of the music business' most powerful people, Sean "Diddy" Combs accomplished a lot. Diddy gained many famous friends, became rich enough to provide for his many kids, and he had many people working for him. However, after a series of allegations led to his homes being raided, many people spoke out about Diddy and his partying past.

When fans talk about reality shows like Big Brother, they typically discuss things like the show's many twists, what happened to the winners, and which seasons were the best. The thing that most Big Brother fans don't talk about, however, is the fact that the show's legend Janelle Pierzina once had a unique complaint about Diddy's partying.

Julie Chen Moonves in Big Brother (2000)
Big Brother is represented on The Traitors again this winter, joining the various other reality shows that sent players to Scotland.

Two Big Brother alums appeared in each of the first two seasons of The Traitors US. Viewers saw Cody Calafiore and Rachel Reilly in Season 1 and Dan Gheesling and Janelle Pierzina in Season 2.

Big Brother 2 winner Dr. Will Kirby had a guest appearance in the second season as a staged cabin owner (with wolves) in the Scottish forest.

Danielle Reyes and Britney Haynes are in the mix for The Traitors Season 3, but they must contend with 19 other people competing for the $250,000 prize pool.

Danielle was on BB3 and Big Brother All-Stars, while Britney was on BB12 and BB14. The ladies also played on Big Brother: Reindeer Games last winter.

Who should be on Big Brother: Reindeer Games 2? Alum has thoughts on possible future season
Image
Big Brother: Reindeer Games is a fun spin-off show that debuted on CBS in December 2023. The show rolled out during the downtime caused by the Writers Strike.

Bbrg featured alums competing for a $100,000 cash prize during a shortened season of Big Brother. Three alums also served as co-hosts for the holiday-themed show.

Nicole Franzel won Big Brother: Reindeer Games, making her the first person to win two Big Brother USA shows. Cody Calafiore, Danielle Reyes, and Taylor Hale were also played.

Many Big Brother fans hoped that Reindeer Games would return this winter, giving everyone something to watch while we wait for BB27.

But there will be no Reindeer Games this winter. The producers revealed that the CBS schedule couldn’t find space due to BB26 ending late and the CBS primetime schedule beginning later in the fall.

Reindeer Games wasn’t canceled, though. Maybe it could return next winter.

Big Brother fans can watch former houseguests on a range of shows this winter, giving everyone replacement shows for Reindeer Games.

As previously reported by Monsters and Critics, Big Brother: Reindeer Games 2024 was canceled. The show could return in 2025 but has been shelved for now.

Reindeer Games debuted in 2023 and featured 12 former houseguests. Nine former players competed for a nice cash prize; three were co-hosts.

Unfortunately, a new season of The Amazing Race (debuting in 2025) lacks Big Brother alums.

Many teams of Big Brother houseguests have competed in seasons of The Amazing Race, and two couples have won. Jessica Graf and Cody Nickson from BB19 won The Amazing Race 30; Claire Rehfuss and Derek Xiao from BB23 won The Amazing Race 34.

Big Brother 27 casting has also begun, so fans who want to compete can apply for the Summer 2025 season.

Why Big Brother Fans Desperately Wanted Jc Mounduix Evicted From The House
Image
One of the biggest reasons Big Brother is widely recognized as one of the best reality shows ever is because of how invested fans are in the show. After all, Big Brother fans care about things like ranking every season, what happened to the first winner, and where the first female winner is now. On top of that, Big Brother viewers also want what is best for the players, so they hope they get paid well and they were rooting for Adam Jasinski throughout his struggles and recovery.

On the other hand, sometimes Big Brother fans reject a houseguest because they are concerned about the other players. A perfect example of that is the fact that many Big Brother fans were outraged that Jc Mounduix wasn't ejected from the house.

Image
It seems like Diddy is getting called out left and right for different mistakes he’s made over the years. It’s possible people were scared to speak up about their bad experiences with him in the past, but now that he’s been arrested, folks are feeling more comfortable speaking their minds. Janelle Pierzina, a former contestant from Big Brother, just shared some details about a past experience she had with Diddy. Her experience wasn’t a good one.

Janelle Pierzina Didn’t Enjoy Serving Diddy

In a Twitter post via Distractify, Janelle posted the nitty-gritty details about what it was like dealing with Diddy while she worked in the service industry. She tweeted, “In 2005 I did VIP bottle service. Diddy and his entourage were in my section. The nightclub gave him like 20k in bottles free of charge. I gave his table great service all night. Big Brother 26's Jury Round Table Just Got A Massive Shakeup With Dr. Will Kirby's Latest Announcement
Image
After over ten years of serving as the Big Brother Jury Round Table host, Big Brother legend and season 2 winner Dr. Will Kirby has announced that he's stepping down from the role. During the Big Brother Jury Round Table, Will sat down with the jury to discuss who they thought should win the $750,000 grand prize. Will began hosting the Jury Round Table during Big Brother 15, and continued through Big Brother 25. In Big Brother 22 and 23, Will couldn't host due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

I can confirm that I will not be serving as the Big Brother jury roundtable host this season. It's simply time to hang up the proverbial cleats. The run I've had on the show, first as contestant and then as a host, is practically unheard of but nothing lasts forever; I am ready to pass the reality television baton!

‘Big Brother 26’ Janelle Pierzina Gives Opinion On A.I. Arena Competition
Image
Should the A.I. Arena become a permanent part of the Big Brother game? One former houseguest thinks so. Keep reading to find out what Janelle Pierzina has to say about the new addition to the game.

A New addition to Big Brother

This season on Big Brother, fans got to see quite a few changes, including the addition of the A.I. Arena to the game. The A.I. arena gives houseguests the chance to remove themselves from the block on eviction night. This happens during the live episode on Thursday so even the houseguests won’t know who they will be voting for. However, this does implement one other major change. Instead of nominating two people, the Head of Household must nominate three. So, there will still be two people on the block after the A.I. Arena.

Now, one former houseguest has taken to X, suggesting that the A.

The Big Brother 26 A.I. Arena Competition Should Be Permanent (Janelle Pierzina Thinks So Too)
Image
Big Brother 26 introduced the Bb A.I. Arena competition, and, as Big Brother legend Janelle Pierzina has suggested, it should become a permanent fixture in the game. During Big Brother 26, the Head of Household (Hoh) nominates three houseguests for eviction rather than the usual two. If one of the nominees is saved with the Power of Veto, then the Hoh names a replacement nominee, so that there are still three nominees on the chopping block on eviction night. However, not all of the nominees receive votes during the evictions, as one has a last-minute chance to save themselves in the Bb A.I. Arena.

The Big Brother 26 A.I. Arena competition occurs right before the live vote and eviction. So far, the Bb A.I. Arena competitions have consisted of timed puzzles, and the competitions play out in real time during the live eviction episodes. The winner of the competition...

Six-time Emmy nominee Alan Cumming was not the biggest fan of reality television prior to being approached to host the U.S. edition of “The Traitors.” Despite eventually taking the job that required keeping a watchful eye over alumni from such shows as “Survivor,” “Big Brother,” “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” and “The Challenge,” and excelling to the point of a current Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program nomination for his work on Season 2, the Scottish star jokes, “I’m still not.”

Big Brother Legend Janelle Pierzina Thinks This Unpredictable Big Brother 26 Twist Should Be Permanent
Image
Janelle Pierzina champions the Big Brother 26 Bb A.I. Arena twist, proposing it as a permanent game fixture for more excitement and unpredictability. The Bb A.I. Arena makes it more challenging for players to vote with the house and thwarts eviction strategies such as backdooring. Janelle agrees with a fan who thinks that the Bb A.I. Arena twist should continue only until jury.

Big Brother legend Janelle Pierzina loves the Big Brother 26 Bb A.I. Arena twist, and she suggested making it a permanent part of the game. In the Bb A.I. Arena twist, the Head of Household (Hoh) nominates three houseguests for eviction every week. After playing for the Power of Veto, the final three nominees battle it out in the A.I. Arena, during which one wins safety right before the live eviction. The Big Brother 26 houseguests don't know who the final two nominees are until minutes before the vote,...
