Jay Weisman's ten-year labor of love, the indie Sci-fi flick Shockwave: Darkside hits VOD January 5 from Uncork’d Entertainment, so we thought we'd share a new trailer for the film.

London-based sales and production outfit Moviehouse Entertainment has signed four completed titles to its roster in time for the Afm.

Jack Laskey and Zhu Zhu star in completed romance thriller Secret Sharer, the feature directorial debut of Oscar-winning producer Peter Fudakowski (Tsotsi).

Inspired by Joseph Conrad’s novella, the film South China Sea-set film tells the story of a young sea captain’s journey to maturity and the challenges he faces.

Earth. 2013. Some guy sits in his basement flat in a proverbial state of unemployment. His only goal? To perfect his game of Halo. Mission completed. So what next? Earth. 2014. Said unemployed guy has pumped all his energy into a sci-fi movie, shot in 3D and to be screened at Frightfest. The result? A film that looks, feels and sounds like a game of Halo!

This year’s Film4 FrightFest guest list brings together the great, the grand and the gifted as over 100 filmmakers, performers, writers and producers from all over the world make their way to the Vue West End for the 15th Film4 FrightFest event which runs from Thursday 21st – Monday 25th August. Highlights – at least as far as we here at Nerdly are concerned – include the legend(s) that are Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm St.) and Alan Moore (Watchmen), the infamous Jorg Buttgereit (Nekromantik), Frightfest fave Adam Green (Hatchet, Holliston), the always-wonderful Jessica Cameron (Truth or Dare, The Tour) and friend to Nerdly, Federico Zampaglone (Tulpa) whose short Remember I’m possibly looking forward to seeing the most at this years festival!

“I’m your boyfriend now, Nancy.” It may be hard to believe, but it’s been thirty years since Robert Englund’s Freddy Krueger said those words to Heather Langenkamp’s Nancy in Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street. A 30th anniversary screening of the film is taking place at this year’s Film4 FrightFest, and Englund has been announced as a member of a guest lineup that includes Alan Moore.

Taking place at London’s Vue West End, the 15th Film4 FrightFest will run from August 21st – 25th. In addition to celebrating the 30th anniversary of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Robert Englund will also be unveiling his latest film, The Last Showing.

Actress Maika Monroe will be on hand for the UK premiere of The Guest, and director John McNaughton (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer) will screen his latest film, The Harvest. Also of note...

Nightmare on Elm Street star and comic-book legend set for horror festival.

Film4 FrightFest (Aug 21-25) has unveiled its guest list, topped by A Nightmare On Elm Street star Robert Englund.

The Us horror actor will attend the festival to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Wes Craven classic, screening on Aug 24, and to launch the latest production in which he stars, The Last Showing, which screens Aug 22.

Festival co-director Alan Jones described Englund as “one of the genre’s originals” and “an icon of fright”.

In support of opening film The Guest, Us actress Maika Monroe will present the UK premiere of the thriller, directed by Adam Wingard and co-starring Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens. Monroe is also the star of horror It Follows, which debuted at Cannes.

Alan Moore, the author of bestselling graphic novels Watchmen, V for Vendetta and From Hell, will attend the festival to introduce and discuss his short film trilogy Show Pieces...

Called “The Woodstock of Gore” by Guillermo Del Toro, otherwise more commonly known to the rest of us as FILM4 FrightFest, has recently announced the line-up of its 15th annual instalment that runs from Thursday 21st to Monday 25th August. The line-up for this year's Film4 FrightFest in London has just been announced – and boy, is it a doozy! Sporting a record-breaking 38 UK/European premieres and 11 world premieres, this August is going to be an exciting time in the genre calendar.

This year Film4 FrightFest will be moving from its previous home at Leicester Square's Empire Cinema to the nearby Vue Cinema (also on Leicester Square), prompting an ingenious reshuffle of the screening arrangements.

All main screen films will be presented at different times across three different screens, with two extra screens reserved for single-slot screenings of the various films hitting this year's Discovery Screens.

I’m still in the midst of being part of the Ifp Narrative Labs this year. For those of you who are not familiar with the Labs, it’s an intensive year-long mentorship for first-time filmmakers who are through their rough cut and now onto the business of “finishing.” And they’ve been amazing mentors so far. And they’ve connected my team with so many bright people. But the process has gotten me thinking about how and why I started appreciating films and people who do this and what being a first-timer actually means. So as I’m sitting in color correct this week, I thought about this guy… This guy is Jay Weisman and we grew up in Michigan together. We lived in identical Pulte homes five houses away. His was brown and mine was tan. And after school, I went to his place a lot because his mom had unlimited Doritos.

Following last year's pattern, the last day of San Diego Comic Con 2011 is all about kids. With the 8th annual San Diego International Children's Film Festival being kicked off on Sunday, July 24, about 60 short films from around the world are brought to the convention in a presentation that runs from 10:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M.

"Tom and Jerry & The Wizard of Oz", which will be available on Blu-Ray Combo Pack and DVD on August 23, will be premiered in a screening taking place at Room 6A. Eleven-year-old animator and child film critic Perry Chen will participate in "The Holocaust Through the Eyes of a Child, Animated by a Child" panel which will bring forward his work "Ingrid Pitt: Beyond The Forest" as a topic of discussion.

Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.

Every summer, hundreds of projects - from films to TV shows and comics - compete for attention amid the mad maelstrom that is San Diego Comic-Con.

It's easy for many of the smaller ventures to be overshadowed by the big-budget presentations and among the lesser-known projects at the event was a 3D space thriller called Shockwave, Darkside.

Duncan Jones' recent lunar-based drama Moon brought us a return to classic sci-fi and reminded the industry that quality can be crafted with careful thought and the judicious use of budget as much as with throwing hundreds of millions of dollars at the screen for endless, explosive spectacle.

Writer/director Jay Weisman has taken a similar approach - and hopes for a similar reception - with his independently financed Shockwave, Darkside, which also happens to be set on the moon. Weisman unveiled a trailer (see below) at Comic-Con along with plans for a web-based tie-in comic.

The Saturday and Sunday line-ups for San Diego Comic Con 2010 programming have been released. Some big studios will present their upcoming big projects on July 24, while the organizers arrange the last day to be "Kids' Day".

Possibly getting the most attention on Saturday, July 24 will be Warner Bros. which is going to bring "Harry Potter" film franchise for the first time by presenting a sneak peek to the last installment, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", but the studio has confirmed that the cast won't attend the panel. As if it is not enough, the studio will also tease attendees with a look at "Green Lantern" and "Sucker Punch".

Other panels that will become spotlights that day are Marvel Studios' presentation for "Thor" and "Captain America : The First Avenger", and Screen Gems' panel for "Resident Evil: Afterlife". Moreover, Universal Pictures will use Hall H to introduce "Paul" and "Cowboys and Aliens".

Here it is gang! The full schedule for the final day at Comic-Con, Sunday July 25th. There really isn't much happening on Sunday, it looks like it's gonna be a pretty relaxed day. There's a few panels we are going to catch, but I think we'll be playing catch-up on some articles. Sunday is traditionally known as Kids day, which features 27 Special Programs just for Kids. Supposedly, this film from Jay Weisman is currently in production, and while I can find very little, the test footage we have of someone walking around the "moon" looks pretty damn convincing. We're trying to get in touch to find out more.

This is a unique high-concept, low budget science fiction feature film about five soldiers fighting for survival in a futuristic war on the moon. Stranded in enemy territory they find themselves making a discovery that could save their lives... but destroy the very things that they are fighting for.
