Chinese star Jiang Mengjie lauded for exposing upskirting blackmail

Chinese actor Jiang Mengjie is receiving praise for telling her story about upskirting.

Jiang told her eight million followers on the Chinese social network Weibo that she had been blackmailed over the explicit video, which had been filmed “many years ago”.

The star who shot to fame on the 2010 television series The Dream of Red Mansions told her fans that the video left her “angry and disgusted, along with a feeling of powerlessness,” per the BBC’s translation.

Jiang revealed that she had been sent private messages about the footage “saying that they would send the video to major film and TV companies and brands, and ruin the rest of my life”.

The police have since told the star that the suspect who blackmailed her has been detained, and she will be “notified in time of their punishment”.

BBC Studios, the commercial arm of U.K. broadcaster BBC, has revealed a first look and development deal with London-based talent and entertainment company Diving Bell Group.

Founded by Kim Butler and Justin Girdler in 2017, Diving Bell represents creators and innovators in the purpose-led space including model, trans activist and cultural figure Munroe Bergdorf; feminist author, illustrator and influencer Florence Given; Gina Martin, who successfully led the national campaign to make upskirting illegal; and Emma Gannon whose careers podcast “Ctrl Alt Delete” has amassed over 10 million downloads.

The deal gives BBC Studios a first look at content ideas from Diving Bell clients for the purpose of collaborating to develop these ideas and pitch for commissions. BBC Studios has struck a first look and development deal with Diving Bell Group, the talent agency that represents the likes of trans activist Munroe Bergdorf and feminist author Florence Given.

The BBC’s commercial arm described Diving Bell Group as representing “some of the most future-facing, change-making creators currently emerging in the UK.”

The outfits will collaborate to develop ideas and pitch for commissions and Kelly Webb-Lamb, Channel 4’s former Deputy Director of Programmes, has been consulting with both to identify these opportunities. BBC Studios will be given a first look at content ideas from Diving Bell’s clients.

Looking Back On The 100: Leah Gibson On Gina's Legacy, Missed Opportunities, and More!

A character that leaves behind a meaningful memory can be quite rare, especially if the character only has a limited amount of time to leave an impression.

Leah Gibson rose to the challenge and captivated the audience with her portrayal of Gina, adding a layer of love to an unmatched character.

Her presence was a breath of fresh air, making us believe that maybe there was a future where things were just wonderful.

Gina Martin also brought some happiness to our favorite leading man, Bellamy Blake. Although Bellamy and the audience weren't lucky enough to keep Gina with us, she still left her own legacy behind.

The time that we got to spend with Gina was an incredible memory, and it symbolized the possibility for more.

Gina's death was also an inspiration for fans to express their frustration with the character offering more than just her relationship with Bellamy.

#March4Women To Take Place On March 3
This year’s #March4Women, taking place on Sunday 3 March, will mark 100 years since the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act which permitted women to enter professions, most notably law – and will celebrate the modern-day campaigners who have challenged the law to change the world.

Organisers Care International will use the occasion to call for a global law to protect women worldwide from sexual harassment, violence and abuse in the workplace. Speakers include Helen Pankhurst, Annie Lennox, Lady Hale, President of the Supreme Court of England and Wales and Mexican labour rights activist Marcelina Bautista. Music produced by celebrated composer David Arnold will include multi-award-winning singer Beverley Knight, Urban Voices Collective, and Bond string quartet.
