‘Hatfields & McCoys’ on Sundance: Revisit Kevin Costner & Bill Paxton Preview as Series Returns
Image
Thanks to the mega-success of Yellowstone, everyone wants to see Kevin Costner in a cowboy hat! As a Thanksgiving football alternative, SundanceTV is reloading the 2012 shoot-’em-up series Hatfields & McCoys — nominated for 16 Emmys, one of those won by Costner — for back-to-back airings. Here’s a look at the three-parter, taken from the original TV Guide Magazine preview by David Hochman. For Kevin Costner, the beard was probably the toughest part. “It went on one hair at a time, singly laid in,” he says of the old-man whiskers he wears for the epic Hatfields & McCoys. Costner plays Devil Anse Hatfield, patriarch and neighbor-from-hell to Randall McCoy, from ages 30 to 73. “My chin would get poked and prodded for an hour every morning,” says Costner. “I’d play music, I’d talk to people, but it never got any easier.” His forbearance speaks to the passion the actor brings to Hatfields,...

Where Was Hatfields & McCoys Filmed? Filming Locations Explained
Image
The Hatfields & McCoys 2012 miniseries was not filmed locally, and here is the explanation of why. The Hatfield and McCoy feud is a well-known historical conflict in the late 1800s between two families who lived in the Appalachian Mountains. The Hatfields resided in Mingo County, West Virginia, and the McCoys in Pike County, Kentucky. However, due to tax incentives, the 2012 series Hatfields & McCoys was primarily filmed in Romania. The Carpathian Mountains in Romania looked similar to the Appalachians, with their rolling hills and dense forests.

Although some filming was done on location in West Virginia, filming on the actual historical sites proved difficult. Many sites were protected for their historical significance, making it challenging for the production team to get permission to film there. Nevertheless, the show received critical acclaim, partly because of the stunning scenery. The Hatfields & McCoys series was an excellent representation of the historical feud between the families,...

Fox Nation Expands Reality TV Offering With ‘The Real Hatfields and McCoys: Forever Feuding’ (Exclusive)
Image
Fox Nation is moving further into reality TV with the debut of new series “The Real Hatfields and McCoys: Forever Feuding.”

The series marks Fox Nation’s next step into reality TV content following the June 2022 debut of “Duck Dynasty” spinoff “Duck Family Treasure.” Recently, the Fox News-backed streamer has been ramping up its lifestyle and entertainment offering on the platform, including projects featuring Kevin Costner, Roseanne Barr and Kelsey Grammer.

Launching April 24 on the conservative streamer, the five-episode “The Real Hatfields & McCoys: Forever Feuding” “will spotlight the modern-day Hatfields and McCoys whose notoriously violence-ridden relationship has taken a contemporary twist. From the families’ brutal disputes in the 1800s to current 21st century issues, the program, set in West Virginia, highlights their ongoing rivalry.”

Per Fox Nation, “Hatfield family members including Nancy Justus (the oldest surviving direct descendent of Devil Anse Hatfield), Missy Lester, Amber Bishop, Chad Bishop and...
