Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune star Dave Bautista is still fighting to play the role of Marcus Fenix in the long-awaited adaptation of the video game Gears of War. In fact, so determined is the action star to lead the project (which is currently in development at Netflix) that he has asked fans to start an online campaign.
And if that wasn't enough to convince you of his passion for the part, the actor has also revealed to Comicbook.com that he has started bugging Netflix himself:
“Start an online thing about freaking Gears of War. Come on, Netflix. Come on already. It’s not like I’m not badgering them. Come on, Netflix. Get it together.”

Exclusive: In an usually heated and high-priced battle for a spec script with no attachments, Amazon MGM has made a deal for Outdueled. The logline for the script by F. Scott Frazier and Jimmy Loweree is being kept under wraps because it is high concept, but I’m told that this went for a high amount because it has such strong possibilities as a franchise launcher. Deal calls for a wide theatrical release, and a fast track to production.
It’s an Escape Artists film, with Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch producing with Tony Shaw and Jonathan Shukat. David Bloomfield is exec producer. Courtenay Valenti and Julie Rapaport led the charge for Amazon MGM. They bought it quickly and paid a price said to be the highest in years for a spec with no attachments, in an era when most material sales are loaded with elements.

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the popular video game “Gears of War” moves one step closer as Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Jon Spaihts has boarded the project.
Best known for co-writing “Dune,” “Dune: Part Two” and “Doctor Strange,” Spaihts will now take on the challenge of adapting “Gears of War,” one of gaming’s richest and most acclaimed video game sagas, with over 40 million copies sold.
“’Gears of War’ is one of the all-time great action games, with vivid characters, a beautifully designed world, and a combat system that drives home the lethality of war and the importance of standing by your squadmates,” Spaihts said in a statement to Variety. “It wants to be cinema, and I’m thrilled to have the chance to help that happen.”

After years in and out of development hell, it sounds like the much-loved "Gears of War" video game franchise may actually be making the jump from your gaming console to your Netflix home page. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming giant is set to tackle not one but two adaptations of the massively popular series, which currently includes five main games plus several spin-offs.
Per THR, the Netflix deal in partnership with The Coalition includes plans for a live-action feature film adaptation, as well as an adult-oriented animated series. The streamer was able to acquire rights to the saga after months of reported negotiations, years after Universal previously optioned the rights to "Gears of War." In fact, the road to an adaptation has been anything but straightforward for the Epic Games and The Coalition-made series.

“Gears of War,” one of the most popular Xbox video game series of all time, is expanding to Netflix.
Netflix is making a feature film adaptation followed by an adult animation series based on the sci-fi shooter franchise, the company announced Monday. The streamer also notes there is “potential for more stories to follow.”
Video game developer The Coalition, who took the reins on “Gears of War” after Microsoft acquired the rights to the series from original creator Epic Games, has partnered with Netflix on the upcoming adaptations.
The first “Gears of War” released exclusively on the Xbox 360 in 2006 and followed a macho team of soldiers called Delta Squad fighting against the Locust Horde, a subterranean alien race that decimates humanity. The main Delta Squad crew consisted of Marcus Fenix, Dominic “Dom” Santiago, Augustus Cole and Damon Baird. They used a variety of heavy-duty firearms, rocket launchers and lancers — which...

Credit where credit is due, Dave Bautista is a man who knows what he wants. To illustrate that point, rather than take a role in the Fast & Furious franchise, a multi-billion dollar franchise mind you, the wrestler-turned-actor, instead, tried to get a Gears of War movie going. Bautista, for some time, has wanted to play the role of Marcus Fenix on the big screen and he has truly gone out of his way to try and make it happen.
Dave Bautista is currently making the rounds to promote Army of the Dead, which arrives in theaters this weekend and on Netflix next week. During a recent interview, he revealed that he was called into a meeting that had to do with him possibly taking a role in a Fast & Furious movie. As Bautista explains, he instead steered the meeting toward Gears of War. Here's what he had to say about it.

The jury is out on whether or not we'll ever see a Gears of War movie starring Dave Bautista, but the wrestler-turned-actor is finally making his way to that universe. It's been revealed that Bautista will be coming to Gears 5 as a playable character shortly after the game's official launch later this week. Bautista shared the news personally, with Xbox confirming the news officially as well.
Dave Bautista has been particularly vocal about his desire to star in a live-action movie based on the video game franchise. No doubt, that helped to pave the way for this to take place. The Guardians of the Galaxy and Stuber star took to Twitter to make the announcement. He shared a video of him decked out in Gears armor, turning around to face the camera and saying, "It's about f****** time," while putting on some shades. Bautista shared the video with the following caption.

We have some new, rather intriguing details about the Gears of War movie. This is a project that was first announced, via a deal with Universal Pictures, back in 2016. Development has been a bit slow, but F. Scott Frazier (xXx: The Return of Xander Cage) was hired in November 2018 to pen the screenplay. Now, The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson has dished on how they're going to bring the video game franchise to the big screen, and that's going to involve divorcing the story from the actual video games via an alternate reality.
Rod Fergusson is, essentially, the man in charge of the Gears of War franchise. During a recent interview, he was asked about the movie and he revealed that it will be taking place in a totally separate reality, one that will allow them to tell a story that isn't so heavily connected to the one already laid...

We’ve got some interesting new information to share with you regarding the long awaited Gears of War movie. The script for the film is being worked on by F. Scott Frazier (Collide and xXx: Return of Xander Cage).
When it was announced that he was writing the movie, it was said that the story would be set on the planet Sera, and that it follows a former P.O.W. “who leads the human resistance against the Locust Horde, a race of creatures who emerge from beneath the Earth’s surface intent on eliminating mankind.”
According to Gears of War head Rod Fergusson, the movie will not be set in the same reality of the game. It will be its own thing and tell its own story, a story that will not be dependent on the games. He explains:

Jay Basu has been tapped to rewrite the screenplay for “Battlestar Galactica,” Universal Pictures’ reimagining of the 1978 television series created by Glen Larson, individuals with knowledge of the project exclusively tell TheWrap. An earlier draft of the script was written by Lisa Joy (“Westworld”).
Francis Lawrence will direct the film. Dylan Clark will produce for his Dylan Clark Productions alongside Michael De Luca through his Michael De Luca Productions. Scott Stuber will executive produce.
Like “Star Wars,” “Battlestar Galactica” was a 1970s space opera that traded on special effects, amazing hair, and a strange world. The show was a response to the success of George Lucas’ film, with its own space battles and spooky, robotic bad guys. Time Magazine listed it as one of the 100 Best TV Shows of All-Time.

The Gears of War movie has some new life. Universal has tapped F. Scott Frazier to pen the screenplay for the video game adaptation, which has been gestating for a couple of years now. Frazier previously penned last year's xXx: Return of Xander Cage, as well as The Numbers Station and Collide. Should his draft of Gears of War get the go-ahead from the studio, it would easily be his most high-profile project to date.
Previously, Avatar 2 writer Shane Salerno took a crack at the adaptation. Apparently, Universal wants to head in a different direction with it. According to the new report, F. Scott Frazier is writing an entire screenplay and it doesn't sound like he's simply going to do a rewrite of what's already been put to paper previously. Universal initially acquired the rights to the blockbuster video game franchise from Microsoft in 2016. Development has been a bit slow up to this point,...

Universal Pictures is moving forward with their big screen adaptation of the hit video game Gears of War.
This project has been sitting around waiting to be developed at the studio for a couple years. They picked up the rights to the property back in 2016, but now according to The Wrap, they’re ready to get serious about moving forward with it. They’ve hired screenwriter F. Scott Frazier to write the script. Frazier’s previous writing credits include Collide and xXx: Return of Xander Cage.
I think that the films Frazier has worked on have been pretty mediocre action film projects, so I’m not expecting much from the Gears of War script that he’ll write. I’m sure the movie will look visually awesome, but as I’ve said many times before, visuals don’t make a great film.

Exclusive: Adrift helmer Baltasar Kormakur and Hugh Jackman are circling The Good Spy, Kai Bird’s biography of CIA operative Robert Ames that Parkes+MacDonald Image Nation set up in 2014. Script is by F. Scott Frazier.
Laurie MacDonald and Walter Parkes are producing along with Evan Hayes. Bird will act as a consultant on the project.
They are waiting for a rewrite, but the hope is for Jackman to play Ames, an operative in the Middle East who was a big proponent of breaking down barriers by forming strong relationships there. He was killed in the bombing outside the 1983 American Embassy in Beirut, and his grave at the Arlington National Cemetery is the only one that carries “CIA” in its inscription. The film is based around his career exploits and personal life.

While the animated spin-off The Lego Batman Movie has had no trouble winning in its first two box office weekends, it was largely expected to cede its box office crown to Get Out this weekend. While Get Out did take the top spot this weekend, it did so with a larger total than expected, earning an impressive $30.5 million in its opening weekend. What's even more impressive is that total represents more than six times its meager budget of $4.5 million. The winner for the last two weekends, The Lego Batman Movie, dropped to second place with $19 million, which was just a 41.8% drop from last weekend, while the other two new releases, Collide and Rock Dog, failed to even crack the top 10.
None of this weekend's new releases had anywhere near the type of wide release of The Lego Batman Movie, which is currently playing in 4,088 theaters. Box Office Mojo reports that Get Out debuted in 2,781 theaters,...

Watching Collide – the action thriller that debuted on roughly 2,000 screens this weekend – will, more likely than not, leave audiences wondering how indeed the film made it to the big screen. Its warmed-over love story, the one-last-job premise that fuels the plot and the parade of cliches it happily checks out of its cinematic bucket list don’t exactly scream “wide theatrical release.” So what then can we attribute the film’s major release to? Certainly, that answers boils down to the four acclaimed stars that frontline Eran Creevy’s third directorial effort.
Nicholas Hoult stars as Casey, a low-level criminal who gives up his life of delinquency when he falls in love with Juliette (Felicity Jones). However, in order for them to live happily ever after, Casey must resume working for drug dealer Geran (Ben Kingsley) on a task that puts both him and Juliette in the crosshairs of notorious...

Warner Bros.' animated spin-off The Lego Batman Movie has had no trouble taking down a other high-profile competitors in its first two weeks in theaters, beating Fifty Shades Darker and John Wick Chapter 2 in its opening weekend, while handily defeating The Great Wall, Fist Fight and A Cure For Wellness last weekend. This Friday, it may face its greatest challenge yet, with the critically-acclaimed thriller Get Out debuting alongside the action film Collide and the animated family comedy Rock Dog. We're predicting that Get Out will just barely win over The Lego Batman Movie, with the thriller opening to the tune of $23.4 million, as The Lego Batman Movie drops to second place with $19.8 million.

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage starts off strong (and ridiculous) and keeps on going at a hundred miles per hour. You know you’re in for a crazy ride when the movie starts with title cards introducing each character: name, characteristics, favourite song, etc., you know, the usual! Even more ridiculous is that the first person we see – besides Samuel L. Jackson’s super-spy Gibbons – is footballing superstar Neymar, who is being recruited into the xXx program, in a Chinese restaurant, at 7am in the morning… Sounds absurd? Yes. Fun? Definitely!
And that’s the key to xXx 3, it is absurd And fun. The two go hand in hand, that’s how the franchise started and that’s how I hope it goes on…...

Chicago – The true miracle of “xXx: Return of Xander Cage” – besides constantly breaking the law of physics – was making the sonorous line readings of Vin Diesel almost palatable. This over-the-top action fantastic turns up every implausibility dial to the red zone, but satisfactorily entertains.

In this film, you will believe a man can ski without snow, shoot bullets in public without reaction or ramifications, wreck enough cars to affect the auto insurance actuary, free fall from 30,000 feet, and make love to a bevy of willing beauties even though he is clearly 20-25 years older than they are. I got to hand it to the production team, this is perfect escapism for this “historic” weekend and dreaded winter, and they had no shame in presenting impossible stunts and gunplay without winking. This is like a cinematic adrenalin shot.

Watching xXx: Return Of Xander Cage mimics the effect of mainlining a Red Bull/Jolt Cola concoction while you skydive off the Empire State Building with only a handkerchief for a parachute. It’s like Shaun White and Travis Pastrana had conjoining daredevil wet dreams that formed some Exxxtreme tsunami of fantastical X-Games stuntmanship. I imagine someone asking “what about a story?” only to have Vin Diesel grab them by the lapel, hoist them up and say, “how about I skateboard, travel and bed sexy ladies for the first twenty minutes, There’S Your Story!” – they complied, of course. That’s the opening to Xander Cage’s adrenaline-packed franchise return, and radness only increases from there broskis and braskis!

And it proves that one does not need snow in order to ski.

Naturally, Xander comes down, in his own way, leaping from the top wearing skis, proving that Xander Cage can pretty much do anything. Last week, Paramount released a new XXX 3 trailer that introduced reggaeton music superstar Nicky Jam as Lazarus, who is just one of several new characters joining Vin Diesel's Xander Cage in this new action-thriller. Today we have a new clip which shows Xander Cage trying to chase down another new cast member, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Donnie Yen, who plays Xiang in this highly-anticipated sequel, in theaters January 20, 2017. This clip may seem like a garden-variety chase sequence, but, with the help of some innovative motorcycles, this chase goes from land to sea.
IGN debuted this clip, which starts with Vin Diesel's Xander Cage leaving Deepika Padukone's Serena Unger behind, as he takes off to chase down Xiang. If male wish fulfilment is your thing, then xXx: Return Of Xander Cage clearly has everything you need. Men doing the action hero/bad-guy thing, women being trophies to be won while making the men look good, and a few token ‘bad-a** women’ to earn some points with the ladies. Indeed, this new trailer for the third instalment in the xXx franchise delivers exactly what is expected.
Directed by D.J. Caruso – who’s new to the franchise – and written by F. Scott Frazier, xXx: Return Of Xander Cage sees extreme-sports-enthusiast-turned-secret-agent Xander Cage heading up a new team to save the world from a plot to take over military resources for nefarious purposes.
