Kiss’ Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley explain how their manager Bill Aucoin shaped them into the make-up wearing, fire-spitting rock gods they became in a new clip from Biography: KISStory, airing in two-parts, June 27th and 28th, on A&e.

In the clip, Simmons remembers how Aucoin saw Kiss’ song “Firehoue” as an opportunity to introduce fire-spitting into their live show. “Literally the very first show we did, my hair went up like a fucking matchstick,” Simmons says, as accompanying archival footage of the incident plays. “And the fans loved it!

Update (4/29): Kiss will perform at the Tribeca Film Festival following the screening of part one of their new documentary, Biography: KISStory. The screening and performance will take place June 11th at an undisclosed location. Kiss: A&e Preps Two-Part Documentary On Classic Rock Band For Biography Strand

Kiss, the band behind hits such as Rock & Roll All Nite and God Gave Rock & Roll To You, are set to be the subject of a four-hour, two-part documentary for A&e.

The cable network has ordered Biography: KISStory as part of its long-running doc strand.

It will be produced by Leslie Greif, who produced Gene Simmons Family Jewels for the network. Greif’s Big Dreams Entertainment will produce with Critical Content, whose Jenny Daly will exec produce alongside Greif.

It comes after Deadline revealed that Netflix was on the brink of a deal for Shout It Out Loud, a feature biopic about the band from director Joachim Rønning.

Biography: KISStory, which will be directed by D.J. Viola (Christmas Wishes and Mistletoe Kisses), will chronicle the band’s five decades in the business as founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons reflect on their career.

Written by a trio of writers, James Hibberd, Rob Warren Thomas, and D.J. Viola, the film deals with illicit drug trials and a memory enhancing toxin. The side effects of the drug give some of the protagonists the ability to see into the future. It also gives the same powers to a ruthless villain.
