Stars: Joseph Sikora, Annie Ilonzeh, Iddo Goldberg, Ruby Modine, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Andrew Bachelor, Tyler Abron, Terrence Jenkins, Jessica Allain, Michele McCormick | Written by John Ferry, Deon Taylor | Directed by Deon Taylor

Fear begins with the sound of a tape being placed in a Vcr followed by extremely glitchy footage of author Rom Jennings being interviewed about his upcoming book, a non-fiction work on the mythology surrounding fear. Among other things, he mentions needing to take a research trip to a particular area in Northern California.

That location is the Strawberry Lodge and Rom is bringing his girlfriend Bianca on the trip with plans to propose to her. He’s also invited his agent, Michael and some friends including Serena, Lou, Benny, Kim and married couple Russ and Meg to join them.

Director Deon Taylor and co-writer John Ferry set this reunion against the backdrop of an unnamed pandemic. While...

‘Fear’ (2023) Ending, Explained: Who Survived The Horrors Of The Strawberry Lodge?
Image
Pandemic-themed horror movies have started coming out three years after Covid-19 made the earth stand still as millions died from a horrible virus. Now, Deon Taylor’s horror film Fear uses the panic in people’s minds during 2020 as the backdrop for his film, where a group of friends arrives at a lodge only to realize there’s something severely wrong here. Starring an ensemble cast including Joseph Sikora, King Back, T.I., Annie Ilonzeh, and Terrence J., among others, the movie tries to exploit people’s worst fears against them. To be honest, though, the movie is bad. It’s choppy, replete with poor editing and bad direction, and the story goes every which way, making for a bad and unsatisfactory watch. By the end of the 100-odd minutes, you’ll be wishing you didn’t sit down for this.

Spoilers Ahead

Second Trailer for January Horror Film 'Fear' at the Strawberry Lodge
Image
"It's playing backwards…" What does it mean when a record plays backwards, oh no?! Hidden Empire has revealed a second official trailer for Fear, releasing in theaters in just a few more weeks. This one looks like it's worth skipping. A new film made by director Deon Taylor, best known for his films The Intruder, Fatale, and Black and Blue. A year into living through a worldwide pandemic, a small group of friends gather in the remote Tahoe Mountains to stay at the "Historic Strawberry Lodge". But celebration turns to terror as one by one each guest faces their own worst fear. The horror movie stars Joseph Sikora, T.I., King Bach, Terrence J, Ruby Modine, Annie Ilonzeh, Iddo Goldberg, and Jessica Allain. This looks instantly forgettable and annoyingly derivative. They even had to stuff the trailer with a bunch of boring "evil" quotes. ›››

Confronting Fears in a Creepy Lodge in First Trailer for 'Fear' Horror
Image
"Believing what you fear will bring to the victim what they are afraid of." Hidden Empire has debuted an official trailer for Fear, yet another January horror film releasing at the end of the first month in the New Year. From director Deon Taylor, best known for his films The Intruder, Fatale, and Black and Blue. A year into living through a worldwide pandemic, a group of friends gather in the remote Tahoe Mountains to stay at the "Historic Strawberry Lodge". But celebration turns to terror as one by one each guest faces their own worst fear. Plenty of other films have had this "confront your fears" concept, so what's the hook in this one?? The horror movie stars Joseph Sikora, T.I., King Bach, Terrence J, Ruby Modine, Annie Ilonzeh, Iddo Goldberg, and Jessica Allain. Not a very good trailer, with erratic editing making it extra confusing to know what...

Everything You Need to Know About “Are You The One?” This Season
Image
It’s been eight years since the first episode of “Are You The One?” (Ayto) premiered. Although the dating show didn’t hit mainstream fame immediately, it’s built a steady following and widely dispersed fan base over the years — even getting its own spin-off, “Are You The One: Second Chances.”

The dating series remains a fan-favorite among other series like “Ex on the Beach.” Some have even said this could be regarded as one of the best dating-style TV shows witnessed in the last decade. Many fans have likened it to “The Real World,” considered the Og of reality TV. Others may disagree, but no doubt, Ayto is one of the most entertaining dating shows you’ll watch.

If you’re a fan or someone interested in diving into this dating series, you probably have some questions. What’s Ayto been up to these days? Was the show paused due to the pandemic?...

LAPD Announces Task Force To Combat String Of “Follow-Home Robberies” After Good Samaritan Is Killed On Sunset Blvd.
Image
Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore announced today that the LAPD will create a task force to address a string of “follow-home robberies,” some of which have targeted celebrities.

The announcement comes in the hours after a man was shot and killed outside the Bossa Nova Restaurant, in the 7100 block of Sunset Boulevard, at 2:10 a.m. this morning. Moore said he believed the shooting was tied to the growing list of follow-home robberies, in which thieves follow home people who are wearing high-end jewelry or have expensive vehicles or other valuable belongings.

Moore said the 23-year-old victim who was shot and killed this morning was “coming to the aid of a female who was being attacked.”

The most high-profile of the recent follow-home robberies occurred at the residence of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Dorit Kemsley in late October. Kemsley said she was home, her children asleep upstairs...

Netflix Acquires Academy Award-Nominated ‘Two Distant Strangers’ And Adds To Its Lead At The Oscars
Image
With an impressive leading haul this year of 35 Oscar nominations (a streamer record), Netflix apparently wanted more and just pushed that number to 36, saying Thursday that it has acquired the Live Action Short nominee Two Distant Strangers.

The film, written by Emmy winner Travon Free and directed by Free and Martin Desmond Roe, revolves around the repeated attempts by cartoonist Carter James (played by rapper Joey Bada$$) to get home to his dog as he is thwarted by a recurring deadly encounter that forces him — in a twist on movies from Groundhog Day to Palm Springs — to relive the same awful day over and over again (check out the trailer above).

Having seen the film earlier this year it could not be more timely, especially in the light of events surrounding the death of George Floyd and numerous others in the Black community. With the deal, Two Distant Strangers begins streaming April 9 on Netflix.

“When we set out to create this short in the middle of the simultaneous pandemic and social justice crises, we didn’t know what to expect,” Free and Roe said in a statement. “But in just five days, we pulled off the nearly impossible to make this incredible film. And all of us have been so filled with gratitude to see so many people responding to this story of resilience and perseverance. ‘Two Distant Strangers’ tackles a tough subject for everyone but in an effort to forge a new direction in the conversation.
