Bridgerton’s Most Elusive Man Might’ve Outsmarted Everyone With a Genius Plot
Image
Dear esteemed readers and members of the Ton, you should be no stranger to some of the most absurd Bridgerton fan theories. One such theory is daring to ask what no one has: what if Viscount Edmund Bridgerton (Rupert Evans) is alive? We know he died because of a deadly bee sting when Lady Violet (Ruth Gemmell) was pregnant with Hyacinth.

But what if it was all a big ruse to escape the never-ending, gossip-mongering, promenade circles of the ton? What if all these years, Viscount Edmund has silently witnessed his family grow and evolve from a distance?

It’s a far stretch, but we know how TV show adaptations often deviate from their source material, breaking all logic. Case in point: Bridgerton Season 3 Episode 7. Let us take you down a rabbit hole of speculation as we dissect what a faked death for the Viscount could mean for the Ton.

How a Cinderella Story Led Days’ AnnaLynne McCord to Her Daytime Emmy Nomination
Image
On Days of Our Lives, the character of Cat Greene has come to life since being revealed as an Isa Analyst. But it took a while for the evolution to happen, with bumps and triumphs along the way. AnnaLynne McCord, who plays Cat, has quite a resume, having worked in TV and film since 2002. The 2025 Daytime Emmy nominee recently opened up about her journey to soap opera stardom.

She Thrives Under Soap Pressure

McCord sat down with Digital Journal and discussed her career in depth. She revealed that working in the intense environment of a soap opera was good for her. Soaps tend to crank out episodes with over 40 pages of scripts to film per day. And hardly any rehearsal time. The actress explained that she’s been able to use her photographic memory to her advantage in memorizing the heavy amounts of dialogue.

She’s also a bit of a perfectionist,...

Jennifer Lopez Is Developing a Cinderella Musical Series With a Magical Twist for Disney+
Image
Over the years, Cinderella has had many adaptations. The folk story of a young girl living in unfortunate circumstances and blessed with a life-changing decision after marrying has been around for centuries, although it's mostly famous thanks to the Disney adaptation.

Cinderella was adapted into opera, theater, musicals, films, and TV. Walt Disney entered the conversation in 1950, giving the character, who is now considered one of the Disney Princesses, her first adaptation. Jennifer Lopez has been interested in a new version of the story for years, and she is now partnering with Disney+ for a new version, Deadline reports.

Lopez has been attached to the limited series based on Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella since May 2022. The singer and actress' production company, Nuyorican Productions, was working with Skydance Television and Concord Originals. The same production companies are still attached to the project, which has now officially landed at Disney+.

‘The Ugly Stepsister’ (2025) and the Cost of Becoming ‘Beautiful Enough’
Image
Amongst Hillary Duff and Stephen Sondheim songs, a new comedy-horror has entered the world of Cinderella re-tellings. Written and directed by Emile Blichfeldt, “The Ugly Stepsister” is a grim but charming tale of Cinderella through one of the stepsisters’ points of view. This sister’s name is Elvira, and in addition to the story being told from her point of view, it revises the character’s disposition. Blichfeldt uses Elvira to represent the waning deterioration of a girl’s innocence under a monarchical patriarchy.

The concept alone is delightfully insightful, given that the classic Cinderella story is associated with adolescent girlhood, making for exceptional source material. It would be easy to lean into a cliche parody with this adaptation, but it is delightfully elaborate with its approach, even while still incorporating humour. Despite the deep, endless well of adaptations, this film managed to float to the top with its exceptional quality and premise.

‘I Still Know What You Did Last Summer’ Has Slasher Fans Nostalgic for… Jack Black in Dreads?
Image
On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark honors fringe cinema in the streaming age with midnight movies from any moment in film history.

First, the Bait: a weird genre pick and why we’re exploring its specific niche right now. Then, the Bite: a spoiler-filled answer to the all-important question, “Is this old cult classic actually worth recommending?”

The Bait: Hook. Line. Stinker. In a Fun Way!

Warning: The following contains spoilers for “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (2025)

I genuinely want to know if anyone warned Jack Black about the post-credits scene in the new “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” He’s not in it, but it’s sure to draw attention to a mostly forgotten misfire from much earlier in the “Minecraft Movie” actor’s career.

Black was 29 years old when he played Titus Telesco, a white Bahamian pool boy with a weed habit and dreads.

I Know What You Did Last Summer's Mid-Credits Scene Pays Perfect Homage To A Terrible Movie
Image
This article contains spoilers for 2025's "I Know What You Did Last Summer."

When "I Know What You Did Last Summer" debuted in 1997, it was met with a mixed reception by critics, but brought in a Billy Blue-sized boatload of cash at the box office. A $17 million shooting budget nabbed $125.3 million before enjoying a sizable chunk of change thanks to the still-booming home video rental market. A sequel was inevitable, and just over a year later, "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" hit theaters. Although boasting a 10% on Rotten Tomatoes isn't something to write home about, it was still a financial success.

Unfortunately, the sequel's less-than-stellar reception didn't help launch the series into a formidable franchise. The direct-to-video sequel "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer" arrived nearly a decade after the party was over, and the Prime Video series adaptation from 2021 was canceled after just one season.

Emma Watson Dodged One Classic Role and Scored a $1.2B Upgrade Two Years Later

Known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise, Emma Watson took the center stage when she was just 11 years old. Having her final portrayal of Miss Granger in the 2011 film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, the actress went on to star in other notable films.

The actress has been in the news since she was banned from driving for six months back in July 2024 (via BBC) after she received a speeding ticket for driving 38 mph in a 30 mph zone. Well, although she received her speeding ticket, her Hollywood career has been stagnant for a while.

Speaking of her Hollywood career, Emma Watson was once offered the lead role in the 2015 movie Cinderella, an offer she refused, only to star in the role of Bella two years later in the 2017 movie, Beauty and the Beast.

Unwrapping Christmas: Mia’s Prince Review – A Gift-Wrapped Romance Worth Unwrapping
Image
The snow falls with fairy tale precision in “Unwrapping Christmas: Mia’s Prince,” where romance novels bleed into reality through the sheer force of a dreamer’s will. Mia, proprietor of “All Wrapped Up,” exists in that liminal space between the pragmatic demands of small business ownership and the intoxicating pull of literary escapism.

Her obsession with “Christmas in Derbyshire” becomes the film’s central metaphor—a woman so steeped in fictional romance that she begins to manifest its archetypes in her waking life. The second installment in this holiday series finds its protagonist literally sleeping among the wrapping paper and ribbons of her shop when fate arrives in the form of Beau, a man desperately seeking late-night gift-wrapping services.

What begins as a chance encounter transforms into the kind of class-conscious romance that would make Jane Austen nod in recognition. The Cinderella dynamics are unmistakable: the working-class shopkeeper and the heir to vast wealth,...

Move Over Mickey, Another Classic Children’s Character Is Getting a Bloody Makeover With New Two-Part Horror Film
Image
We live in a time when classic characters are getting horror makeovers to the extent that it’s fast becoming their own sub-genre. The trend started with Winnie the Pooh coming into the public domain and turning into Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey which saw some success and turned up a universe in two years. Since then, any classic character that comes into or already exists in the public domain is getting twisted treatment, be it Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, Bambi, or Peter Pan. Joining the ranks is Aladdin.

Bloody Disgusting reports, a two-part twisted take featuring the iconic Arabian Nights character is in the works. B22 Films is making Aladdin and Aladdin’s Revenge, which will present a darker take on the Middle Eastern folktale. The movie is written and directed by Brett Bentman, known for horror titles like Bull Shark, Meteor, Foreclosure, and more. The first of the two features,...

The Complete Once Upon A Time Family Tree Explained
Image
Hard as it may be to believe, it's been nearly 15 years as of writing since the first episode of "Once Upon a Time" aired on ABC in the fall of 2011. The series was a stroke of genius from "Lost" alums Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, who harnessed the endlessly engrossing mystery box elements of the former program for a story that not only smashed together all the classic fairy tales viewers grew up with, but twisted them in surprising ways.

As is now expected of a show of this kind -- especially one that runs without a clear endpoint in sight -- constant reveals of secret identities, children, and parentages created a ludicrously confusing family tree that was further warped by retcons, alternate realities, and re-written timelines. Fortunately, it didn't take a cursed dagger or magical pen for us to make sense of it all, as we set out to...

Russell Crowe Fans Have Less Than 48 Hours to Watch These Two Fan-Favorite Dramas

July is coming in like a wrecking ball for Russell Crowe fans, as two of the actor’s most underappreciated films—Cinderella Man and Body of Lies—are set to leave Prime Video on July 1, so if you want to take a moment to remind yourself why Crowe has always been considered one of the biggest powerhouse actors in the game, you'd best be quite before both titles vanish into the streaming ether.

Illegal Baby Names
Image
Names are more than just labels, they reflect culture, identity, and values. However, around the world, some names are so controversial, bizarre, or disruptive that governments have declared them illegal. From names that mimic royalty to ones loaded with profanity or political tension, countries (and U.S. states) set naming laws to protect children from ridicule or harm.

What’s accepted in one culture might be a banned name in another. In Iceland, for example, names must fit native grammar rules, while New Zealand draws a hard line at names like “Violence” or “Sex Fruit.” Germany requires that a name clearly reflect a person’s gender. Some countries even maintain approved name lists, rejecting any name that’s not on their list – or an “official name listing” like BabyNames.com. These bans might sound strict or even silly, but they’re often intended to safeguard a child’s dignity.

In the United States,...

‘Bridgerton’ Season 4's Leading Lady Reveals the Specific Thing That Helped Her Get in Character
Image
Connecting with a character that, for example, lives in another time period, can be quite the undertaking for an actor. When it comes to Bridgerton's Yerin Ha, the actress shared which two pieces of her character, Sophie Baek, allowed her to slip into character for the upcoming fourth season of the Regency-era Netflix drama. In an interview with Glamour, Ha revealed that it's "Sophie’s apron and headpiece immediately put me in her mind space." She says, "just having the weight of that on my head helps me get into her character." The upcoming season of Bridgerton will adapt the third book in the Julia Quinn book series: An Offer From a Gentleman. Ha is Season 4's leading lady, opposite Luke Thompson returning as Benedict Bridgerton.

Bridgerton Season 4 Filming Wrap Announced In BTS Video With A Penelope Detail That Has Fans Excited
Image
Netflix has celebrated Bridgerton season 4's production wrap with a new BTS video, featuring a blink-and-you'll miss-it detail about Penelope's continued role in the story. Bridgerton season 4 will finally put second son Benedict (Luke Thompson) in the romantic spotlight, as he falls in love with a mysterious masked woman at his mother's famous masquerade ball. Though Benedict and his Cinderella-esque love, Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), will be the biggest focus of Bridgerton's and London's upcoming season, the rest of the Bridgerton clan will still have their parts to play, too.

This includes Nicola Coughlan's Penelope, who found her happy ending with Benedict's younger brother, Colin (Luke Newton), in Bridgerton season 3. The Bridgerton season 4 BTS wrap video shows nearly all the show's major cast members, including newcomers like Yerin Ha, Michelle Mao, Isabella Wei, Katie Leung, and Masali Baduza, changing from their elaborate Regency-era costumes into their present-day (and infinitely more comfortable) clothes.

Video: Cole Escola Talks Tony Awards Bernadette Peters Tribute on Late Night With Seth Meyers
Image
Following their Tony win for Oh, Mary!, Cole Escola visited Late Night with Seth Meyers this week to discuss the honor, the continued success of the play, and what it is like watching other actors take on the iconic role of Mary Todd Lincoln. During the Tonys, Escola paid tribute to Bernadette Peters with an outfit resembling the one that she wore at the 1999 ceremony. "This was a formative gown for me," explained Escola of Peters's outfit. "A formative moment of, 'Wow, she's the most beautiful woman in the world.' And so, if this was my 'Cinderella goes to the ball one night,' I want to look as perfect as possible." Escola also recalled the first time they watched Betty Gilpin play...

Jonathan Bailey's Bridgerton Season 4 Update Seemingly Confirms One Major Show Change From Benedict's Book
Image
Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey has potentially confirmed the show's upcoming season will include a major relationship milestone that was missing from Benedict's original story. Second son Benedict's (Luke Thompson) world is about to be turned upside down, as he falls in love with a Cinderella-like mystery woman, Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), at his mother's masquerade ball. As ever, though, Bridgerton season 4 will feature the various members of the Bridgerton family, including Bailey's Viscount, Anthony Bridgerton, and his wife, Kate, the Viscountess (Simone Ashley).

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bailey confirmed that he was happy to return to Bridgerton for as long as they'll have him, a welcome piece of news considering Daphne Bridgerton's (Phoebe Dynevor) absence from the show in season 3. Bailey explained that he felt a "real sense of brotherly pride" while working on the show and accidentally let slip that he had...

“I just don’t give a sh*t”: Star Trek Actor Reflects on How He Let a DC Movie ‘Willfully Emasculate’ His Image
Image
Star Trek’s Captain Kirk has always been the symbol of masculinity in the ‘60s era. The way he talks and takes charge was seen as a representation of the ideal man of that age, and William Shatner’s performance added a lot to this identity. So, when Chris Pine came into the role, he tried to do his best to break it and not make it toxic.

Pine has since made it his mission to break such stereotypes. The actor played a father who was willing to be the butt of the joke in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Theives, and he poked fun at ultra-masculine cult leaders in Don’t Worry, Darling. Perhaps his biggest exploration in this space was his role as Steve Trevor in DC’s Wonder Woman.

Blu-ray Review: Mitchell Leisen’s Screwball Comedy ‘Midnight’ on the Criterion Collection
Image
The title of Mitchell Leisen’s classic 1939 screwball comedy Midnight is a clear allusion to Cinderella, foreshadowing the penniless American showgirl Eve Peabody’s (Claudette Colbert) inevitable entry into high society. It’s within the opening 10 minutes that Eve will meet her prince—or rather, two of them. First, she’s whisked away by the cabbie Tibor Czerny (Don Ameche), with whom she shares an instant attraction as he takes her to some working-class hotspots around Paris before she accidentally finds herself being escorted into a socialite’s swanky party. It’s there, during a game of bridge, that she captures the attention of the wealthy playboy Jacques Picot (Francis Lederer), much to the chagrin of his lover, Helene (Mary Astor), and to the delight of her husband, Georges Flammarion (John Barrymore), who sees Eve, the charming imposter, as the means to breaking up his wife’s affair.

As with many a screwball comedy,...

This Day That Year: More Rouge Than Moulin – The Wacky World Of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom
Image
In another installment of his great series This Day That Year, Subhash K Jha revisits the wacky world of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.

Everybody in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom which clocks 18 years today, including the director, is an impossible imposter. Abhishek Bachchan poses as a small-town guy in love with a ver-r-r-y poised and sexy Pakistani-French mademoiselle from Paris. Preity Zinta poses as a modern-day Cinderella with a very posh British-Indian fiancee. Bobby Deol, a nerd-optician poses as a cyber-Superman.

Lara Dutta, God bless her luscious presence, is a tart masquerading as a prima donna. Director Shaad Ali poses as an auteur with the wickedly audacious sense of humour of a comic-book aficionado. While the audience, not to be left behind, is supposed to pretend that it finds the bizarre goings-on hilarious.

But sorry, no go. This is Bunty without the bubbly. The joke, if any, is on the creator of this...

Masters Of The Universe Actor Sam C. Wilson Shares Teasing Glimpse Of His Trap Jaw Look
Image
Though we've yet to see anything particularly revealing so far, Masters of the Universe supporting cast members have been sharing behind-the-scenes photos from their time working on the live-action adaptation to social media, and we now have a teasing first glimpse of Sam C. Wilson as one of He-Man's most recognizable foes, Trap Jaw.

As you can see, Wilson only posted a close-up shot of his eye, but the image does confirm that Skeletor's "Wizard of Weapons" will retain his green-skinned face (whether he'll also have the blue body remains to be seen) from the original animated series.

Trap Jaw, or Trapjaw as he was known in the subsequent animated shows, was a criminal named Kronis who arrived to Eternia from another dimension. The 2002 animated series ret-conned his origin slightly to make him an enemy of Skeletor who lost his jaw and arm in a battle with the villain...

Red, White & Royal Blue Sequel Gets Exciting Update (& Fans Will Be Pleased)
Image
Nicholas Galitzine has starred as the perfect boyfriend in several films, whether it was alongside Sofia Carson in Netflix's Purple Hearts, Camila Cabello in Prime Video's take on Cinderella, and Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You, also on Prime Video. However, few films matched the love Red, White & Royal Blue got.

Red, White & Royal Blue is an adaptation of Casey McQuiston's 2019 bestselling novel of the same name. Immediately after release, the film stayed at the top of the charts for several weeks, and even drew a surge of new subscribers to Prime Video, which led Amazon MGM Studios to order a sequel. Speaking with AT&T at the Tribeca Festival, writer and director Matthew López gave an exciting update for the film that will leave fans happy.

This Day That Year: 10 Years Of Mohit Suri’s Hamari Adhuri Kahani
Image
Subhash K Jha revisits Mohit Suri’s Hamari Adhuri Kahani, which released in 2015 and starred Emraan Hashmi, Rajkummar Rao and Vidya Balan in this edition of his series This Day That Year.

Mohit Suri’s film about love during times of no red or green flags was mauled, lynched, and savaged. Looking back at the film, I feel compelled to wonder why it has been so violently rejected by critics. Could it be because the film raises some uncomfortable questions and issues related to an India that we’ve blanked out of the shining new India that we want the world to see?

This other not-so-shining India subsumes a societal structure based on and run by rules of gender inequality, where girls grow up accepting themselves as the second sex. This is not to say that this line of thought in the patriarchal set-up is in any way morally desirable.

Studio Ghibli’s Women Gave Me Something Disney Never Did
Image
I grew up with Disney. You probably did too. And if you did, then you’re familiar with the drill: be cute, sing about your dreams, suffer a bit, then Bam, true love’s kiss and happily ever after. I mean, Ariel basically sacrificed her voice for a guy she saw once. Just once! Cinderella? She got a makeover, danced for three hours, and now she’s a queen. Belle fell in love with a furry guy with anger issues.

Look, I’m not saying Disney didn’t give us bangers (I still cry at Reflection), but let’s get real, those fairy tales pretty much taught us that life begins when some guy says, “Hey, you’re really special.” Then I stumbled into the world of Studio Ghibli. And guess what? It was like someone turned the lights on in my brain.

In Studio Ghibli films, romance exists, but it’s never the focus,...

Netflix's Movie Retelling Of Hunchback Of Notre Dame Casts Quasimodo
Image
Netflix's The Hunchback of Notre Dame movie, titled Quasimodo, has reportedly found its Quasimodo and will begin filming this summer. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is originally the 19th-century gothic novel by Victor Hugo (also the author of Les Misérables) about a bell-ringer at the famous at Paris’ famous Notre Dame cathedral who falls in love with the Roma dancer Emserelda. Today, the most well-known adaptation is arguably the animated version by Disney, which significantly changed the story from the source material to be presented to the typical family-inclusive audience.

While Disney previously had plans for its own Hunchback of Notre Dame live-action remake, which would presumably be based on the studio's own movie, Netflix is working on Quasimodo and has just announced that Vincent Cassel will be taking on the lead role (via Deadline). Cassel will thus be collaborating with Jean-Francois Richet as the director and Eric Besnard as the screenwriter.

Why Russia Is Trying To Ban The Shrek Franchise
Image
Yes, this is real.

According to a recent report in the Moscow Times, Russian lawmakers have targeted Shrek, the ogre, for potential censorship after he was deemed to be having a "destructive impact" on Russian children. Shrek was a monstrous character first introduced in the 1990 picture book "Shrek!" by William Steig. The book was adapted into a satirical feature film in 2001, altering Steig's story into a pointed anti-Disney story about fairy tale characters who become victims of forced relocation. Shrek, voiced by Mike Myers, was the antihero forced to perform heroic tasks in order to get other fairy tale creatures out of his yard. "Shrek" was an enormous success, and spawned a massive media franchise that remains active to this day; "Shrek 5" is due in theaters in 2026.

One can watch a video of higher-ups in the Russian government having a brainstorming session/slide show about the influence of world media on the Russian population,...

The Lunar Chronicles Movie Trilogy: Everything We Know So Far
Image
Fantasy and animation are a perfect match that, for whatever reason, Hollywood has yet to fully tap into. Sure, there are plenty of animated fairy tale movies; they used to be Disney's bread and butter, after all. However, when it comes to more serious, high fantasy animated films, they are severely lacking, with "The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim" being the rare exception (one that married the epic "Lord of the Rings" universe with anime).

This is not to say there aren't other examples, but they are rare enough that any announcement involving a new animated fantasy movie is exciting. Case in point, Warner Bros. Animation and Locksmith Animation are working to bring Marissa Meyer's best-selling book series "The Lunar Chronicles" to the big screen as a trilogy of animated features — and the first book already has a release date.

This is an interesting move on behalf of Warner Bros.
