1 Upcoming Horror Copying A 2019 Movie's Plot Makes Both Stories Even Better
Image
Late Night with the Devil and The Cleansing Hour both feature broadcasts taken over by supernatural beings. The films share common themes but are set in different time periods. The similarities between the movies make them an ideal double feature, highlighting timeless horror elements.

The upcoming horror film Late Night with the Devil shares some broad strokes and thematic elements with 2019's The Cleansing Hour, but the similarities make both movies even better. Written and directed by Colin and Cameron Cairnes, Late Night with the Devil focuses on Jack Delroy (David Dastmalchian), the host of late-night talk show Night Owls. Set in the 1970s, Delroy tries to combat falling ratings by bringing on a spooky panel of guests for a Halloween taping, including the potentially demonically possessed Lilly (Ingrid Torelli).

Directed by Damien LeVeck, The Cleansing Hour takes place in the modern-day and focuses on a livestream produced by best...

‘A Creature Was Stirring’ Review
Image
Stars: Chrissy Metz, Annalise Basso, Scout Taylor-Compton, Connor Paolo | Written by Shannon Wells | Directed by Damien LeVeck

I wasn’t going to review A Creature Was Stirring. After The Sacrifice Game, There’s Something in the Barn, Nightmare on 34th Street and Santa Isn’t Real, I was pretty well played out on Christmas horror films. But then I noticed it was directed by Damien LeVeck whose other feature was The Cleansing Hour, one of the better recent paranormal investigator films., based on that I decided to give it a look.

“We just have to keep this up until it breaks” Faith tells her daughter Charm, only to be met with the reply “The blizzard or me?” Looking at the assortment of syringes, pills and a rectal thermometer laid out on the kitchen counter that response seemed anything but snarky.

Then she leads her upstairs to her room and locks her in,...

Video Interview: Scout Taylor-Compton and Director Damien LeVeck Discuss Their New Holiday Horror Film A Creature Was Stirring
Image
Seeking shelter from a blizzard during Christmastime, two hikers (played by Scout Taylor-Compton and Connor Paolo) get more than they bargained for when they break into the house of a mother (Chrissy Metz) and her daughter (Annalise Basso), who are harboring a transformative—and deadly—secret in the new (and very aptly named) holiday horror film A Creature Was Stirring.

An eerily unpredictable and intensely entertaining gift for horror fans to unwrap this holiday season, A Creature Was Stirring is coming to theaters on December 8th and Digital on December 12th via Well Go USA.

In a new video interview, Daily Dead had the great pleasure of catching up with star Scout Taylor-Compton and director Damien LeVeck to discuss the making of their ambitious new movie, from Shannon Wells' impressive script and the movie's exploration of damaging addictions to bringing the film's haunting creature to life with palpable practical effects...

‘A Creature Was Stirring’ Review – Christmas Horror Movie Struggles to Execute Its Admirable Ideas
Image
The differences between Damien LeVeck’s sophomore effort A Creature Was Stirring and his feature debut The Cleansing Hour are staggering. His instincts are ironclad in the cleanly polished and despicable exorcism thriller that stands as one of Shudder’s best original releases in 2020. Unfortunately, A Creature Was Stirring doesn’t replicate the same accomplished approach as an ambitious yet scattershot blast of subgenres. Psychological chills, creature thrills, and family dysfunction become this unfocused commentary on the looming specter of addiction. LeVeck takes risk after risk — the filmmaker’s fearlessness should not be ignored — but there’s a befuddling all-over-the-place-ness that does not play into the film’s favor.

Chrissy Metz (of This Is Us fame) stars as the seemingly single mother Faith, who we meet barricaded inside with her daughter Charm (Annalise Basso) during a lethal blizzard. Now, Charm suffers from some affliction that Faith uses her nursing background...

Best Exorcism Horror Movies Of All Time
Image
For every great exorcism-themed horror movie, there are a handful of forgettable ones. Despite this lopsided equation, possession movies are still popular, with recent releases like The Pope’s Exorcist and Evil Dead Rise having success in theaters and on streaming platforms.

While many exorcism-themed horror movies can turn audiences off, the scariest in the genre stand out for their compelling stories, top-notch performances, terrifying jump scares, and genuine thrills. Hit movies from this genre, like The Conjuring and The Exorcist, have a tangible sense of realism that haunts audiences long after the film is over.

Updated October 9, 2023, by Anthony Jeanetta. With The Exorcist: Believer, fans of possession and exorcism movies have yet another high-profile film in these genres to explore. This list is updated to include more of the best and scariest exorcism-themed horror movies.
