My Chemical Romance Pays Tribute To Drummer Bob Bryar
Image
Rock band My Chemical Romance paid tribute to former drummer Bob Bryar following his death.

“It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Bob Bryar, our former bandmate and an important part of the history of My Chemical Romance,” band members Gerard Way (lead vocalist), Ray Toro (lead guitarist), Frank Iero (rhythm guitarist) and Mikey Way (bassist) wrote in a joint statement posted to Instagram alongside a photo of Bryar performing.

Bryar had the distinction of being the influential group’s longest-tenured drummer, serving MCR from 2004 to 2010. MCR eventually disbanded in 2013, reuniting in 2019 for a tour, new material, additional festival performances and a forthcoming 2025 stadium tour. Meanwhile, Bryar retired from drumming in 2021, and MCR has not replaced his spot with a full-time drummer since his departure.

“We send our deepest condolences to his friends and family at this time,” the statement continued. “May he rest in peace.

15 Awesome Music Videos That Ripped Off Famous Movies & TV Shows
Image
Music often plays an integral part in film and TV, but for these 15 songs film and TV played an integral part in their music videos, with the clips paying homage to (or simply ripping off) popular shows and movies. While the golden age of music videos is arguably a thing of the past, it's still a medium that deserves to be celebrated for its ability to tell effective stories. However, in these cases, the story being told was actually found elsewhere - in big and small screen productions that came before.

Artists ranging from My Chemical Romance to Ariana Grande have referenced popular films and TV shows in their music videos. The range of movies and shows parodied is equally as wide-ranging, including '90s sketch shows, '80s sci-fi epics, and '00s teen rom-coms, proving that inspiration can come from the unlikeliest of sources to make something truly memorable.

Are Umbrella Academy's Hargreeves Siblings Based On My Chemical Romance? Real-Life Inspiration Explained
Image
Gerard Way is both the lead singer of the rock band My Chemical Romance and the author of the graphic novels turned Netflix television series The Umbrella Academy, which ultimately makes audiences wonder whether the band inspired any of the comic book. The Umbrella Academy began as a graphic novel series and, in 2019, became a television series on Netflix. It currently has three seasons with a fourth and final season confirmed and coming in late 2023 or early 2024.

Although My Chemical Romance and The Umbrella Academy have some major differences between them, it's hard not to wonder if one was informed by the other. Having both been led by Gerard Way, it seems inevitable that some similarities would appear between the two. For example, both the band and the graphic novels have darkness to them and themes of identity within a vast, sometimes difficult world. Overall, these similarities and differences lead...

Musicians on Musicians: Kevin Parker & Billy Corgan

Kevin Parker remembers hearing his older brother play Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream when they were growing up in Perth, Australia. “It was like an indescribable cross between optimistic and sad music,” says Parker. “All my friends were into Rage Against the Machine. Siamese Dream was my internal headspace album, I guess.”

That 1993 album helped inspire Parker to start making songs as Tame Impala, a solo project that has since grown into one of the biggest rock acts in the world, blending hazy guitars, disco beats, and huge pop melodies. That success has helped Parker,...

DC to Shutter Vertigo and Other Imprints
John Saavedra Jun 21, 2019

Legendary adult-oriented DC imprint, Vertigo Comics, will close down by January 2020.

The iconic comics imprint that brought readers The Sandman, Preacher, Hellblazer, Fables, Y: The Last Man, and others will close its doors in 2020. According to THR, DC Comics plans to shutter Vertigo Comics, as well as young adult imprints DC Zoom and DC Ink, starting in January.

Replacing them will be three, age-specific imprints: DC Kids for ages 8-12, DC for 13 and up, and the adult-oriented DC Black Label for readers 17 and older. Series currently running under DC Zoom, Ink, and Vertigo will be integrated into these new imprints. This means that series like Sandman Universe, which expands the world of the Vertigo's most famous character, may live on under Black Label. Additionally, projects previously announced for Black Label before the restructure will still be published by the imprint.

THR reports that DC's pop-up labels,...

"We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure." Well that adventure has been over for five years now, and the ghost of MCR still haunts us to this day. Good Charlotte’s Second Act: Inside Madden Brothers’ Pop-Punk Reawakening

When Good Charlotte reunites, the paparazzi follow. The band, led by twin talents Benji and Joel Madden, played an intimate comeback gig at Los Angeles’ famed Troubadour in late November. Not bad for an early-2000s pop-punk revival.

My Chemical Romance Splits
New York — The chemistry is over: rock outfit My Chemical Romance has disbanded.

The New Jersey-based band announced Saturday that "it has come time for it to end." The foursome thanked fans in a statement and said the experience was "a true blessing."

My Chemical Romance's sound is a mix of alternative, punk rock and pop. Band members released their debut album in 2002 but really made a splash on the music scene in 2004 with the platinum-selling "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge." It featured the top-40 hit "Helena."

They followed that with another platinum effort in 2006, "The Black Parade," earning their first top-10 pop hit with the song "Welcome to the Black Parade."

The group said they've "shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends."

Group members included vocalist Gerard Way, bassist Mikey Way and guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero.

10 Stalled Film & TV Adaptations That We Want To See Made
At any given moment in the nebulous world of big studio film production there are as many phantoms floating around as there are solid movies made. Regardless of whether these loosely connected collections of ideas, scripts, and attached names ever find a home and a green light, these potential projects permeate production offices, studio meetings, agents’ agendas as well as blogs and news sites just like this.

Of these phantoms, those that draw the most passionate feedback, whether they spark hope for the possibility of seeing a childhood memory brought to life on the big screen or threaten to rip apart the internet under the weight of fans’ collective rage, are those that are adapted from works of science fiction and fantasy. These adaptations continue to be the go to projects of many producers due to the burgeoning success of the genres in film and television (thanks to the floodgate...

6 New Comic Series To Look Out For in Early 2012
2011 was a hectic year for comics. We lost the creators of two of the most recognizable comic book characters ever. The comic books not many people knew about continued to be the best. DC hit the reboot button on a scale not seen since Crisis on Infinite Earths. Marvel……didn’t seem to do anything different, giving us yet another reboot of the X-Men franchise (they seem to happen every two years now), and killing Thor and Bucky. Again. Though they did let Jonathan Hickman’s imagination run wild in Secret Warriors, S.H.I.E.L.D., Ff, and Ulimates. Thats a good thing.

With the year nearly behind us, it’s time to cast our eye over the releases of 2012 (well, the first quarter anyway), and see what’s in store to come…

Saga (Image Comic)

Brian K. Vaughn has created some very diverse series’ in his 14 years as a comic book writer.

It's either Gordon Ramsay night or Misery Night or, if you're on one of Gordon Ramsay's shows, it's both! There's also some season finales signaling the beginning of the August doldrums of television shows where everything is in reruns or some lame show that the network decided to dump at the end of summer because they knew everyone would be either too hot to care or busily making vacation plans since they just realized it's goddamn August already. However, most of the season finales are for shows that I haven't seen any chatter about here anyway ("Basketball Wives" anyone?) so I hope none of you are adversely affected. Anyway, here's your Monday night TV:

8:00pm: "Bachelor Pad" on ABC. Three hour second season premiere. Wait, second season? I think my brain erased all previous memories of this show because I literally had no clue that it existed before...

My Chemical Romance Bring The Killjoys To Life In L.A.
Band thunders through fierce set in Los Angeles.

By James Montgomery

My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way performs at the House of Blues in Los Angeles on Monday

Photo: MTV

Los Angeles — "How are you tonight?" flame-haired frontman Gerard Way panted, five-songs into his band's set, which was streamed live on MTV.com from the House of Blues on Monday night. "We are My Chemical Romance and it's very amazing to be back."

It was sort of an odd thing to say, and not just because he was asking a rhetorical question (since it was pretty clear that everyone in attendance was doing quite well). But rather, because My Chemical Romance really haven't been My Chemical Romance for a while now ... instead, as any private in the MCRmy can tell you, they've been masquerading as the freedom-fighting, oft-dying Killjoys, titular heroes of the band's brand-new Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys album,...

My Chemical Romance's Danger Days: A Cheat Sheet
Band went through a lot of changes while making the just-released album.

By James Montgomery

My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way

Photo: Warner Bros.

My Chemical Romance's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys is, on the surface, yet another concept album from a band that seemingly makes nothing but concept albums. It's a daring, DayGlo-addled story about a band of outlaws — that would be, of course, the titular Killjoys — battling an oppressive corporation in a postapocalyptic future world (or something like that).

But if you dig a little deeper, past the costumes and car chases and down to the nuts and bolts of how it came to be, you quickly learn that Danger Days is a lot more than just a work of fiction. Its creation was, in all honesty, much stranger than anything frontman Gerard Way ever could have written.

Because, in the near two...

My Chemical Romance: Our Music Will Never Play in Elevator
My Chemical Romance will never have their music played in an elevator. The "Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)" group are on a mission to "polarize" people with their music, and because their tracks inspire different reactions in people, they know they won't end up as background music.

"We're a band that you love or hate. I think the worst thing to be as a band or artist is - well, you'd never hear us in an elevator," guitarist Frank Iero told Drowned In Sound. "You hear bands even that are out now, in elevators; because you're indifferent to it. But this band is so loved and so hated that we polarize people, and that's great."

The band lost drummer Bob Bryar earlier this year while they were making their latest album, "Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys" and Frank said...

My Chemical Romance's Mikey Way in their video for "Na Na Na"

Photo: Reprise

Early Thursday morning (October 14) — like, 12:01 a.m. early — My Chemical Romance's much-anticipated video for "Na Na Na" premiered on MTV.com. And we've basically spent every hour since re-watching it, combing through each frame and marveling at its breakneck pacing, sneering swagger and, well, hyperkinetic, hypercolor stylings.

Yes, "Na Na Na" is certainly a remarkable thing, an eye-catching, palpitation-inducing thrill ride (sort of like the album it's promoting) that's also incredibly clever, slightly goofy, and downright sly. See, much like other great videos of recent memory — like, say, Lady Gaga's "Telephone" — it's also chock-full of blink-and-you'll-miss-them nods to pop culture; too-clever odes to film, TV, toys and all...

This seemed odd for a number of reasons, chiefly the fact that frontman Gerard Way had recently been tweeting about the title of the album, hinting that he would be announcing it "in a special way this time ... maybe some sort of event."

Info about the new album's title and release date quickly began spreading, until bassist Mikey Way took to his Twitter to defuse the whole thing, writing that "the new album is not titled Midnight Curfew.

Celebrity Biography: My Chemical Romance
My Chemical Romance, whether you love them or hate them, are known by millions of people from all over the world. The name came from bassist Mikey Way when he was at his job in a bookstore.
