Nineteen years after My Chemical Romance’s most acclaimed album, The Black Parade, was released, the New Jersey emo-rock band brought a cinematic and theatrical performance of the album to Los Angeles.
Playing two sold-out shows at Dodger Stadium, Saturday night’s kickoff show was the band’s (known by fans as MCR or My Chem) first L.A. show since 2019. Long Live The Black Parade, MCR’s first stadium tour, was a theatrical affair.
The band — currently consisting of members Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Ray Toro and Frank Iero — played their 2006 hit emo-rock concept album, The Black Parade, in full, set against a backdrop best exampled in the tour’s teaser. The video’s description reads, “It has been seventeen years since The Black Parade was sent to the Moat. In that time, a great Dictator has risen to power, bringing about ‘The Concrete Age’; a glorious time of...

Few fandoms in the music genre have been as patient as My Chemical Romance fans, partly out of necessity. The band first broke up more than a decade ago, but listeners still held out hope that one day, they may just get back together for one last run. Thankfully, the long wait actually paid off in short bursts for MCR fans.
While it's been 11 years since My Chemical Romance disbanded, they first announced plans to reunite five years ago after a single show in Los Angeles in December 2019. That tour took another couple of years thanks to the pandemic, but when it came time, the world was reminded of our appetite for Gerard, Mikey, Frank and Ray's collective genius. Then, two years ago, MCR dropped their first single in 10 years, and it began to feel like the reunion might herald a rebirth in real terms, with more new music.

My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero has shared an emotional and layered tribute to former bandmate Bob Bryar, who was found dead in his home in Tennessee last week. In a lengthy Instagram post, Iero said he had “spent the past few days” reflecting on Bryar as the “person I knew him to be” and shared his memories of the drummer’s commitment to the craft, dark sense of humor, and love for animals, as well as their eventual falling out.
Describing Bryar as an “enigma of sorts” who “often inhabited both ends of any spectrum at the same time,” Iero wrote that “he was my friend and my bandmate, but he was also a stranger to me for most of my life.” However, the two were in intermittent contact after their shared time in the band together, with Bryar checking in on Iero’s family or trading “a meme...

Rock band My Chemical Romance paid tribute to former drummer Bob Bryar following his death.
“It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Bob Bryar, our former bandmate and an important part of the history of My Chemical Romance,” band members Gerard Way (lead vocalist), Ray Toro (lead guitarist), Frank Iero (rhythm guitarist) and Mikey Way (bassist) wrote in a joint statement posted to Instagram alongside a photo of Bryar performing.
Bryar had the distinction of being the influential group’s longest-tenured drummer, serving MCR from 2004 to 2010. MCR eventually disbanded in 2013, reuniting in 2019 for a tour, new material, additional festival performances and a forthcoming 2025 stadium tour. Meanwhile, Bryar retired from drumming in 2021, and MCR has not replaced his spot with a full-time drummer since his departure.
“We send our deepest condolences to his friends and family at this time,” the statement continued. “May he rest in peace.

Punk supergroup L.S. Dunes released their Lego-themed video for “Grey Veins” last month. Now, Lego has apparently contacted the band’s label Fantasy Records to remove the clip.
Frank Iero, of My Chemical Romance fame and a guitarist in L.S. Dunes, took to social media to issue a statement regarding Lego’s legal action. More than anything, Iero was offended that a company that encourages creativity such as Lego, of which he’s been a lifelong loyal customer, would try to stamp out one his own creative endeavors.
Along with photos of his Lego VIP card and pics from Legoland as proof of his dedication to the tiny bricks, Iero posted the following open letter to Lego on Twitter:
“Dear @lego, why are you having your lawyers call my record label (@fantasyrecords) and demand we take down the @LSDunes music video we made for our song Grey Veins?...

Gerard Way is both the lead singer of the rock band My Chemical Romance and the author of the graphic novels turned Netflix television series The Umbrella Academy, which ultimately makes audiences wonder whether the band inspired any of the comic book. The Umbrella Academy began as a graphic novel series and, in 2019, became a television series on Netflix. It currently has three seasons with a fourth and final season confirmed and coming in late 2023 or early 2024.
Although My Chemical Romance and The Umbrella Academy have some major differences between them, it's hard not to wonder if one was informed by the other. Having both been led by Gerard Way, it seems inevitable that some similarities would appear between the two. For example, both the band and the graphic novels have darkness to them and themes of identity within a vast, sometimes difficult world. Overall, these similarities and differences lead...

Welcome to the Black Parade: a depressing event we hold every year on the anniversary of My Chemical Romance's breakup. Their famous last words came on March 22, 2013, when they posted a heartfelt note on their Facebook. "Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing," they began. "We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure." Well that adventure has been over for five years now, and the ghost of MCR still haunts us to this day. “You’re carrying around some old man on your shoulders. Some demon’s got you deep in its clutches. He’ll follow you to the end.” For Max Bornstein, the end could come prematurely, as his heroin addiction, withholding of secrets from his family, and illegal dealings within the pornography industry take a terrible toll on his body and mind in Dynamite: A Cautionary Tale.
Set in 1970’s-era New York City, Dynamite: A Cautionary Tale is based on a true story. They followed that with another platinum effort in 2006, "The Black Parade," earning their first top-10 pop hit with the song "Welcome to the Black Parade."

That's according to guitarist Frank Iero, who revealed the info earlier this week in an interview with New Jersey's The Aquarian Weekly (MCR are one of the headliners at this weekend's Bamboozle fest in Asbury Park, New Jersey, replacing Blink-182) but was tight-lipped about pretty much everything else.

My Chemical Romance are set to return to the studio and begin work on the follow-up to 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, though they're keeping details of the project close to whatever kind of vest (Studded? Bandolier-ed? DayGlo?) they're wearing these days.
"It's going really well, I'm really excited," Iero said of the new album. "I can't wait to start tracking. I think we're...

My Chemical Romance, which will headline this weekend’s Bamboozle Festival in New Jersey on May 19, are headed back into the studio in a few weeks to begin recording the group’s fifth album. Guitarist Frank Iero told The Aquarian Weekly that the group was in Los Angeles writing away in preparation to start recording in June with producer Doug McKean. As we previously reported, MCR is stepping in at the last minute at Bamboozle to replace Blink-182 who had to drop out following drummer Travis Barker’s emergency tonsillectomy. The gig is breaking the band’s writing flow, but Iero says they are...

My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero has revealed that the band's next album will have a "vision". Iero explained that the group will soon record the follow-up to 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, and that it won't "just be a collection of songs". He told Noise11: "It can't just be a collection of songs. It's never going to be 'Oh, we had these 12 songs so record it real quick and we'll put them out!' "I don't think anyone can really do that these days without some sort of thought or vision behind it. If anything makes us want to stare out a rain-spattered window with mascara-stained tears running down our cheeks, it’s hearing that My Chemical Romance fired drummer Michael Pedicone. “The relationship between My Chemical Romance and Michael Pedicone is over,” the band’s guitarist Frank Iero posted on their site last Friday. “He was caught red handed stealing from the band and confessed to police after our show last night in Auburn, Washington.” Pedicone has been replaced, at least temporarily, by Jarrod Alexander of Dead Country, who is probably already sick of everyone else’s devastated sighs.
Continued Iero, “The band has no intention of pressing charges or taking this matter any further than we have to. We just want him out of our lives. The people who play in this band are a family, and family should not take advantage of each other like he did.” Michael Pedicone’s...

Less than a year after My Chemical Romance replaced drummer Bob Bryar, the band booted Michael Pedicone from the group after it was alleged that he stole from the band.
Pedicone, who joined MCR late in 2010 as their third drummer, was kicked out on Friday after an alleged incident the night before in Auburn, Washington, according to a posting on the band's official website.
"The relationship between My Chemical Romance and Michael Pedicone is over," read a post from guitarist Frank Iero. "He was caught red handed stealing from the band and confessed to police after our show last night in Auburn, Washington. We are heartbroken and sick to our stomachs over this entire situation. Pedicone joined the 'Famous Last Words' group for their ongoing Us tour with Blink-182 after previous drummer Bob Bryar quit in March 2010. My Chemical Romance have described their new album as "a missile directed at rock and roll". The group, who release their new album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys this week, also insist that they stand by descriptions they made of the LP before it was finished. In the four years between The Black Parade and Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, My Chemical Romance were no strangers to the grandiose statement. It seems that, in every interview they gave, the band found a new way to describe their (then upcoming) album, calling it everything from a "very pure" bit of punk rock to — most famously — "a love letter to rock and roll".
The end result, of course, was Danger Days, an album that is both of those things (and neither), often at the same time. And yet, it has basically been defined within those parameters. So, looking back on it now, do MCR regret anything they said in the lead-up to the album?

Los Angeles — "How are you tonight?" flame-haired frontman Gerard Way panted, five-songs into his band's set, which was streamed live on MTV.com from the House of Blues on Monday night. "We are My Chemical Romance and it's very amazing to be back."
It was sort of an odd thing to say, and not just because he was asking a rhetorical question (since it was pretty clear that everyone in attendance was doing quite well). But rather, because My Chemical Romance really haven't been My Chemical Romance for a while now ... instead, as any private in the MCRmy can tell you, they've been masquerading as the freedom-fighting, oft-dying Killjoys, titular heroes of the band's brand-new Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys album,...

Hollywood — My Chemical Romance went to the brink and back to make their new album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. So, as you can probably imagine, on Monday (November 22) — the day Killjoys hit stores — they were in the mood to celebrate.
And how did they go about doing that? By buying their album, of course.
"Me and Mikey [Way] went and bought it earlier today," guitarist Frank Iero laughed. "It's kind of a tradition."
And with their very own copies of the album in hand, MCR headed over to the House of Blues on Sunset Boulevard, where they'll throw a rather raucous album-release party — they set up a carnival and everything — and play a sold-out show for their fanatical MCRmy.

My Chemical Romance will never have their music played in an elevator. The "Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)" group are on a mission to "polarize" people with their music, and because their tracks inspire different reactions in people, they know they won't end up as background music.

In their near-decade of existence, My Chemical Romance has had plenty of rather huge moments: touring with Green Day, premiering the first single from their Black Parade album some 70 stories above New York City and covering Bob Dylan for the "Watchmen" soundtrack, just to name a few.
But according to the band themselves, all of those achievements pale in comparison to their sprawling, spastic video for "Na Na Na". To hear them tell it, just making the clip was the biggest achievement of their entire career ... because it capped a long journey back from the brink.
