Matt King

In The Dark episode 2 review
Louisa Mellor Jul 19, 2017

In The Dark’s second episode was an odd mixture of darkness and silliness. Spoilers ahead in our review…

This review contains spoilers.

See related Fantastic Four 2 still alive Fargo season 4 could be three years away Legion season 2: Saïd Taghmaoui to play Shadow King

I’ll say this before we start: crime drama absolutely needs more of dandy Matt King in a cravat airily making deductions about decomposed corpses, and winding up pig farmers. That’s a must. Give Philip the pathologist with a brain the size of a planet his own comedic spin-off in which he can go cottaging and summarily solve murders over bacon butties to his heart’s content.

But keep Phil far, far away from scenes in which MyAnna Buring brilliantly pulls herself inside out with raw pain. Matt King’s character may brighten up the place like a jazzy lamp, but...

9-Minute Video Essay Studies The Science Of Failure In Alexander Payne’s Films
Alexander Payne has made a successful career out of losers. Whether it’s Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick) in “Election,” Warren Schmidt (Jack Nicholson) in “About Schmidt,” Miles Raymond (Paul Giamatti) in “Sideways,” Matt King (George Clooney) in “The Descendents” or Woody Grant (Bruce Dern) in “Nebraska,” the writer/director has crafted a dependable niche focusing on the […]

From selfies to hilarious memes and epic rants, Facebook is a visual feast. But what's the social media experience like for the blind? A group of engineers at Facebook are now working to make the heavily visual site accessible for everyone - including those who can't see. Matt King and Jeff Wieland, two members of Facebook's accessibility team, are developing software to improve blind users' experiences with the photo-heavy website through object recognition technology. ‘Peep Show: Series Nine’ DVD Review
If I ever had a problem with Peep Show, it is that the characters aren’t particularly nice people. They like to think they are, particularly Mark (David Mitchell) with his snobbish selfish view on life and Jeremy (Robert Webb) …who is just Jeremy. In the end for me it’s the people like Super Hans (Matt King) who end up being more likable because he knows who he is, and just doesn’t give a damn.

Peep Show is a show that is built of uncomfortable humour based on the actions of a group of idiots, with the fact that the camera angles come from the actor’s viewpoints making it a little different than usual comedy shows. We get to hear their inner thoughts and get more of an insight into their actions. Whether you like the characters or not, this does make for interesting television.

Peep Show series 9 episode 6 review: Are We Going To Be Alright?

Peep Show stays true to nine series of brilliant comedic form in its finale. So are Mark and Jez going to be alright? Well...

A renowned novelist (well, an actor pretending to be a renowned novelist in Showtime’s The Affair) once said “if you’ve laid all your cards out in the proper order, the ending should flow. It should feel inevitable. At some point, fate takes over a story and even the author himself loses control.” If last week’s doom-tinged episode of Peep Show was the harbinger of a dark fate, this week saw the apocalypse itself unfold in all its lovely destructive glory. The End Times finally came to Peep Show and inevitably enough, with all the cards finally on the table we learnt that in the sad, self-absorbed lives of Mark and Jez, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Peep Show series 9 review: Gregory's Beard

Peep Show series 9 delivers another belter in Gregory's Beard, as Super Hans gets married and Jez ponders his sexuality...

This review contains spoilers.

9.2 Gregory’s Beard

Last week’s series opener didn’t just deliver in terms of quality; it also returned the El Dude Brothers to their familiar odd-couple dynamic. If anything could be said to be missing from that episode, perhaps it was the onslaught of sneering judgements that the duo regularly bestow upon each other. Instead, under the makeshift banner of a sort-of-truce, our two heroes formed a temporary alliance to return to a comfortable state of domestic unhappiness.

With the status quo restored, Peep Show let rip with a wonderful second episode that took full advantage of Mark and Jez’s return to acrimony as they took potshots at each other from vantage points of dubious superiority. The episode’s opening found them...

Dictionary.com Asks Social Media Stars To Define Neologisms
Each year, Dictionary.com adds new words, phrases, and proper nouns to its database. In 2015, the list includes chillax, respawn, and feels, but what do those words mean? What do they connote? In order to answer those questions, Dictionary.com enlisted a group of social media influencers, who offered up their personal definitions for this year’s neologisms.

To create the videos, Dictionary.com teamed up with Collab, which is best known for working with Vine stars. Collab turned to its roster of partners, including Meghan McCarthy, Lizzza, Harmony & Elliot, Matt King, Brock Baker, Rickey Thompson, and Jd Witherspoon, and turned them loose on the dictionary’s new words. The results are a mixed bag. Some of them are earnestly informative; others, such as the video describing “yaaas” (yes, that is a real word now), move more in the cringe comedy direction.

The videos were posted to Dictionary.com’s...

Peep Show is back on Channel 4 - one last time - from next month
The El Dude brothers are back in town, one last time, from next month.

Channel 4 has announced that the last ever series of Peep Show will begin on Wednesday, November 11 at 10pm.

The sitcom's ninth run will pick up some time after its eighth, which ended with Mark (David Mitchell) and Jeremy (Robert Webb) abandoned by Dobby (Isy Suttie) - despite both declaring their love for her.

As the final series begins, it really is the end of an era - Mark has a new flatmate and a new job working at a bank, while Jeremy has found himself some new - and rather constrictive - living quarters. When Jez turns to his old friend for a loan, Mark finally spies his chance for revenge...

All this, and the pair have to contend with a newly sober Super Hans (Matt King) - though it's unclear just how long his new health kick will last.

Neil Fitzmaurice hints at return of old faces in Peep Show series 9: 'Maybe one final kick in the nuts'
Neil Fitzmaurice has hinted that familiar faces will make some sort of return to Peep Show during its final series later this year.

The Mount Pleasant actor - who plays Mark's longtime foe Jeff in the Channel 4 comedy - told Digital Spy that he would "love to" come back at least one more time.

When asked if he'll return as Jeff in series nine, he said: "I can neither confirm nor deny! Let's just say that I hope so.

"Especially as Jeff has had such a wonderful ability to turn up just as Mark didn't think it could get any worse. There's a distinct possibility, let's say, that when Mark is down on his knees, Jeff may swing his head round the corner to give one final kick in the nuts.

"I would very much love to, but fingers crossed that for the final series some of the old faces will come back.

Jash Gets Weird(er) With ‘The Amazing Gayl Pile’
The Jash YouTube channel produced plenty of bizarre stuff in the first year of its existence, but an upcoming release may be the strangest Jash series yet. It's called The Amazing Gayl Pile, and it dives into the dark, violent world of home shopping. The Amazing Gayl Pile is produced by Toronto-based studio Larue Entertainment. It centers on its titular character, who works as a salesman for a home shopping network. We're not sure, from watch the initial teaser, where exactly things go wrong, but they most certainly do. The second half of the teaser portrays a home shopping world filled with "rampant sex, violence and spiritual corruption." Jash, the comedy hub that features Sarah Silverman, Reggie Watts, Michael Cera, and Tim & Eric, will serve as The Amazing Gayl Pile's distributor. "We are thrilled to be partnering with Jash for the release of The Amazing Gayl Pile," said Larue head Matt King.

Justin Bieber Outed As 'Chandler Bing,' So Here Are Some New Hotel Aliases
For any superstar, one of the great rites of passage is the practice of registering under a fake name at a hotel. Because some fans are both passionate and unscrupulous, a certain level of anonymity is required when traveling on the road. Professional athletes do it all the time (Michael Vick became somewhat notorious for using the pseudonym "Ron Mexico," most notably when getting treated for herpes at a clinic), and the alter-egos can stretch anywhere from late politicians to fictional characters. According to a report, 16-year-old Canadian singing sensation Justin Bieber prefers the latter, as he has been known to check into hotels as "Chandler Bing," which was the name of Matthew Perry's character on the long-running sitcom "Friends."

Of course, once an alias has been made, it has to be retired (because how many people are actually named Chandler Bing?), which is why Bieber will need to...

Actors We Miss: John Candy
Joe Flaherty and Andrea Martin in SCTV (1976)

Last Sunday would have been the 60th birthday of comedic actor John Candy, who died of a heart attack at the age of 43 while filming the movie 'Wagons East.' A lovable big lug who specialized in playing bumbling, goodhearted losers, Candy co-starred with Steve Martin in one of the greatest mismatched-duo road comedies ever, 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles,' a film we can't help flashing back to with the release of the similarly themed 'Due Date.'

Candy, who was known to be as benevolent off screen as on, first came to prominence as a member of Toronto's Second City comedy troupe, which would eventually spawn the renowned 'Second City Television' (Sctv) show in the late 1970s. Due to Sctv's popularity -- it was picked up by NBC in 1981 - Candy was already somewhat of a name before his movie career took off.

The 10 Most Famous Canadian Celebrities
When we quiet and polite Canadians first began planning our non-violent take-over of Pajiba I breezily volunteered to do a Famous Canadians list. How difficult could it be to pick 10 Canadians who were famous for being more than just incredibly polite motherfuckers? Seventeen hours and eleventy billion Google hits later it became apparent that it was much more difficult than you bitches think. We've managed to smuggle, I mean introduce, a helluva lot of Canadians into the Us over the years and while some of them stick out like wearing a toque on a hot summer day, others have managed to blend in so well even I was surprised to discover they were one of us. So, in order to whittle my list down to 10 I decided to only include people who were universally recognized as Canadians.

And yeah, I realize there are famous Canadians out there other than actors (hello Frank Gehry!
