Soham Shah’s All-Star Luck Turns 16
Image
Subhash K Jha looks again at Soham Shah’s Luck starring the impressive cast of Mithun Chakraborty, Shruti Haasan, Imran Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Danny Denzongpa, Ravi Kishan and Chitrashi Rawat, which released in 2009.

This is a film about subverted heroes. People who need big money so desperately they are willing to participate in a crazy game of life and death orchestrated by a man who has turned betting on human beings into a galloping global industry. Sanjay Dutt strides across the wide screen and its accompanying pomp and paraphernalia with aplomb. He’s accompanied by a cast that knows this film means macho business. However, the real heroes of this tale of perverse heroism are the action by Allan Amin, dialogues by Soham Shah, locations — ranging from the super-rugged to the ultra-chic — the thundering background score by Amar Mohile, and the cinematography of Santosh Thundiyil. All these technical components enrich...

Reality television comes to big screen but the fear factor is that it’s too pretentious. So in the same South African city where Akshay Kumar played host to daredevil girls, Sanjay Dutt challenges an eclectic group to perform stunts for his betting business. And so taken in were the cast and crew of the film by the young imp that she was officially called ‘shortkut’ on the sets, instead of her own name!
