‘Oh, Hi!’ Trailer: Molly Gordon Holds Logan Lerman Accountable (in Multiple Ways) in Twisted Rom-Com
Image
Girl meets guy. Girl falls for guy. Guy might not be totally truthful with girl. So what does a modern woman do? Well, Sophie Brooks’ “Oh, Hi!” might be the twisted answer to a very relatable dilemma.

Billed as a “subversive rom-com” to not give too much away, “Oh, Hi!” premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. Molly Gordon and Logan Lerman star as Iris and Isaac, a couple whose first romantic getaway soon goes awry. The description teases that the “odd dark comedy takes on the highs and lows of modern dating and the ways it makes us all a little crazy.”

Geraldine Viswanathan and John Reynolds co-star. Brooks wrote and directed “Oh, Hi!,” with Gordon having a story by credit (she also produces). “Oh, Hi!” is screening at the 2025 Tribeca Festival June 13 and 14 before debuting in theaters this July.

Brooks, whose first film “The Boy Downstairs” starred Zosia Mamet...

'Last Breath' Review: Woody Harrelson to the Rescue
Image
Most normal humans had no idea what saturation diving was until Richard da Costa and Alex Parkinson’s 2019 documentary Last Breath. The film recounts the true story of Chris Lemons, a saturation diver whose umbilical snapped 300 feet below the surface of the North Sea while repairing an oil rig. Although he only had about five minutes of oxygen left in his emergency tank, he spent over 35 minutes lying motionless at the bottom of the sea until he was picked up by his shipmates.

Parkinson’s documentary taught the world two very important lessons: One is that saturation divers, who work at perilous depths of up to 1000 feet while living in a tiny capsule for weeks at a time, are insane. The other is that the dangers of saturation diving, performed mostly for the gas and oil industries, are the biggest reasons to just forget this whole gas thing and hand everyone an Ev.

‘Oh, Hi!’ Review: Logan Lerman & Molly Gordon’s Romantic Getaway Goes Wrong In Sophie Brooks’ Rom-Com — Sundance Film Festival
Image
As the couple in Oh, Hi! struggles to fully commit, the Sundance Film Festival romantic-comedy from Sophie Brooks also struggled to connect with its audience.

Writer-director Brooks’ sophomore feature stars Molly Gordon and Logan Lerman as Iris and Isaac, a new couple who go on a romantic getaway that comes to a screeching halt when they reach a misunderstanding about their relationship status. With Isaac chained up during an act of light kink, Iris takes advantage of her captive audience to convince him to be her boyfriend.

Although Brooks’ follow-up to the charming 2017 feature The Boy Downstairs has the recipe for an enjoyable romantic comedy, complete with some gorgeous countryside views and supporting performances from the always hilarious Geraldine Viswanathan and John Reynolds, Oh, Hi! ultimately struggles to find its footing.

Even with some heavy-handed exposition to catch us up on their brief relationship, there’s not enough character development...

Bill Pohlad’s ‘Dreamin’ Wild’ Music Biopic Lands at Roadside Attractions
Image
Roadside Attractions has picked up the North American rights to Dreamin’ Wild, the Casey Affleck and Zooey Deschanel-starring music biopic that debuted in Venice.

Bill Pohlad directed the film that is set to hit theaters Aug. 4. Roadside released Pohlad’s 2014 feature Love & Mercy, a portrait of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys that marked his feature directorial debut.

Dreamin’ Wild captures the real-life story of musical duo Donnie and Joe Emerson, whose family leveraged their farm in the 1970s to produce the brothers’ record Dreamin’ Wild. The album languished until it was rediscovered nearly 30 years after its release, creating an unexpected music career for the Emerson brothers.

“I’m honored to be back with Roadside Attractions for my next film since Love & Mercy. I’m hoping that audiences will connect with this family’s heart-felt story as much as with Donnie’s extraordinary music,” Pohlad said in a statement on Thursday.

Bill Pohlad’s ‘Dreamin’ Wild’ Sells to Roadside Attractions, Plans Summer Release
Image
Roadside Attractions has acquired North American rights to “Dreamin’ Wild,” a drama about the rediscovery of singer and songwriter Donnie Emerson after years spent in obscurity. The film, which was directed by Bill Pohlad, a filmmaker who unearthed gold from another music industry saga with his 2014 Brian Wilson film “Love & Mercy,” premiered at Venice. “Dreamin’ Wild,” a reference to an album that Donnie released with his brother Joe Emerson, will open nationwide only in theaters on Aug. 4.

Roadside previously released “Love & Mercy,” making this a reunion for the filmmaker and distributor. The film centers on the critical reevaluation of “Dreamin’ Wild,” and the impact that second chance has on Donnie, his wife Nancy, brother Joe, and father Don Sr. as they must come to terms their new fame. Pohlad uses two different actors to explore the real-life characters in different time periods, just as he did in “Love & Mercy...

Casey Affleck: “I’ve Seen ‘Blonde’ And It’s Incredible” — Venice

Casey Affleck heaped praise on Andrew Dominik’s forthcoming Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde during a press conference for his latest film Dreamin’ Wild at the Venice Film Festival Wednesday.

Affleck began discussing the Nc-17-rated flick after he was asked about his relationship with the film’s director Andrew Dominik whom he worked with on The Assassination of Jesse James, which also debuted in Venice.

Last Shift: Anthony Diblasi directs a reimagining of his 2014 film
Image
Only eight years have gone by since the release of director Anthony Diblasi’s well-received horror feature Last Shift – but the filmmaker has already decided to return to the concept for an “expanded reimagining” that recently wrapped production. Jessica Sula (Split) stars in the currently untitled reimagining, which is coming to us from Welcome Villain Films. This is the company’s first feature.

The Last Shift reimagining centers on

‘Last Shift’ Reimagining Gets a Star in ‘Split’ Actor Jessica Sula
Image
Earlier this year, brand new production and distribution company Welcome Villain Films launched with “an expanded reimagining” of 2014’s Last Shift in the works. Today, Last Shift announced its lead and a tease of what to expect.

The untitled reboot has wrapped production, with post-production expected to finish this fall for a planned 2023 release.

Diblasi co-wrote the upcoming film with Scott Poiley, and it sounds like it will be a much bigger, bloodier affair.

The company’s mission is to “empower creators of all levels, bridging the gap between studio and artist to consistently deliver edgy and exciting films in the horror and genre space,” according to a press release.

Welcome Villain Films has started to shape its executive team, which is currently comprised of four partners: Bonner Bellew as head of operations, Dan Clifton as head of production, Luke Labeau as head of development, and Eric Kleifield as head of creative. It plans to expand the leadership group as the year progresses.

Casey Affleck, Zooey Deschanel, Walton Goggins, Chris Messina to Star in Music Drama ‘Dreamin’ Wild’
Image
Director Bill Pohlad has enlisted a starry ensemble for “Dreamin’ Wild,” his upcoming indie movie about musicians Donnie and Joe Emerson.

Casey Affleck, Zooey Deschanel and Walton Goggins will lead the call sheet, with Beau Bridges, Jack Dylan Grazer, Noah Jupe and Chris Messina rounding out the cast.

“Dreamin’ Wild” tells the true story of the Emerson family and the tumult that followed the success of their self-recorded pop-funk album of the same name, which went largely unnoticed until critics rediscovered and reappraised it decades later. Now, as an adult, Donnie is forced to confront the ghosts from the past and grapple with the emotional toll his dreams have taken on the family who supported him.

Affleck is playing Donnie in the present day, while Jupe will portray him in his teenage years. Goggins will portray Joe as an adult, and Grazer will play him in his younger days. Deschanel...

Like Pohlad’s critically acclaimed second feature, Love & Mercy, which told the story of Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson, Dreamin’ Wild is set in the world of music, telling the true story of instrumental and vocal duo Donnie and Joe Emerson and their family.

When Dreamin’ Wild – the album Donnie self-recorded as a teenager in 1979, with his brother Joe – is re-discovered decades later and meets critical acclaim, adult Donnie is forced to confront ghosts from the past and...

What if someone with superpowers akin to Superman decided to use their abilities for evil instead of good? The chilling answer to that question is explored in David Yarovesky's Brightburn (which Heather Wixson wrote "soars as a gory slasher/superhero hybrid" in her 4-star review), and if you missed it in theaters or want to experience it again, you'll be pleased to know that Sony is releasing the film on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on August 20th (following an August 6th digital release), and we've been provided with the cover art and full list of bonus features:

BrightBurn Extended Red Band Clip Shows Off James Gunn's Horrible Hero
James Gunn
James Gunn's BrightBurn is only a few weeks away from hitting theaters and the studio has released some creepy new footage. First, a Red Band extended clip is truly Nsfw and may not be suitable for anybody who has an extreme fear of losing their sight. The second is the latest TV spot, which features some new footage and the Billie Eilish song "Bad Guy." So far, it looks like Memorial Day weekend is going to have some superhero horror to kick off the summer.

The Red Band extended clip from BrightBurn takes place in the diner, which has been teased in previous footage. However, this is the entire three minutes and it has some really uncomfortable moments in it. Director David Yarovesky is going all out in the superhero horror movie about an alien child who lands on Earth, but turns out to be a villain instead of a hero.

Brightburn Trailer: James Gunn's New Superhero Horror Movie
H Collective has released the first trailer for James Gunn's BrightBurn and it looks pretty crazy. The superhero horror origin story stars Elizabeth Banks as a mother who discovers an extraterrestrial child (Jackson A. Dunn) in her yard, after praying for a baby. However, this infant isn't delivered like a normal human being. The baby crash-lands on Earth, much like another well-known superhero in the DC universe. However, things don't really go in a bright and cheery direction like some aspects of Clark Kent's origin story, and it all starts to get out of hand rather quickly.

From producer and creator James Gunn, Brightburn poses a new question: What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? Director David Yarovesky presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror,...

James Gunn Horror Project ‘BrightBurn’ Pushed 6 Months to May 2019
Sony has moved back James Gunn’s horror project, now titled “BrightBurn,” from November of this year to May 24, 2019.

Gunn was previously set to discuss the project at San Diego ComicCon in the summer but did not appear following old comments the “Guardians of the Galaxy” director had made on Twitter that ultimately got him ousted from the Marvel movie series. Gunn teased something “dark, sweet and special” at the time, but did not appear during Sony’s Hall H panel.

“BrightBurn” is being produced by Gunn, written and produced by Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn, directed by David Yaroevsky and stars Elizabeth Banks. Dan Clifton, Nic Crawley and Simon Hatt are also producing. The plot is currently under wraps.
