The winners of this year's Harvey Awards—which have been recognizing outstanding achievements in various comics-related categories since 1988—were announced over the weekend. The Best Manga category had a bunch of tough competition in it, and Ryoko Kui's Delicious in Dungeon manga came out on top. Five inductees were also recently announced for the Hall of Fame, including Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama. The other inductees were illustrator Arthur Adams ( Uncanny X-Men ), comic author Larry Hama ( G.I. Joe ), artist and writer Sergio Aragonés ( Groo the Wanderer ) and comic artist John Buscema ( The Avengers ). Yen Press, which publishes the English edition of the Delicious in Dungeon manga, celebrated the news on its official X (formerly Twitter) account. The winners of the first American Manga Awards were announced at Japan Society’s Lila Acheson Wallace Auditorium on Aug 22, 2024.

The American Manga Awards aim to recognize and honor manga creators, stories, and the publishing professionals who bring them to readers in the US & Canada.

The awards were presented in several categories, including Best New Manga, Best Continuing Manga Series, Best New Edition of Classic Manga Series, Best Translation, Best Lettering, and Best Publication Design.

Following last month's announcement of the first inaugural American Manga Awards event, the full list of nominees has been revealed. The nominees span six of the eight main categories, including Best New Manga, Best Continuing Manga Series, Best New Edition of Classic Manga, Best Translation, Best Lettering and Best Publication Design. 30 nominees have been revealed in total. On top of that, it was announced that translator and author Frederik L. Schodt ( Manga! Manga!
