Strange New Worlds Makes Dr. M'Benga Like Star Trek DS9's Bashir In 2 Big Ways
Image
"Under the Cloak of War" tackles the themes of warfare and justice, staying true to Gene Roddenberry's utopian vision of Star Trek. Both Dr. M'Benga and Dr. Bashir served in the Federation-Klingon War, experiencing similar hardships and trauma. The J'Gal flashbacks in the episode suggest that M'Benga may be approached by Section 31, potentially accepting a role to protect his own secrets.

Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 8, "Under the Cloak of War."Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has revealed two big similarities between Dr. Joseph M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) and Dr. Julian Bashir (Alexander Siddig) from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. In "Under the Cloak of War", a visiting Klingon dignitary, Ambassador Dak'Rah (Robert Wisdom) opens old wounds for M'Benga, forcing him to confront the trauma of the Federation-Klingon War. The tensions between M'Benga and Dak'Rah come to a head in a devastating climactic confrontation that...

Theatre Review: David Arquette’s ‘Sherlock Holmes’ Cheapens Drama With Campy, Unfunny Comedy
Chicago – Different isn’t bad and might be great, but you’d better have an irrefutable reason to change what was never broken. Campy being the only word to accurately convey this alternate-reality version of Sherlock Holmes with an original script, writer Greg Kramer and director Andrew Shaver try too hard to be different without ever figuring out why.

Play Rating: 2.0/5.0

This Thanksgiving, spend your time anywhere but with David Arquette’s “Sherlock Holmes” at the Oriental Theatre. Thankfully, the one-week limited engagement only runs in Chicago from Nov. 24 through Nov. 29, 2015 until it tours elsewhere.

Starvox Entertainment and June Entertainment’s “Sherlock Holmes” has stripped out all the mystery, intrigue, tension, drama and danger and replaced it with cheesy, cheeky and...

Q&A: Sam Witwer Talks Being Human
Syfy’s supernatural drama Being Human takes viewers into a world where a ghost, a werewolf and a vampire start out as roommates and then become life-long friends along the way. But this is no average bonding tale, in their world, things that lurk in the shadows are dangerous, deadly and at times decadent. Thus, there is a lot that haunts and torments them and their lives are frought with conflict at every turn. In fact, the third season of Being Human began with their lives in dire circumstances with Aidan stuck in a buried coffin, Sally stuck in limbo, and Josh and Nora frantically search for both for over a year.

Fortunately, things got a bit better once Aidan was found, Sally rescued, and supernatural roommates reunited under one roof. But Aidan’s dark journey is nowhere close to being over as he returned to a world where virtually...

Being Human Season 2 Finale Review: Shredded Apart
The Season 2 finale of Being Human, “It’s My Party and I’ll Die if I Want To” completed a circle for Josh (Sammy Huntington) and Aidan (Sam Witwer) that began at the season premiere, “Turn This Mother Out.” Sally’s (Meaghan Rath) funny but poignant line–their last scene in the house together by the way–summed up the entire episode.

Sally: You two are about to go on two killing sprees for women… That is so hot.

Josh and Nora (Kristen Hager) found themselves in another standoff– this time against Josh’s maker, Ray (Andreas Apergis) and as humans, not wolves. In “Turn This Mother Out,” Aidan dug up his former love, Suren (Dichen Lachman) after an 80-year punishment and his fate is unknown after he’s thrown into the same casket that she laid in for decades but with her ashes covering his body.

Aidan

At the...

Being Human (2011)
TV Reviews: Being Human, Season 2, Episode 12, “Partial Eclipse of My Heart”
Being Human (2011)
Being Human He needs a new nail person “Partial Eclipse of the Heart” Air Date: 4/2/12

The action picks up directly where we were left off from last week, with Aidan cornered by Henry and a couple of Mother’s henchman vamps. Instead of staking Aidan, Henry turns on the other vampires and helps Aidan elude capture. Henry wants to help Aidan on the lam, and run away with him (and leave Suren), but Aidan refuses, wanting Henry to move up Mother’s ranks instead and is unable to leave his love behind. He gives Henry a little stake in the side to make his point, and to save Henry from suspicion on returning empty handed. Suren, meanwhile, is starving and restless, wanting to feed and wondering if she made the right decision to leave with Aidan after all. To sate Suren’s hunger, Aidan goes off to find a new...

Being Human (2011)
TV Review: “Being Human” Season 2, Episode 7 “The Ties That Blind”
Being Human (2011)
Worst. Manicurist. Ever.

Being Human Air Date: 2/27/2012 “The Ties That Blind”

Aidan’s running through the woods and bumps into fellow vampire Atlee: four wolves are after him. They run away faster. Cut to the morning with Nora and Josh waking up in the same woods, naked and caked in blood and dirt, making a convincing case for cameos in The Hangover 3. And bam, that’s how you start an episode.

A long time coming, but the rest of the vampire community is finally sniffing around Hegeman’s (Mother’s second in command) disappearance and murder. Viewers know Nora killed Hegeman during her first turn in the season premiere, and Mother’s lackey Atlee (Kyle Gatehouse) comes to Aidan at the hospital to imply that not only was Aidan involved but promises consequences should no progress be made in their pursuit of vengeance.

Last week, disregarding Aidan’s advice, Josh...

‘Being Human’ Season 2 Episode 2 Review: Greater (Problems) in Numbers
Everything has been escalated in the second season of Being Human and it’s only the second episode. We were given a real glimpse at what the season holds in store for our three roommates, the temptations that are trying to lure them in as well as the new dangers that await them. Aidan (Sam Witwer) is juggling new women in his life; Sally’s (Meaghan Rath) afterlife is overrun with adolescent boys, and Josh (Sam Huntington) and Nora (Kristen Hager) well, let’s just say that the other wolf is out of the bag.

Josh & Nora

For another week, I’m going to lead off with the werewolves after what Nora did to Heggeman who did not connect with Josh again with his gun. In fact there was nothing connected on him when the sun rose in the morning.

With Heggeman gone that leaves most if not all of...

Cas Anvar, Vera Farmiga, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jeffrey Wright, Michelle Monaghan, and Michael Arden in Source Code (2011)
Source Code Movie Review
Cas Anvar, Vera Farmiga, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jeffrey Wright, Michelle Monaghan, and Michael Arden in Source Code (2011)
Title: Source Code Directed By: Duncan Jones Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga, Michelle Monaghan, Jeffrey Wright, Michael Arden, Cas Anvar, Kyle Gatehouse Source Code is big for Duncan Jones. Having stepped into the spotlight in the best way possible via his critically acclaimed first feature, Moon, Jones was bound for big budget Hollywood. Sure enough, the opportunity arose and Source Code is his second feature. Now the question is, can Jones do it again but with a new leading man and a whole lot more money? It’s a noble effort, but in the end, Source Code makes it quite clear; lots of money and a heartthrob lead don’t guarantee you a better product. Jake [...]...

'The Wild Hunt' In Theatres on April 9
After a run at the latest Toronto International Film Festival and the Festival du nouveau cinéma, Alexandre Franchi's anticipated debut feature The Wild Hunt will hit Canada's theatres on April 9, 2010. However, note that it will only be a limited release.

This independent film was made on a shoestring budget and Franchi co-wrote the script with Mark Antony Krupa.

The film was shot in Montreal and Biccoline, Québec. It brings us into the world of larpers, people who participate in a live role playing game that takes place in the Middle Age (sort of). Evelynn (Kaniehtiio Horn) leaves Montreal for a while just to take place in this kind of make-believe game. Obviously, Erik (Ricky Mabe), her boyfriend, feels that she's disconnected from him and would like to talk her out of the game. Besides, as Evelynn tries to get out of the game, the larpers will do what they...

The Wild Hunt On the Prowl Beginning January 24
The Slamdance Film Festival begins in two weeks and many of the films are looming darkly. The Wild Hunt, from Darclight Entertainment, blurs genres, but centrally the film is one of lost love and the danger of blurring reality with fantasy. Much of The Wild Hunt takes place during a medieval re-enactment in which newcomer Erik (Ricky Mabe) finds the egos of the players out-of-control. This flick also stars Kyle Gatehouse (Killer Wave), Trevor Hayes (The Dead Zone), and Mark Antony Krupa (Shake Hands with the Devil) and a trailer is below. Watch the theatrical clip till the end when The Wild Hunt reveals its true horrific colours.

A synopsis for The Wild Hunt here:

"A modern medieval saga, The Wild Hunt tells the story of Erik Magnusson, a young man who decides to follow his estranged girlfriend Evelyn into a medieval re-enactment game when he discovers that she has...
