Outpost: Joe Lo Truglio horror film gets September release in UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand

After doing a lot of work in the comedy genre – Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The State, Viva Variety, Upright Citizens Brigade, Wet Hot American Summer, Reno 911!, Superbad, Pineapple Express, Paul, Role Models, Wanderlust, I Love You, Man… the list is long – Joe Lo Truglio has decided to make his feature directorial debut with a horror film called Outpost. Gravitas Ventures gave the film a theatrical and VOD release in the US back in May (you can find it on Amazon at This Link), and now Lightbulb Film Distribution has announced that they’ll be bringing Outpost to the UK and Ireland on September 11th with a digital and VOD release. The movie will then be given the same sort of release in Australia and New Zealand on September 13th.

Also scripted by Lo Truglio, Outpost has the following synopsis: After a violent assault, a woman asks her best friend for help escaping an abusive ex.

Joe Lo Truglio & Beth Dover Interview: Outpost
Image
Written and directed by Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Joe Lo Truglio, Outpost is currently available to see in theaters and stream On Demand. The psychological horror centers around a woman who takes a job at an outpost in the mountains to escape her abusive relationship. While she believes the change will bring her a sense of peace, the isolation sends Kate on a dangerous downward spiral that threatens the safety of herself and those around her.

Outpost is Lo Truglio's directional debut and stars his real-life partner, Beth Dover. Dover has been featured in several films and television series such as Another Period, American Housewife, and The Oath. However, she is most well-known for her role as Linda Ferguson in Orange is the New Black. Ato Essandoh, Dylan Baker, Becky Ann Baker, Dallas Roberts, Ta'Rea Campbell, Tim Neff, and D.R. Anderson also star.

Exclusive Outpost Featurette Details Joe Lo Truglio and Beth Dover's Horror Film
Image
Believe it or not, comedians make great horror filmmakers. Obviously, horror and comedy have similarities in their relationship to visceral reactions, and so genre blends of the two have almost always had success. It's in recent years especially, though, that people we've previously associated with comedy have surprised us with spectacularly scary and profound horror films. Jordan Peele and John Krasinski are the iconic examples, but also Zach Cregger, Kevin Smith, and Bobcat Goldthwait.

Now, Joe Lo Truglio is throwing his comedy hat into the horror ring with Outpost. Lo Truglio is perhaps most beloved for his starring role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but he's had hilariously memorable supporting roles in Superbad, Reno 911!, Role Models, Pineapple Express, and countless other films.

His wife, Beth Dover, is also known for her funny roles in Another Period, Burning Love, Children's Hospital, Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later, and many more television series.

‘Outpost’ Review

Stars: Beth Dover, Ato Essandoh, Dylan Baker, Becky Ann Baker, Dallas Roberts, Ta’Rea Campbell, Tim Neff, D.R. Anderson | Written and Directed by Joe Lo Truglio

I do love checking out directorial debuts, I so do. Especially when it looks like the first-time director is flexing that creative muscle in a realm you might not exactly associate with their usual body of work. So the thought of Joe Lo Truglio of Brooklyn Nine-Nine fame making what promised to be some sort of psychological survival thriller type thing starring actress Beth Dover (Orange is the New Black). Well, it is safe to say I was super intrigued by this prospect and couldn’t wait to check out Outpost.

Kate (Dover) is the victim of a horrific attack that has left her physically and mentally scarred. Unable to shake off the events and truly get on with life, she seeks the help...

Official Trailer for Fire Lookout Thriller 'Outpost' Starring Beth Dover
Image
"Routine is key. Your head needs that. Three months is a long time." Gravitas has unveiled an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Outpost, marking the directorial debut of actor Joe Lo Truglio. He directed a few TV episodes for the shows he's been in, but this is his first feature film. It premiered at FrightFest last year, and opens in the US this May. Kate seeks recovery from a violent assault by taking a job as a "fire lookout", but becomes increasingly overwhelmed by her isolation and tragic past. A story about pain, what happens when you run from it, how it always catches up and controls what you see & hear. It commands what you do. If you don’t face your demons, they'll come to face you. Outpost stars Beth Dover, Ato Essandoh, Dylan Baker, Becky Ann Baker, Dallas Roberts, Ta'Rea Campbell, Tim Neff, and D.R. Anderson.

“The Ward (2011)” DVD Review
HollywoodNews.com: There is nothing particularly wrong with The Ward, there is just little about it to stand out amongst the sea of similar genre entries, to say nothing of the whole slew of direct-to-dvd films that fill the shelves of Blockbuster and the queue of Netflix any given day. That this film was given a token theatrical release just last month is only because it happens to be helmed by one of the more respected horror filmmakers of the 1970s and 1980s. But the era of John Carpenter is long over. While I can tell you that the film looks more polished and more overtly cinematic that it likely would have if directed by someone less esteemed, the picture remains a relative non-entity. It’s not bad so much as it’s not very good in any notable way.

A token amount of plot: Its 1966 and Kristen (Amber Heard...

The Ward Review: Welcome To Where Time Stands Still, No One Leaves And No One Will
I don't know what to do about The Ward. When I first heard about it, I was cautiously excited -- after all, it is a new John Carpenter movie, and anyone who knows me knows that Carpenter may well be my favorite genre film maker of all time. Of course, that was before he started slipping into mediocrity. Somewhere around the early 90's, either he stopped trying, or he failed to evolve his techniques, or he simply ran out of ideas. But Carpenter has been struggling to find his place in this modern cinematic landscape. He tried science fiction (Ghosts of Mars), and failed. He tried horror (In The Mouth Of Madness, Village Of The Damned, Vampires), and achieved middling results. He tried going back to his roots (Escape From L.A.), and assembled an utter, miserable disaster. He's had only two honestly successful efforts -- Cigarette Burns and Pro-Life, his...

The Ward (2010)
John Carpenter's The Ward' in Theaters April 15? New Clips
The Ward (2010)
Either something is wrong, or the people behind XLrator Media are doing a horrid job of promoting their big acquisition, John Carpenter's The Ward, which is listed as being released on April 15. While we attempt to firm up this date, inside you'll find a trio of clips (unfortunately in Italian), ones of which features Amber Heard showering. My only thoughts were, "Turn around, Turn Around!" The story follows a girl (Heard) who is admitted to a psychiatric ward, meets other girls there with distinct personalities and discovers a mysterious girl haunting the halls at night. Danielle Panabaker, Mamie Gummer, Jared Harris, Mika Boorem, Lyndsy Fonseca, Laura-Leigh, Sydney Sweeney, Dan Anderson, Susanna Burney, Sali Sayle also star.
