The M3GAN franchise's upcoming spinoff, SOULM8TE, has found its new lethal AI. The role will be played by Evil Dead Rise actor Lily Sullivan. The story will see a recently widowed man try to create a new soulmate.
The M3GAN franchise has unveiled its latest AI killer for the upcoming spinoff SOULM8TE. The 2022 horror hit saw a hard-working roboticist attempt to create a perfect doll-like artificial intelligence companion for her recently orphaned niece, though M3GAN's (Amie Donald and Jenna Davis) dedication to her primary function that turns her into a killer. With critical praise and an impressive box office gross, M3GAN will be expanded through a sequel and spin-off, SOULM8TE, which sees a recently widowed man attempt to create a soulmate, with lethal results.
While M3GAN 2.0 won't return until 2025, Deadline has revealed SOULM8TE has found its AI. Kate Dolan's spin-off will be led by Lily Sullivan.

Nearly eight years have passed since writer/director Jason Lei Howden announced that he would be making a sequel to his feature directorial debut Deathgasm (watch it Here). In that time, Howden has made Guns Akimbo and set up a film and comic book project called Monsters of Metal… and now he’s finally getting ready to head into production on Deathgasm 2! But to get the sequel made properly, he needs some help from the fans. That’s why Deathgasm 2 is currently raising funds and selling perks – including accepting pre-orders for copies of the finished film – on Kickstarter.
Deathgasm, released in 2015, tells the story of two high-school metal-heads, Brodie (played by Cawthorne) and Zakk (Blake), who form a band called Deathgasm. One day, while delving into some dark magic to escape their mundane lives, the duo unwittingly summon an evil entity called The Blind One. In the sequel, “which promises...

Good news! Since we were all so obnoxiously loud about how much we loved seeing a sentient version of the cursed "Twilight" Renesmee baby robot doing aerial flips down a hallway in the trailer for Universal, Blumhouse, and Atomic Monster's "M3GAN," the film is coming out even earlier than anticipated.
Blumhouse has a consistently solid track record for their horror releases, with both legacy projects like the extremely polarizing "Halloween Ends" and originals like "The Black Phone." The upcoming "M3GAN" is a new original film for the house that Blum built, and if it's as profitable as the constant trending Tweets would lead us to believe it'll be, the company may be looking at a new franchise to join "Paranormal Activity,...

Anyone who's ever seen a James Wan horror movie knows the man is downright terrified of human-like dolls, as well as he should be. So it's no surprise to see him involved in the making of "M3GAN," the upcoming Blumhouse thriller about a killer doll that looks like a cross between Annabelle from "The Conjuring" and the teched-out Buddi doll version of Chucky from the "Child's Play" remake.
Allison Williams, who's quickly evolved into a Scream Queen of twisted modern horror thanks to her roles in "Get Out" and "The Perfection," stars in "M3GAN" as Gemma, a roboticist who comes up with the design for the titular doll (voiced by Kimberley Crossman), a life-like A.I. toy that's "programmed to be a child's greatest companion and a parent's greatest ally," as the film's synopsis words it. “Gemma, a brilliant roboticist at a toy company, uses artificial intelligence to develop M3GAN, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. 2017’s Power Rangers was supposed to usher in a new era for the beloved franchise. Hopes were high prior to the film’s release, with the trailers at least promising some impressive visual effects and sequels already being planned. But then it crashed and burned at the box office, making just $142 million on a budget of $105 million. Theories for its failure ranged from it being certified PG-13 to it being seen as a “junior league” imitation of a superhero movie. My theory is simple: it just wasn’t very good.

File this under the most surprising TV news of the month:
ABC has decided against going forward with the Eden Sher-fronted spinoff of The Middle.
The show was said to be titled "Sue Sue in the City" and would have continued the story of Sue Heck as she finished college and got ready to start her own life in Chicago.
Brock Ciarlelli was also on board to reprise the role of Brad Bottig, Sue's best friend from The Middle. That casting decision made sense because Sue and Brad were such a dynamic duo on the original series.
Chris Diamantopoulos, Kimberley Crossman, Finesse Mitchell, and Aaron Branch were also attached to the offshoot as series regulars.

ABC is home to several comedies, but given that the show was a spinoff of one of the network's better-received comedies, it was a sure bet to land a series pickup.

ABC has opted not to pick up to series its Sue Heck-centered spinoff from hit family comedy The Middle. I hear the project may be shopped by producing studio Warner Bros. TV.
Titled Sue Sue In the City, the single-camera comedy stars The Middle standout Eden Sher as Sue Heck and comes from The Middle creators/executive producers Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline. It was ordered by ABC to pilot in August, with Chris Diamantopoulos cast alongside Sher and fellow Middle alum Brock Ciarlelli as well as Kimberley Crossman, Finesse Mitchell and Aaron Branch.
The spinoff follows the twentysomething adventures of eternal optimist Sue Heck (Sher) as she leaves the small town of Orson to navigate the ups and downs of a career and young adulthood in the big city of Chicago.
Departing ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey had made developing series for the millennial audience a priority. This marks the second such comedy pilot,...

I’m not sure if it’s because I had the opportunity to see and watch more this year, but to me, 2015 seems like it was such an exceptional year for genre films across the board. Once again, indie horror gave us a bevy of incredible films from a variety of subgenres, and even studio films seemed to step things up this year as well (a trend I do hope continues). Here’s a look at some of my favorite genre offerings from this year:
Turbo Kid: One of two movies in 2015 that left me with a huge, goofy-ass grin on my face from start to finish was Turbo Kid, the wickedly fun post-apocalyptic story of a young hero, an evil warlord, a quirky sidekick and her gnome stick. Deathgasm. That name conjures up a myriad of things in your mind. A myriad of things that Deathgasm probably contains in its short, but packed, 90 minutes running time. From death by dildo, decapitations, eviscerations, disembowelment, dismemberment and more. And metal. Lots and lots of heavy metal. Old-school metal, death metal, black metal; but definitely Not any hair metal!
The movie tells the story of Brodie, a metal-loving kid sent to live with his bible-bashing relatives who is an outcast at home And at school. When he meets a kindred spirit in Zakk at the local record shop, they decide – along with Brodie only two schoolfriends – to start their own band, the titular Deathgasm (they rejected the name Intestinal Bungee Jump). Soon the duo’s resentment of the suburban wasteland leads them to...

New Zealand hasn’t produced many horror films over the years, but those it has given birth to are remarkably strong entries. The late ’80s and early ’90s witnessed the rise of Kiwi director Peter Jackson who made a name for himself with the Bad Taste (1988) and Dead Alive (1992). Jackson helped shine a spotlight on the countries genre offerings and his success no doubt opened the door for a new generation of Kiwi genre filmmakers. The latest of these films to make its way Stateside is Jason Lei Howden’s outrageous debut feature Deathgasm about a group of suburban metal heads who summon a demonic force.
Milo Cawthorne and James Blake play Brodie and Zakk, two renegade outcasts who quickly bond over their mutual admiration of heavy metal and decide to form a band. But their dreams...

During the 2015 SXSW Film Festival, Daily Dead had the opportunity to catch up with several members of the cast and crew for Deathgasm, the wildly raucous tribute by Jason Lei Howden to all things horror and metal. We heard from Howden, producers Ant Timpson, Andrew Beattie as well as co-stars Milo Cawthorne and Kimberley Crossman about their involvement in the project and much more.
I have to congratulate you all on a great film- it was insanely fun to watch with a crowd like this and you certainly found some really unusual ways of killing people with sex toys which was beyond crazy.
Jason Lei Howden: Funny story about that; Andrew popped over with the “Church Stuff” box that was filled with dildos and said it was my gift from production. And they ended up accidentally in our garage sale; I had forgotten about them and some guy was...

When you walk into a movie titled Deathgasm, there’s an instant expectation of horrific lunacy. By purchasing a ticket, you’re begging for a literal orgasm of death set to the tune of metallic shredding that would make Satan himself piss his pants, and that’s something first-time-feature director Jason Lei Howden delivers in droves.
Once the film kicks in, with a frantic opening credits montage that’s comprised of devilish scribblings and face-melting guitar riffs, your hair will spike up and an excited chill will shoot down your spine as one thing becomes immediately apparent – Deathgasm is the real deal. Straight from the bowels of hell comes a metalhead’s wet dream, scored by some of the thrashiest New Zealand and international metal icons around. F*ck thumbs, this film gets two metal horns way, Way up.

As someone who relishes new and unusual storytelling, it’s been great to see the recent boom of films coming out of New Zealand, a country that embraces and celebrates the unusual in ways most other places in the world just cannot. The latest Kiwi film to make its way Stateside is Jason Lei Howden’s Deathgasm, the ridiculously fun and bombastic celebration of horror and heavy metal that premiered at the 2015 SXSW Film Festival last night. While the film may garner a lot of attention for it’s more over-the-top approach to gore, nudity and its clever use of sex toys, what makes Deathgasm so special is that the story itself is full of heart and features breakout performances from both Milo Cawthorne and Kimberley Crossman, who bring tons of infectious energy to the project.

This year’s South By Southwest Film Conference and Festival (SXSW 2015), which will run from March 13-21 in Austin, Texas, has unveiled the lineup for its beloved Midnighters section, which aims to showcase the best and brightest in genre filmmaking, from thriller to horror to science-fiction. SXSW’s senior programmer Jarod Neece commented on the Midnighters lineup, stating:
“Creepy, clever, engrossing, and frightening are just a few words that come to mind when I think about this year’s SXSW Midnighters lineup. These nine world premieres and two festival favorites are helmed by five first-time filmmakers and several SXSW alumni.”

Jason Lei Howden's Deathgasm will show at the SXSW Film Festival. This film festival and cultural event takes place in Austin, Texas, each year. As part of the Midnighters line up, Deathgasm will play later this year. In the film, Brodie (Milo Cawthorne) is a new kid in a small town. A metalhead, Brodie becomes friends with Zakk (James Blake), initially through music. But then, they bond in blood! As well, the first trailer for Deathgasm has been released and it is a gruesome one. Brodie and Zakk team up through metal in this trailer. Soon, they find a way to summon a demon, who forces them into murder. Now, the body count stacks up and the blood spills all over as this duo lays waste to their friends. Medina (Kimberley Crossman) comes along for the ride, until almost everyone is sporting new wounds. The trailer is truly a gorey one.

While Hollywood savors The South by Southwest Film Festival as a testing ground for big comedies, one area of the fest that is definitely edgy, is its Midnighter section. Today, the 22nd annual SXSW announced 11 genre films, nine of which are world premieres, comprised of thrillers, sci-fi, dark comedies and horror as part of its Midnighters section as well as their shorts and music videos.
SXSW’s strength with absurd and Z grade fare is clearly evident in its Midnight short lineup where such kinky titles like Anal Juke (which is billed as the director’s “dream about my ex-boyfriend and the uneasy atmosphere of Japan after the earthquake are remixed”) and Kiss Kiss Fingerbang are receiving play slots. Or how about Crow Hand!!! which reads as a “Caw-tionary tale!”
The 106 shorts selected are from a record 4,935 submissions, a 16% uptick from last year. In talking with Deadline today, SXSW producer and senior programmer Jarod Neece,...
