Vietnam War Combat Meets Lethal Dinosaur Predators In Brutal Primitive War Sdcc Trailer
Image
Primitive War is shaping up to be a visceral mash-up of Kong: Skull Island and The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and that’s sure to attract a number of action and sci-fi enthusiasts.

The gritty R-rated action-horror, based on Ethan Pettus’s cult-favorite novel, will debut in select theaters from August 21–25, 2025, via Fathom Entertainment.

The film brings a grimy, blood-soaked, B-movie energy to the dinosaur genre, set against the chaotic backdrop of the Vietnam War.

Directed by Luke Sparke, Primitive War follows an elite military squad on a search-and-rescue mission gone horribly wrong. Dropped into enemy territory in 1968, “Vulture Squad” quickly finds itself stalked by monstrous prehistoric creatures, including a T-rex, Utahraptors, and more.

Speaking to the crowd at Sdcc, Sparke stated [via ScreenRant], "I got in touch with the author and pitched him what I’d love to do… we shopped it around Hollywood… ‘you’re not Steven Spielberg, you can’t do dinosaurs…...

Primitive War (2025)
‘Primitive War’ Official Trailer – A Vietnam War Movie Gets Invaded by Dinosaurs!
Primitive War (2025)
They call it “high concept.” In the upcoming Primitive War, soldiers in Vietnam do battle with prehistoric dinosaurs, and the teaser trailer for the action/horror/sci-fi movie has arrived.

Debuted by THR this morning, watch the teaser trailer for Primitive War below! “This ain’t no walk in the park,” the trailer promises, taking a shot at Jurassic Park in the process.

On that note, it’s awesome to see filmmakers outside the Jurassic franchise playing with dinosaurs, as that’s something we haven’t seen enough of over the years. The high concept approach to the material here reminds us a bit of the 2023 movie 65, which saw Adam Driver going up against dinosaurs. And it looks like Primitive War has enough of a budget behind it to make the dinosaur action look pretty damn good, which gives us hope for this one.

Expect Primitive War to stomp...

Stuart Beattie, whose credits as a writer include working on Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, G.I. The film follows Captain JJ Collins (Elsa Pataky), who’s called back to active duty after she is wrongfully drummed out of her dream job at the Pentagon. When a simultaneous coordinated attack then threatens the base itself,...

‘Chronical: 2067’ Review
Image
Stars: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ryan Kwanten, Sana’a Shaik, Deborah Mailman, Aaron Glenane | Written and Directed by Seth Larney

400 years from now you have to ask… Are we worth saving?

It still amazes me to this day that Jason Stackhouse is none other than lifeguard Vinnie from Home and Away. I mean back on that show he was the chubby lovable idiot now he is ripped and a bloody great actor to boot. So apart from utterly useless trivia about who an actor played years back, I am also a bit of a sci-fi nerd and when Chronical: 2067 (or just 2067 outside the UK) crossed my table and was billed as a timey-wimey, post-apocalyptic sci-fi with that young lad from The Road who is all grown up now and True Blood’s Jason Stackhouse (aka actor Ryan Kwanten). Well that was me interested jumping in with both feet. Question is, was the...

Released by AMC Networks’ Rlje Films on-demand and on 15 screens in the US last weekend, Seth Larney’s 2067 ranks in fourth spot on the US iTunes digital chart.

The sci-fi mystery thriller set on an Earth ravaged by climate change, where humanity is forced to live on artificial oxygen, trails the top title, Tate Taylor’s sci-fi thriller Ava, followed by British sci-fi drama Archive and The Secret: Dare to Dream.

The Australian/New Zealand distributor Umbrella Entertainment is yet to set a release date which will follow the Adelaide Film Festival premiere on the October 14 opening night.

Produced by Arcadia’s Lisa Shaunessy, Futurism Studios’ Jason Taylor and Kate Croser for Kojo Entertainment, the film stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ryan Kwanten, Deborah Mailman, Aaron Glenane, Damian Walshe-Howling and Leeanna Walsman.

‘2067’ Review: Kodi Smit-McPhee Visits an All-Too-Familiar Dystopian Future
Image
By now the term “dystopian future” almost seems redundant, at least at the movies — when was the last time you saw a film in which the future wasn’t dystopian? Audiences can swan-dive down that familiar sinkhole once again in “2067,” an Australian sci-fi adventure that’s the first directorial feature from Seth Larney, whose visual-effects background is evidenced in a good-looking production that gets a lot out of its design aspects for the buck.

In the realms of storytelling and character interest, however, this stock “can our protagonist save the planet that humanity already wrecked?” tale proves less resourceful, bogging down in convoluted, low-boil intrigue despite taking place in both the titular year and 25th century. Though Larner gets sole screenplay credit, publicity materials note involvement of at least four other writers. The result is a movie that seems unaware just how generic the should-be-distinguishing details of its earnest eco-cautionary tale have turned out.

2067 Review: Cerebral Science Fiction Loaded with Twists & Tears
Image
2067 is a cerebral sci-fi thriller from Australian writer/director Seth Larney. The film is set in a dystopian future where climate change has eradicated all plant life. Humans survive by breathing synthetic oxygen, but at a terrible cost. The artificial air causes a "sickness" that is killing the remaining population. 2067's detailed plot has several intriguing mysteries at its core. They unfurl slowly while the primary character faces an existential crisis. It's an interesting journey, but saddled with melodrama. 2067 gets bogged down and weepy at critical junctures.

Kodi Smit-McPhee stars as Ethan Whyte, a technician that works underground on the last city's unstable nuclear reactor. He volunteers for as many shifts as possible. His beloved wife (Sana'a Shaik) is dying from the "sickness." She needs the highest quality oxygen to survive. Ethan's father, Richard Whyte (Aaron Glenane), was a renowned scientist who predicted the coming apocalypse. He died when Ethan was a child,...

Kodi Smit-McPhee & Ryan Kwanten Save the Future in '2067' Trailer
Kodi Smit-McPhee
"What if I told you that you could save all of us?" Rlje Films has released an official trailer for a futuristic save-the-world sci-fi project tiled 2067, from Australian filmmaker Seth Larney. After working in the VFX industry for years, he is jumping into directing - this is his second feature film. In the year 2067, people are living on artificial oxygen, but this synthetic O2 is killing humanity. A time machine sends a message back - send Ethan Whyte to save the world. But how? Only one way to find out. Kodi Smit-McPhee and Ryan Kwanten star, with Leeanna Walsman, Deborah Mailman, Sana'a Shaik, Finn Little, Damian Walshe-Howling, and Aaron Glenane. This looks really cool, definitely has some stunning visuals and that always gets my attention. But this trailer seems to give away the typical time travel reveal that you can't actually use time travel to save the past/future? I'm...

Aaron Glenane and Liv Hewson: Coping with quarantine
Aaron Glenane
Aaron Glenane and Liv Hewson.

Being in lockdown has prompted different responses from actors Aaron Glenane and Liv Hewson.

Glenane, who came back to Sydney from Los Angeles with his fiance and young child, admits he was “going nuts” so he had the idea of staging a live reading of Lyle Kessler’s play Orphans, which he performed at the Old Fitz Theatre five years ago.

He put the idea to Red Line Productions co-founder Andrew Henry, who reached out to Kessler. In turn Kessler approached Alec Baldwin, who starred in the Broadway production in 2013, the story of two orphaned brothers living in a decrepit North Philadelphia house.

The result was the first live streamed reading of the play, featuring Baldwin, Glenane and Henry, with stage directions and descriptions read by lifetime member of the Actors Studio Judy Jerome, on April 11/12.

Hewson is happy to be in South Korea working...

In demand at home, Mitzi Ruhlmann sets her sights on the Us
Mitzi Ruhlmann.

Mitzi Ruhlmann was five years old when she saw Phillip Noyce’s Stolen Generation drama Rabbit-Proof Fence, perhaps not an ideal experience for someone so young, but it had a profound impact.

From that moment on she was determined to become an actor, not a far-fetched ambition for a girl who spent a lot of time on film and TV sets watching her dad, cinematographer Danny Ruhlmann, at work.

(Ruhlmann Senior’s credits include the features The Nugget, The Night We Called It a Day and Little Fish and, most recently, the Netflix series Messiah, created by Aussie Michael Petroni and co-directed by Kate Woods, and Jupiter’s Legacy.)

Last month the 21-year-old came home after seven months in La auditioning for numerous roles. She’ll go back in February for pilot season.

Since she was 12 she has had a manager in the Us, Jennifer Gabler Rawlings, whom she...

Danger Close Clip Throws Luke Bracey Into War [Exclusive]
Travis Fimmel at an event for Lean on Pete (2017)
We have an exclusive clip from Saban's forthcoming Danger Close. The movie stars Travis Fimmel and Luke Bracey. Directed by Kriv Stenders, the movie is the first Australian project to take on the Vietnam War in 40 years, following 1979's The Odd Angry Shot. The movie hits select theaters this week and will also be On Demand. From the looks of things, Stenders let the acting take over the movie and kept the CGI to a minimum, giving it a bare bones and realistic feel.

In Danger Close, Major Harry Smith (Travis Fimmel) and his company of 108 young and inexperienced Australian and New Zealand soldiers are fighting for their lives in the 1966 Battle of Long Tan. With 2,500 battle-hardened Viet Cong soldiers closing in, their ammunition running out and casualties mounting, each man searches for the strength to triumph over an uncertain future with honor, decency and courage. The clip shows just...
