Kacey Musgraves Announces Landmark Sydney Opera House Debut
Kacey Musgraves in The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show (2019)
Visionary singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves is set to make a highly anticipated return to Australia, announcing two exclusive performances in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall. This engagement marks not only her first visit in six years but also her debut at the world-renowned venue, a significant milestone for the quietly revolutionary artist. Celebrated for her genre-defying sound and unflinching lyrical honesty, Musgraves will present material from her latest, critically lauded album, Deeper Well, alongside a curated selection of fan favourites from her decorated career.

Since her breakthrough with the Grammy-winning Same Trailer Different Park, Musgraves has consistently subverted the expectations of modern country music. Her artistic evolution is marked by a diverse discography, but it was the 2018 masterpiece Golden Hour that catapulted her to global acclaim. That album redefined her sonic landscape, trading traditional country instrumentation for a sun-drenched, reverb-laden production that seamlessly blended soft-rock, psychedelia, and even disco. It...

Atlantic Music Group Is Launching a Country Imprint
Image
Atlantic Music Group is launching a country records imprint called Atlantic Outpost, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter, marking just the latest sign of the coastal record labels’ increased presence in Nashville.

Atlantic Outpost will be headed by Atlantic’s co-head of pop A&r Jeff Levin and EVP of A&r Ian Cripps and based out of Los Angeles and Nashville. Billboard first reported the news of the launch, adding that the label is expected to announce signings soon. A rep for Atlantic didn’t respond to request for comment.

Atlantic is just the latest major coastal record label to further embed itself in the Nashville scene with an imprint, as country continues to be one of the hottest genres in the industry. Earlier this year, Universal Music Group’s Interscope Records had announced it was relaunching Lost Highway records, signing country superstar Kacey Musgraves as its first artist.

Apple Music Head Calls It “Crazy” Other Streaming Platforms Offer Music for Free
Image
Apple Music’s top executive Oliver Schusser weighed in on the cost of music during a keynote interview at the National Music Publisher Association’s annual meeting in New York on Wednesday, questioning how competing streaming platforms are still offering free tiers and suggesting it devalues music as an art form.

“I think it’s crazy that 20 years in, we still offer music for free,” Schusser, vp Apple Music and international content, told Nmpa CEO David Israelite during their discussion Wednesday evening. “We’re the only service that doesn’t have a free service. As a company, we look at music as art, and we would never want to give away art for free.

“It makes no sense to me,” Schusser continued. “We don’t have a free service, we will not have one, we have no plans for one.”

Schusser’s comments weren’t aimed at any one particular streaming service,...

Solo Leveling Sweeps Record Crunchyroll Anime Awards
Kacey Musgraves in The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show (2019)
Tokyo’s Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa shook with cheers on 25 May as the ninth Crunchyroll Anime Awards logged a record 51 million fan votes and crowned Solo Leveling Anime of the Year, the first manhwa-based adaptation to take the top prize.

The A-1 Pictures hit, adapted from Chugong’s South-Korean web novel, swept nine categories—including Best New Series, Best Action and Best Score—setting a single-ceremony benchmark that eclipsed previous franchise hauls. Crunchyroll hailed the outcome as evidence of anime’s “global influence,” noting celebrity presenters such as Kacey Musgraves and Stranger Things actors Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo helped drive worldwide streaming of the show’s bilingual broadcast.

While Solo Leveling dominated headlines, jurors also recognised quieter craft achievements: Keiichiro Saito claimed Best Director for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, which additionally won Best Drama and Background Art; Ufotable’s Demon Slayer – Hashira Training Arc repeated as Best Animation...

Chris Stapleton Delivers Heart-Swelling ‘It Takes a Woman’ at 2025 ACM Awards
Image
Chris Stapleton’s “It Takes a Woman,” off last year’s ACM Album of the Year winner Higher, is a solemn, honky-tonk-on-Prozac song of devotion that digs deep into male vulnerability. While it’s never been released as a single, its momentum has only built since Higher dropped more than a year and a half ago. And during Thursday night’s ACM Awards, Stapleton gave it yet another boost by delivering a deeply poignant and romantic performance of the ballad.

Stapleton’s performance came after he won Male Artist of...

Zach Bryan Signs New Deal With Warner Records
Image
Zach Bryan is staying at Warner Records, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The singer-songwriter has extended his deal with the label for at least two albums, sources say, with the deal closing over the weekend. Meanwhile, Bryan is also selling his publishing catalog, a source familiar with the matter confirms to THR, with the deals netting Bryan a reported $350 million.

Bryan first signed with Warner Records back in 2021 and is the perhaps the biggest artist on Warner’s roster, which has also had successes from the likes of Teddy Swims and Benson Boone. Bryan helped turn the label’s fortunes around as Warner morphed from a sleepy legacy label into one of the hottest companies in the business. His success in country music outside of the traditional Nashville system has inspired coastal labels across the industry to grow much more invested in the genre.

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out...

The Long Road to Lost Highway: How The Trailblazing Country Label Found Its Second Life
Image
The year was 2000. Y2K had come and gone without a hitch. Cell phones were still a novelty and not yet an appendage. And a decidedly analog album was taking the country by storm.

The arrival of O Brother, Where Art Thou in December of that year, a soundtrack that went on to sell over eight million copies and win two Grammys (including album of the year at the 2002 awards), put a little-known label called Lost Highway on the map. Its sound — a blend of Americana, bluegrass and Appalachian standards — hit a chord. The company’s roster, which included Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Lucinda Williams, Elvis Costello and eventually a 23-year-old newcomer named Kacey Musgraves, proved its vitality upon launch.

In many ways, Lost Highway was ahead of its time. It identified career artists that could thrive outside of the Nashville system and gave them the freedom to explore their own musical paths.

‘The Masked Singer’ Reveals Identity of Lucky Duck: Here Is the Celebrity Under the Costume
Image
Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 13, Episode 12 of “The Masked Singer,” “Semi-Finals Night,” which aired April 30 on Fox.

The case of Detective Lucky Duck was finally quacked on Wednesday’s episode of Fox’s “The Masked Singer.” Taika Waititi was the latest celebrity to be revealed on Season 13 of Fox’s “The Masked Singer,” playing the mysterious character that had popped up all season long on the show to share clues about the competition’s costumed contestants.

Lucky Duck appeared at the end of this week’s semi-finals episode, and instead of letting the show’s panelists guess his identity, he unmasked himself. And it was a familiar face for one of the show’s panelists: Waititi is husband to the show’s Rita Ora.

“Semi-Finals Night” brought together the final five contestants standing: Group A’s Coral, Group B’s Pearl and Boogie Woogie and Group C’s Mad Scientist Monster.

Kacey Musgraves on Returning to Country Music: ‘I Never Left’
Image
Kacey Musgraves is returning to the first label that signed her, Lost Highway Records, and she’s celebrating with a cover of the Hank Williams song that gave the imprint its name.

Lost Highway isn’t a new label, but an old Universal Music Group Nashville subsidiary that was founded in 2000, folded in 2012, and revived this year. During its original run, Lost Highway released a variety of acclaimed records in the intersecting areas of country, alternative, rock, and roots music, perhaps most notably the Grammy-winning soundtrack for the Coen Brothers’ O Brother,...

‘The Masked Singer’: Who Is Pearl? Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg Thinks an Elvis Clue Points to a Country Music Star | Exclusive Video
Image
We’re down to the semi-finals on “The Masked Singer,” with only four competitors remaining. And on this week’s episode of the Fox singing competition, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg thinks Pearl may just be Kacey Musgraves.

In TheWrap’s exclusive sneak peek at Wednesday night’s round of competition, McCarthy-Wahlberg zeroes in on a clue for Pearl that has to do with Elvis.

“She sang on the soundtrack to ‘Elvis,’ she’s won multiple AMAs,” she deduces. “I also went to her concert. I think this could be Kacey Musgraves!”

Host Nick Cannon immediately points out that the audience likes the guess, a stark contrast to the response fellow panelist Ken Jeong often gets.

Kacey Musgraves fits squarely into the realm of country singers though, which has been the way the panelists’ guesses have leaned on Pearl thus far. Previous guesses have included Shania Twain, Trisha Yearwood, Kellie Pickler and Carrie Underwood.

With a New Label Deal, Kacey Musgraves Faces the Future While Making Peace With Her Past (Exclusive)
Image
It’s a warm, cloudless April Saturday in Tennessee, and right now, Kacey Musgraves’ life is a Kacey Musgraves song. The singer-songwriter is driving southbound to rural Williamsport — exactly an hour from her Nashville home — where she’ll be going horseback riding and rambling along the river with a few friends.

“A good friend of mine has a beautiful farm on hundreds of acres,” she says in her Texas twang. “It’s on the Duck River, which is one of the most biologically diverse rivers in the world. It has all these specific species of things that don’t exist anywhere else. It’s really clean and beautiful, organic and peaceful. My friends and I go out there, bring a picnic and just live our best lives — barefoot, dirty, in the river. It’s so fun.”

Excursions like these have colored her songwriting on tracks like “Space Cowboy,” “Oh What a World,...

Watch Zach Bryan Cover Warren Zevon’s ‘Lawyers, Guns and Money’ at Stagecoach
Image
Zach Bryan debuted an unexpected, note-perfect version of Warren Zevon’s “Lawyers, Guns and Money” during his Stagecoach Festival headlining set Friday night, two days before the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the late singer-songwriter’s long-delayed induction.

Bryan introduced the 1978 track as his “favorite song of all time” midway through his two-hour set, before launching into a faithful rendition backed by a horn section. Bryan and one of his band members, Read Connolly, traded vocals on the song — Connolly’s singing voice turned out to sound quite a bit like Zevon’s.
