Writer/director David Ferino’s feature directorial debut, “Wardcliffe,” starring Joel McKinnon Miller and Shane Coffey.

Inspired by real events, Ferino’s script takes place over the course of a single day as Dennis (Miller) and his son Ronnie (Coffey) quarantine together during the 2020 pandemic lockdown. Decades of tension escalate to a boiling point when the two find themselves confined inside. And as the outside world is seized by confusion and terror, the gulf between the men becomes ever more pronounced, and ever more destructive.

Greenlight is an indie horror film from the Horror Collective. Centrally focused on Jack (Chase Williamson), this filmmaker will do whatever it takes to make a film. But, some of the cast and crew on Jack's next production might have taken their roles a little too far. This feature has won an Audience Award for "Best Suspense Film" at the Another Hole in the Head Film Festival. Now, Greenlight is getting set to leave the film festivals behind in favour of the Digital marketplace. Sugar Mountain‘s core premise is decent enough. Faced with repossession of their dead mother’s fishing boat (due to a Harvard concert pianist losing a couple of fingers after slipping on the deck), brothers Liam and Miles (Shane Coffey and Drew Roy), together with Miles’ girlfriend Lauren (Haley Webb) cook up a missing person hoax.

Here’s the plan: cocky and confident Miles will get into a staged bar fight with the quieter Liam over Lauren. The next day the brothers will go for a hike on the titular Sugar Mountain to try and clear the air, but get into a ‘fight’ midway up. Miles storms off into the wilderness and when he doesn’t return, Liam to raises the alarm in town. With Aron Ralston (of 127 Hours fame) firmly on their minds, they foresee a media storm that they’ll milk to the fullest when Miles ‘miraculously’ returns a fortnight later,...

Jason Momoa is set to make his big debut as Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” next year, but before we see the actor as the DC Comics superhero fans can see him as a ruthless thug in “Sugar Mountain.”

The thriller centers around two brothers, deep in debt with Momoa, who fake a disappearance in the wilderness so they’ll have a great survival story to sell. Their hoax quickly turns sour when their plan puts their lives at risk.

The film is directed by Richard Gray and also stars Drew Roy, Haley Webb, Shane Coffey, and Cary Elwes as the local sheriff who begins to suspect fowl play.

Actor Marc Senter, who came to horror audiences’ attention with his starring role of Ray Pye in Chris Sivertson’s 2006 indie darling The Lost, and who subsequently has appeared in Darren Lynn Bousman’s The Devil’s Carnival and Simon Rumley’s Red, White & Blue, caught up with us last night to chat the SXSW feature premiere of Starry Eyes, in which he stars.

Co-written and directed by Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch, Starry Eyes stars Alexandra Essoe, Amanda Fuller (Red, White & Blue), Fabianne Therese (John Dies at the End), Noah Segan (Looper), Shane Coffey (The Originals) and Senter, and revolves around aspiring Hollywood actress Sarah Walker (Essoe), who spends her days working a dead-end job, enduring petty friendships and going on countless casting calls in hopes of catching her big break. After a series of strange auditions, Sarah lands the leading role in a new film from a mysterious production company.

The BBQs are fired up, the red carpets rolled out and the finishing touches are being put on the SXSW Film Festival, which kicks off in Austin today. Over the next week or so, indie selections, world cinema, documentaries and more will screening for the cinema faithful, but it's in the Midnighters section of programming where you can really let it hang loose. The selection of scare flicks offer up a chance for some primal fun, and "Starry Eyes" is hoping to get your pulse racing. Directors Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kölsch are behind this one, which stars Alexandra Essoe, Amanda Fuller, Fabianne Therese, Noah Segan, Shane Coffey, Natalie Castillo, Pat Healy, Marc Senter, Maria Olsen and Lou Dezseran, and tells the story of an aspiring actress who lands a movie role that transforms her mentally and physically into something terrifying. The ‘Midnighters’ lineup for SXSW 2014 has been announced and it includes the Us premiere of Oculus, the world premiere of Exists and Late Phases, and more. South By Southwest 2014 will take place from March 7 – 16 in Austin, Texas and the festival is known for its solid lineup of genre films. South by Southwest has unveiled 10 titles for its Midnighters lineup, including the world premiere of the Bigfoot found-footage film Exists, directed by Eduardo Sanchez – his first foray into found footage since 1999′s monster hit Blair Witch Project. The lineup also includes the U.S. premiere of Oculus, directed by Mike Flanagan, which topped our most anticipated horror films of 2014. Also set for the lineup is Adam Wingard’s The Guest, which premiered last month at Sundance to very positive reviews. The 21st edition of South by Southwest opens March 7 in Austin. SXSW top brass have announced the Midnighters and short film line-ups, set to screen when the festival runs in Austin, Texas, from March 7-15.

The Midnighters selections comprise eight world premieres and Us premiere and one film that previously screened at Sundance. Magnolia Pictures has acquired Us rights to one of the films, Stage Fright. See separate story.

The 113 shorts were chosen from a record 4,249 submissions, representing an increase of 19% over 2013.

The South by Southwest Film Festival has announced the titles which will screen as part of the Midnighters section, as well as the complete short film lineup.

The list includes 10 Midnighter titles (8 World Premieres, 1 U.S. premiere & 1 Sundance title), and 113 shorts, which were selected from a record 4,249 submissions, an overall increase of 19% over 2013.
