NCIS: Origins Cast Guide: Every Major New And Returning Character
Image
"NCIS: Origins" is a change of pace for CBS' long-running procedural franchise. As demonstrated by shows like the canceled "NCIS: New Orleans" and the short-lived "NCIS: Hawaii," the saga previously set its spin-offs in the present day but changed up the locations, leaving the door open to some exciting crossovers. "Origins," on the other hand, travels back to the 1990s and focuses on the Naval Investigative Service (which was later restructured as the Naval Criminal Investigative Service) during a time when some familiar characters were still rising through the ranks -- and dealing with some serious personal drama outside of work.

The prequel aspect of the show allows "NCIS: Origins" to answer some long-lingering questions fans of the property have been asking for years, such as what actually happened to Leroy Jethro Gibbs' wife and daughter prior to "NCIS" and why he came up with some of his famous rules.

Jeffrey Wright and Riley Keough in Hold the Dark (2018)
True Detective: Night Country Fans Should Watch This Explosive Netflix Movie
Jeffrey Wright and Riley Keough in Hold the Dark (2018)
Set in the remote town of Ennis, Alaska, True Detective: Night Country is a gorgeous and achingly cold season of television. In stark contrast to the southern-baked heat of True Detective's first three seasons, Issa Lpez's addition to the popular HBO franchise was one of recent television's most original takes on the crime genre. In fact, to find a story with a similar setting and tone, one would have to search for not another television show but an underrated Netflix film called Hold the Dark.

Starring Jeffrey Wright as a writer who moonlights as a wolf expert who's been called to a small Alaskan town to investigate the disappearance of three young children, Hold the Dark is every bit as mysterious, supernatural, and, yes, cold as True Detective: Night Country. And much like that incredibly popular television series, as this haunting and violent suspense film twists and turns toward its climax,...

NCIS: Origins Star Reveals Mark Harmon's Advice for Playing the Younger Gibbs
Image
This fall, Leroy Jethro Gibbs will have his backstory explored with the all-new television series NCIS: Origins. The prequel show will star Austin Stowell as the younger Gibbs, though Mark Harmon will be voicing the older version of the character as the series narrator.

Per TV Insider, Stowell opened up on taking over the role of Gibbs after Harmon had spent years establishing the character in NCIS. With this in mind, Stowell knows that it will be a challenge to make the character his own, so he's been doing his very best to prepare. This includes watching numerous episodes of NCIS to try and better get into the mind of the Gibbs character. Stowell also noted how working with Harmon on the series has helped the process, going on to share the advice that was given with playing Gibbs moving forward.

Predator: Badlands Leaked Casting Call Reveals Intriguing Details On Elle Fanning's Character(s)
Image
Earlier this year, we got word that 20th Century Studios and director Dan Trachtenberg were in the process of developing a new standalone Predator movie in addition to a Prey sequel, with Elle Fanning set to star. Now, the first plot details have been shared online via AvPGalaxy.net.

Filming is believed to be underway in New Zealand under the working title Backpack, and thanks to a leaked casting call, we have an intriguing logline and details on the two main characters.

"A groundbreaking film in which one of the two main storylines delves into the intricate bond of two very different sisters, their familial ties are put to the ultimate test as they pursue divergent paths and missions."

It seems the leads will be twin sisters, meaning Fanning - assuming these are the characters she's been cast as - will play a dual role.

"The first, Thia, identifies as female or non-binary,...

'We Did Solve It': NCIS: Origins Showrunner Clears Up Potential Plot Hole
Image
NCIS: Origins co-showrunner David North promises the series has a solution for a concerning plot hole.

Per TVLine, North addressed the concern that the upcoming prequel series will have to navigate one of NCIS' lead character Jethro Gibbs' most defining characteristics - the relationship with his father, Jackson. "We did solve it," North said. "We're very aware of the canon and what's been set up, and we're working within that. But I'll say this: Jackson (to be played by Longmire's Robert Taylor) is an important role, and we'll see the influence of him on Gibbs."

NCIS: Origins Showrunner Addresses Potential Plot Hole Involving Gibbs' Dad
Image
NCIS: Origins co-showrunner David North has addressed concerns that the show featuring Gibbs' father would be a plot hole. He said that the creators are aware of the canon of NCIS, which is that Gibbs and his father have not spoken since his wife Shannon's funeral. This quote may indicate that the show largely involves Jackson Gibbs in flashback sequences.

A potential NCIS: Origins plot hole involving Gibbs' father has been addressed. The upcoming show is a prequel to the iconic crime procedural following the early years of long-running major character Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, now played by Austin Stowell, though original star Mark Harmon is set to provide voiceover narration for the series. Young versions of other characters from the original cast will also appear in the NCIS: Origins show, including Kyle Schmid as Gibbs' mentor Special Agent Mike Franks (originally played by Muse Watson) and Robert Taylor...

Stars: Amber Midthunder, Dane Diliegro, Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat, Dakota Beavers, Michelle Thrush, Geronimo Vela, Stefany Mathias, Stormee Kipp, Mike Paterson, Julian Black Antelope | Written by Patrick Aison, Dan Trachtenberg | Directed by Dan Trachtenberg

The Predator franchise gets a stealth prequel in the shape of this smartly written sci-fi thriller that has the dreadlocked alien super-hunter under-estimating a worthy new opponent. In terms of sequels, Prey is comfortably the best Predator film since the 1987 original, though admittedly, that’s not a particularly high bar to clear.

Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (whose franchise-tweaking credentials were previously showcased in 10 Cloverfield Lane), Prey is set in 1719, on the Great Plains, where young Comanche tribeswoman Naru (Amber Midthunder) is desperate to become a warrior, fighting alongside her brother Taabe (Dakota Beavers). She finally gets her chance when she’s invited to participate in the ritual of kühtaamia and hunt and kill a vicious animal, before...

Prey Director Dan Trachtenberg On Introducing A New Generation To Predator Lore
Image
Prey takes place in the 1700s and explores the story of Naru, a Comanche healer and tracker who yearns to become a warrior. Director Dan Trachtenberg wanted to create a film that could be as nonverbal and action-oriented as possible, while still being emotional. The movie aims to introduce the Predator lore to a new audience while tapping into an earlier era and showcasing a Native American protagonist.

Prey is the fifth installment in the Predator franchise, set hundreds of years before the original movie. Set in the Northern Great Plains in 1719, the movie follows Naru, an accomplished Comanche healer and tracker who yearns to become a warrior. Although overshadowed by her brother Taabe, a skilled hunter, Naru sees her chance for the big hunt, a rite of passage in her tribe. Naru will face a much more sinister and dangerous threat than anything she or the others have seen before.
