After almost ten long years, one of TV’s most brutal historical sagas returns this winter with a new house, and a new vision for its future. Spartacus: House of Ashur is bringing back the sandaled-sex and sword-swinging violence that made the original show and its sequels a hit – even if it was a little overshadowed by a certain HBO series about thrones and dragons. Now a new trailer for the upcoming revival is reminding everyone of just how gloriously gory the series was and will be once again.
Revealed at Sdcc, the trailer for Spartacus: House of Ashur brings plenty of blood and gore, a little bit of steamy action that has nothing to do with Roman baths, and the kind of stylized epic visuals that made the show a standout during its original series. Can House of Ashur bring a whole new audience to the Spartacus saga? Check...

We didn't even know we needed this, but as soon as it was announced, we started counting down the days for Spartacus: House of Ashur. The series premieres this fall, and today at Sdcc, attendees finally had the chance to check out the full trailer for the upcoming series.

Spartacus: House of Ashur took over San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, as Starz announced a winter premiere for the series and revealed a first look at the series in a teaser trailer below.
Spartacus: House of Ashur is a thrilling, erotic, history-bending, roller-coaster experience that builds on everything that made the original series a colossal hit. What if he lived, and the Romans rewarded his treachery with the gladiator school where he once bled? Welcome to the House of Ashur. No longer a slave, Ashur has clawed his way to power, owning the same ludus that once owned him.
But ruling a band of merciless gladiators is child’s play compared to surviving the savage world of Roman politics — a cutthroat game in which betrayal isn’t a sin, it’s currency. He flips tradition on its head by unleashing Achillia, a fierce and powerful gladiatrix eager to prove herself...

Hail Caesar! However, in the time period within which the upcoming Starz drama, Spartacus: House of Ashur, is set, no one is really hailing him. At this point in history, Gaius Julius Caesar is not yet the powerful, all-conquering Roman general who became dictator of Rome. Original Spartacus creator, Steven DeKnight, has returned to the world depicted in Starz's epic series. Set in an alternate reality, one of the original series' most hated villains, Ashur (Nick Tarabay), does not meet his death at Mount Vesuvius, but instead is rewarded with the Ludus of Batiatus (John Hannah) for helping the Romans kill Spartacus and ending his rebellion. In the process of crafting his story for the upcoming sequel, DeKnight needed another key figure to return.
Todd Lasance — now of NCIS: Sydney — played the key role of Julius Caesar in the 2010 series. While DeKnight wanted the actor to return to the role in the upcoming sequel,...

Starz's upcoming Spartacus: House of Ashur series will bring back some familiar faces, but there's one new actor who will actually portray a returning character.
Spartacus has consistently maintained a loyal cult following over the past 15 years. The series began in 2010 and ran three seasons with a six-episode prequel series, Gods of the Arena. It was based on the historical character of the slave-turned-gladiator who breaks free and organizes a rebellion against Rome.
Among the various characters was Ashur (Nick E. Tarabay), a former slave who, following an injury, earned his freedom. A rather slimy conniver always ready to sell out anyone to save his own skin, Ashur seemingly met his end in season 2. This new series imagines that Ashur survived, aided the Romans in putting down Spartacus' rebellion, and was rewarded with his own gladiator house.

The dream of every gladiator when he or she steps onto the sands of an arena is victory, and an opportunity to rise to the very top as champion. Over a decade since it aired, but Starz's epic series, Spartacus, is still dominating the streaming charts, much like the gladiators within did. The original series ran from 2010 to 2013, returning audiences to the gladiator world and Ancient Rome. Thankfully, the long-awaited sequel series, Spartacus: House of Ashur, will premiere this fall, and is we near its premiere, interest in the original series continues to grow. According to data sourced from FlixPatrol, the blood-soaked Spartacus series is the number one television series streaming on Starz right now. While Power and its spin-offs occupy positions in the lower half of the Top 10, the Top 5 is completed by Three Women, Sweetpea, Outlander, and Bmf. The gladiatorial series' performance is even more impressive when...

The new Spartacus series, House of Ashur, is coming to Starz this fall, and creator Steven S. DeKnight is ready to tell a different story. DeKnight told Entertainment Weekly that the original Spartacus show was a big challenge for him.
He said, “I think I needed a decade to recuperate from the original experience, which was wonderful, but just grueling and emotionally gut wrenching.” The death of Andy Whitfield, the first actor to play Spartacus, made it even harder.
For years, Starz asked DeKnight to come back and make more Spartacus, but he wasn’t ready. When he finally felt up to it, he thought about new ideas. He considered famous Roman stories like Caesar and Antony and Cleopatra but found them expensive and overdone. Instead, he chose to focus on a less-known character from the original show — Ashur.

The new Spartacus series, House of Ashur, is finally coming to Starz this fall, and creator Steven S. DeKnight is ready to tell a fresh story. DeKnight shared with Entertainment Weekly that the original Spartacus show left a big mark on him.
After the tough experience of making the first series, and the heartbreaking loss of Andy Whitfield, who played Spartacus and died from cancer, DeKnight needed time to recover. For years, Starz kept asking DeKnight if he wanted to return to the Spartacus world, but he kept saying no because it was too hard. Then, finally, he felt ready. He began thinking about new ideas but realized many famous Roman stories had been told many times and were very expensive to make.

When it was announced that Spartacus was returning with a new sequel series, fans were surprised by some things about the announcement. The biggest one was that the new series would follow Ashur (Nick E. Tarabay), a character who met a pretty much irreversible end in Spartacus: Vengeance. However, showrunner Steven S. DeKnight explained that Spartacus: House of Ashur takes place in an alternate reality. During a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the series creator revealed what other characters are going to return for the new series.
During the interview, DeKnight revealed that Starz wanted to do a Spartacus follow-up for years, but a number of events got in the way. He mentioned the premature death of Andy Whitfield, who was the title character in the debut season — he was replaced by Liam McIntyre (Bring Him To Me). The showrunner revealed that Whitfield's death "took the wind out of everybody's sails,...

Just over a decade ago, director Renny Harlin introduced audiences to The Legend of Hercules and probably quickly wished he hadn’t. The film arrived in January 2014 with a substantial $70 million budget and an action-focused cast led by Kellan Lutz, Scott Adkins, Gaia Weiss, and Liam McIntyre. Although the line-up seemed to scream big action, the critics came in like an almighty Cyclops and crushed the film to dust. But, 10 years is a long time, and now a whole new audience is discovering The Legend of Hercules on Freevee.
The film’s story centers on Hercules (Lutz), born from a tryst between the mortal Queen Alcmene and the god Zeus. The boy becomes a man, a formidable warrior, and one burdened by a prophecy that threatens to unravel the power held by King Amphitryon (Adkins). “Spartacus” is back — just without a Spartacus.
On Wednesday, January 15, Starz released the first-look teaser trailer for “Spartacus: House of Ashur,” a sequel to its original three-season “Spartacus” series, which started in 2010 with “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” continued with “Spartacus: Vengeance,” and concluded in 2013 with “Spartacus: War of the Damned.” Between “Blood and Sand” and “Vengeance,” Starz made a six-episode miniseries “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.”
(Spartacus, by the way, is a real historical figure. He was a Thracian gladiator and one of the escaped slaves who led an uprising against the Roman Republic in the early first century BC. Andy Whitfield played Spartacus for the first season and provided a brief voiceover for its prequel. At the time, he was battling stage IV non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Whitfield died in 2011; Liam McIntyre took over the role in Seasons 2 and 3. Kirk Douglas famously played Spartacus in Stanley Kubrick’s 1960 film.)

Can you believe it’s been over a decade since Spartacus first brought its blood-soaked, action-packed drama to our screens? Back in 2010, this hit show redefined the historical epics with its unapologetic intense storytelling and raw actions. Though Gladiator and Rome did lay the groundwork for sword-and-sandal greatness, Spartacus intensified the level, delivering four seasons of unforgettable action.
Of course, it wasn’t just the on-screen drama that had us hooked to our screens, behind the scenes, the heartbreaking loss of Andy Whitfield after Season 1 broke our hearts. But the series persevered, with Liam McIntyre stepping in to finish this epic saga of the Thracian rebel leader.

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks."
"Star Trek: Lower Decks" season 5, episode 5, "Starbase 80?!," follows the U.S.S. Cerritos as it becomes stranded in space due to a mysterious navigational malfunction. With only impulse engines operational, the ship has no choice but to visit Starbase 80 for help. Starbase 80 had previously only been mentioned in hushed tones among the Cerritos' crew, as it is said to be cursed. At the very least, it's the worst place to work in all of Starfleet, even worse than the Cerritos.
When the crew arrives, they find the "Star Trek" equivalent of a long-ignored truck stop. Starbase 80's crew members wear uniforms that are two centuries out of date, while the station's diplomatic liaison, Cassia Knox (Nicole Byer), reveals that its technology hasn't been updated since the 2260s. That, Trekkies might instantly recognize, was the decade the original "Star Trek" series took place.

The report states that her appearance “will be instrumental in setting up the ‘what if’ alternate timeline.” In a statement on X, creator Steven DeKnight said, “The gods bless the House of Ashur! Thrilled to have the amazing [Lucy Lawless] dropping in to grace us with her awesome presence!“
House of Ashur is described as a “history-bending, erotic, thrilling, roller-coaster experience that builds on everything that made the original series a colossal hit. The series poses the question: what if Ashur, played by fan favorite Nick Tarabay, hadn’t died on Mount Vesuvius at the end of Spartacus: Vengeance? And what if he had been gifted...

A Gears of War 6 reveal is potentially happening in June, as hinted by a voice actor. There's no date yet for the showcase, but early June is likely. The fate of Gears of War character Jd Fenix could also be revealed at this point.
It's been a while since a new entry in the Gears of War series, but there's good reason to believe that a reveal of the next game could be happening in the near future. Gears of War 5 released in 2019, so the signature series hasn't yet made a current generation debut with a new mainline game on the Xbox Series X/S. There isn't anything quite like its bulked-up brand of third-person shooter gameplay, and as the gap between games nears the five-year mark, it definitely feels like time for a new entry.
