Jannelle So's the only Filipina immigrant seen on American TV every day. She made a name for herself in Southern California as the host/producer of So. Cal's first daily show for & about Filipinos, Kababayan Today (2006), for which her hard work was recognized by
different prestigious Filipino organizations such as Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA) & Filipino-American Library. She also lends herself to other non-profit organizations in So. Cal as event emcee and as keynote speaker.
Prior to immigrating to the U.S., she was an accomplished media practitioner in the Philippines, where she had a 6-year print & broadcast journalism career, which includes coverage of top local & international events such as the 1997 ASEAN Informal Summit in Malaysia, 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, the 2002 Asian Games in Korea, 1998 Filipino Presidential elections, 2000 centennial celebrations in the Philippines & 2006 NBA All-Star Weekend in Houston. She has also covered the last 10 fights of Filipino boxing pride Manny Pacquiao.
She holds a B.A. in communication arts, graduated cum laude & was awarded second honors in the whole graduating class from Miriam College in the Philippines, where she was an honor scholar. In 1998, she was nominated for the Top 10 Most Outstanding students of the Philippines. In L.A., she took up a certificate course in print & broadcast journalism at UCLA.
As a popular & successful daily talk/magazine show, Kababayan Today (2006) celebrated its 5th anniversary in 2011. She got honorable mention from the L.A. Press Club at the 53rd Annual Southern California Journalism Awards. She was named 1 of the 100 Most Influential Filipinas in the U.S. by Filipina Women's Network, an esteemed Filipino group based in San Francisco. She's now host of So Jannelle (2018).
