[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Kung Fu Season 2 Finale] The Season 2 finale of The CW‘s martial arts drama Kung Fu left viewers reeling on Wednesday, June 15, as Zhilan (Yvonne Chapman) sacrificed herself to defeat the evil Russell Tan. The heartbreaking scenes certainly left their mark on the show’s star. “I was sobbing reading the finale when she said, ‘Go home, little monk,'” Olivia Liang, who plays Nicky, told TVLine. “I was like, ‘Man, how has that now become a term of endearment when [Zhilan has] been poking fun at Nicky for being a Shaolin [practitioner]?'” Nicky and Zhilan had been adversaries throughout the series, but in the Season 2 finale, Zhilan made a heroic gesture, sacrificing herself to trap Russell Tan in the Source Realm. This gave enough time for Nicky and her cousin Mia (Vanessa Yao) to make it back to the real world before the realm closed. Whether this is truly the end...

Vanessa Yao has been an excellent addition to the Kung Fu family.

Debuting on Kung Fu Season 2 Episode 1 as Mia, Nicky's cousin, the character has quickly become one of the most popular on the show.

Vanessa opened up about what attracted her to the series, revealing that she got to watch all of Kung Fu Season 1 before landing the role.

"I binge-watched the whole thing, so I didn't have to wait like every week to see it. I loved the characters. It's so great to see the Asian representation," the star shared.

"That's something that's very rare, so it was definitely something like very eye-opening just to see different pieces of things that were like relatable."

"Another part would probably be the action sequences involved with it. They are amazing."

"When I did get the audition for Mia, I could feel that there was a lot to her. She was not one-dimensional.

If the Biange blossom peeking through a San Francisco sidewalk at the end of Kung Fu‘s first season is any indication, we’ve only scratched the surface of the magical lore in the CW series.

Season 2, premiering next Wednesday at 9/8c, will expand upon those mystical elements as Nicky continues to protect Chinatown with her impressive kung fu skills. After avenging Pei-Ling’s death, watching Zhilan carted away to prison and her family accepting her heroic status, she starts the new season in a great place.
