There is a sequence in the romantic crime dramedy Broadway where a lot of things clicked with me. Street performer Nelly (Elsa Lekakou) is dragged by policeme. Suddenly, a mob of queer queens swarm in to snatch them from the police. A few moments later, Nelly is reunited with fellow performer Jonas/Barbara (Foivos Papadopoulos). They kiss and rejoice to the orchestral version of Irene Cara’s “Fame”, that they were performing before this arrest.
This scene, which paves way for the film's midpoint, negotiates a variety of tones in a circular structure demonstrating Broadway's sophisticated storytelling. Christos Massalas' surprisingly thoughtful feature film mixes complex imagery, delicate writing, and sensitively portrayed romance with rhythmic movement and striking craft...

Screen Rant is proud to present the first official trailer for Broadway, which hits select theaters in New York and Los Angeles on April 28th and Digital and DVD on May 16th. Distributed by Dark Star Pictures, the crime drama centers around a group of thieving street performers in modern Athens. While they originally find solace in an abandoned entertainment complex, the group's dynamic is offset by a newcomer who is wanted dead by the mafia.
Christos Massalas serves as writer and director of the film and has previously received several awards and nominations for his shorts Copa-Loca, Flowers and Bottoms, and Make Up. With a runtime of 97 minutes, Broadway is Massalas' feature film debut. Starring Elsa Lekakou as Nelly, the ensemble cast also includes Foivos Papadopoulos as Barbara/Jonas, Stathis Apostolou as Markos, Rafael Papad as Rudolph, and Salim Talbi as Mohammad.
