Korean filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho’s three animated feature films – “King of Pigs”, “The Fake”, and “Seoul Station” – were highly entertaining ones, loaded with plenty of social messages. The premise of his animated features usually explores non-traditional genres, less prevalent in the South Korean film industry. It would certainly remind us of the works of acclaimed Korean auteur Bong Joon-ho. But, unlike Bong’s movies, Yeon’s animated films aren’t as profound or subtle in their indictment of class structures or other timely themes.

With his first live-action movie Train to Busan (2016), director Yeon Sang-ho has ventured into a wholly entertaining premise of rapidly spreading zombie infection inside a high-speed Ktx train, while also clamorously shoving in sociopolitical messages. Yeon may not have achieved the mastery of Bong Joon-ho in mixing up the genres or in building intricate characters, although he makes up for that through his flawless technical skills...

Welcome to Samdal-ri, the Korean drama starring Ji Chang-wook and Shin Hye-sun ended last month. Released in December 2023, the Kdrama received a lot of love from viewers worldwide. Even though it has been 2 weeks since the last episode aired, fans can’t stop discussing the beauty of the show’s storytelling, the characters and the performances.

However, actor Ji Chang-wook recently faced flak from some fans for smoking. On January 26, the Welcome to Samdal-ri team released a behind-the-scenes video featuring Chang-wook and other actors. In the video, the Healer actor smokes an electronic cigarette on the set. To the uninitiated, it is not legal in South Korea to smoke or vape in public places. Smokers must smoke only in designated smoking areas.

In South Korea, fans don’t spare celebrities for breaking rules. Hence, after the video was released, many expressed their disappointment on social media.

Trailer for Korean rampaging giant pig movie Chaw. Jeong-won Shin directs a cast that includes Josiah D. Lee (The Red Machine) Yu-mi Jeong (A Bittersweet Life). The IMDb describes the movie as "a black comedy about the events that are set into motion in a town after a man-eating boar goes on a rampage."

While you might laugh, it's not the first time a movie has been made bout a giant boar on the rampage. I've always been a fan of Russell Mulcahy's (Resident Evil: Extinction) 1984 big box VHS classic Razorback. A film about a crazed giant boar that terrorizes the Australian outback.
