- After Citigroup, went to Bloomberg, starting as a producer and, in late 2005, joined CNBC.
- In 1998, after graduation from Williams College, got a job as an analyst at Goldman Sachs. After one year, wrote a letter to Willow Bay at CNN. Bay hired her as her assistant at CNN, but Burnett quit shortly thereafter to work at Citigroup on an Internet media startup.
- Played lacrosse and field hockey in college, earning Second Team All-NESCAC conference honors as an attack in 1997 for the latter sport.
- Has three children with her husband David Rubulotta: a son Nyle Thomas Burnett Rubulotta (b. November 29, 2013), a daughter Colby Isabelle Burnett Rubulotta (b. July 18, 2015) and another son Owen Thomas Burnett Rubulotta (b. August 20, 2018).
- Graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, in 1998 with a Bachelor's degree in Political Economy.
- Attended St. Andrews, a boarding school in Middleton, Delaware.
- Raised on a farm outside Mardela Springs, Maryland, on the eastern shore of Chesapeake Bay.

- (December 21, 2012) Married her boyfriend of 9 years David Rubulotta following a 15-month-long engagement. Burnett met her future finance executive on a blind date in 2003.
