Image
"Long live Korea!" Cj Entertainment has revealed two official trailers for a Korean historical biopic movie called Hero, not to be confused with Zhang Yimou's iconic martial arts epic also called Hero (from 2002). This one is about a different hero, a Korean independence fighter from the early 1900s pushing back against the Japanese occupation – An Jung-geun, an independence activist who assassinated Itō Hirobumi, the first Prime Minister of Japan and Resident-General of Korea in 1909. It's based on a musical from the stage, and has been adapted for the screen also as a musical. Starring Chung Sung Hwa as An Jung-geun, with Kim Go Eun, Na Moon Hee, Cho Chae Yun, Bae Jung Nam, Jo Woo Jin, Park Jin Joo, and Lee Hyun Woo. China makes first Korean film available to stream in six years
Image
Tencent Video is hosting an award-winning feature by Hong Sang-soo.

A Korean film is streaming on a mainland China Ott site for the first time in six years, South Korea’s presidential office announced in Seoul today (November 22).

Chinese streaming platform Tencent Video started streaming Hong Sang-soo’s Hotel By The River - the auteur’s award-winning film from 2018 – earlier this month.

It marks the first South Korean film to be made available to stream in China since Beijing effectively banned South Korean content after the US anti-ballistic missile system Thaad (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) was stationed in the peninsular nation.

Image

Chie Hayakawa’s “Plan 75” surprised Cannes Film Festival with a bleak and shocking vision to solve the problem of Japan’s rapidly ageing population. Director Lee Soon-sung takes a much brighter and cheerful approach to the subject in “My Perfect Roommate”, his debut feature.

Geum-boon is a 70-year-old lady who has always lived alone, with no family to call her own. Ji-woong is a university student who is a regular part-timer, doing any job he can to make and save money. As part of the government’s Saving Rent Project with Elderly Living Alone Programme, the two find themselves having to live together, which is an adjustment for both. Geum-boon suddenly finds herself having to adapt to having someone else in her domicile. She isn’t the easiest person to live with, a grumpy old lady who...
