The team at Variable State has more to say about their upcoming sci-fi horror title Deepest Fear since its initial reveal last December. The devs have dropped an all-new developer sneak-peek at the Future Games Show, demonstrating the game’s claustrophobia, as well as offering up developer commentary from Game Director at Variable State, Jonathan Burroughs.
The immersive sim/Metroidvania hybrid forces players to contend with and manipulate real time fluid simulations whilst combatting enemies which spawn from any water source. The developers are hoping to build a spiritual successor to System Shock 2 and 2017’s Prey, but also one which is highly unique and original.
Channeling the spirit of iconic and subversive 1980s horror action films such as John Carpenter’s The Thing, The Fly and The Abyss, Deepest Fear puts players in the role of Dr. Danni Carroll and into the labyrinthine depths of Neptune, a retro-futuristic facility hiding secrets and dangerous truths.
