From prehistoric campfire tales to modern movies and video games, storytelling has come a long way since we first began expressing ourselves through fiction. In fact, it seems that every time we invent a form of communication, someone comes along and discovers a way to use it to tell stories in new and interesting ways. And if any medium comes close to defining the spirit of 21st century storytelling, it would have to be Alternate Reality Games.

Commonly defined as a kind of interactive fiction that incorporates several different forms of media into a cohesive narrative that supposedly takes place in real life, ARGs have been steadily growing in popularity since the 2000s – especially when it comes to horror. And with A24 currently developing a big screen adaptation of Kane Pixel’s immensely popular The Backrooms, we’ve decided to come up with a list highlighting six other ARGs that Hollywood should adapt next.

Syfy has canceled the horror anthology series “Channel Zero,” creator Nick Antosca announced on Tuesday.

“After 4 seasons, Channel Zero is no more at Syfy,” the showrunner wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday. “I loved making this show and I would have loved to do more… but I can’t complain too much about doing 4 stories I loved with people who I loved working with.”

He continued, “People like our writers, our actors, our extraordinary crew, the artists who contributed, our editors and post team, our composer Jeff Russo, our team at Syfy and Ucp. And especially the four awesome directors, Craig Macneill, Steven Piet, Arkasha Stevenson, and Evan Katz.”

There will be no Season 5 of Nick Antosca’s well received horror anthology series Channel Zero. Syfy previously had ordered a third and fourth installment of the anthology ahead of its second season premiere.

Antosca served as executive producer, showrunner and writer on Channel Zero. He first announced the cancellation on Instagram, and Syfy has confirmed.

“After 4 seasons, Channel Zero is no more at Syfy,” Antosca wrote. He went on to thank the show’s writers, actors, crew, et al. You can read his entire post below the story.

Each installment of the Channel Zero anthology was based on a “creepypasta” (user-generated horror stories published online). The first installment, the six-part Candle Cove, centered on Kris Straub’s unnerving story of one man’s obsessive recollection of a mysterious children’s television program from the 1980s.

The series was produced by Universal Cable Prods. Next for Syfy is the debut of Deadly Class.

After four deliciously dark seasons on Syfy, the network has decided not to move forward with a fifth installment of Channel Zero.

Channel Zero creator, executive producer, and writer Nick Antosca shared the somber news on Instagram. While the creepypasta-based series is no more on Syfy, that doesn't mean that we won't see new seasons in the future at another network or streaming service (as Antosca hints at the end of his Instagram post).

Channel Zero has found a resurgence in viewership on AMC's Shudder, with the first three seasons of the anthology series currently available to watch on the streaming service. With their new Creepshow anthology series premiering this year, Shudder has been expanding their original content, and it seems like new seasons of Channel Zero would be a perfect fit for the streaming service.

AMC Networks’ premium service Shudder will be the exclusive streaming home for Channel Zero, the Syfy horror series.

Created for television by Nick Antosca and produced by Universal Cable Productions (Ucp), each six-episode installment features a new cast, new director and a new story arc. Shudder members can stream the first installment of Channel Zero starting Thursday, August 9, followed by the second installment in September, the third installment in October, and the fourth installment in 2019.

Earlier this year, Syfy announced that Channel Zero, an anthology series based on online horror stories known as "creepypastas," had been renewed for third and fourth seasons. While the first season brought Kris Straub's unnerving Candle Cove to life on the small screen, season 2 of the series—premiering in October—will adapt Brian Russell's NoEnd House for television. The third season's source material is currently unknown, but the first casting details have now been revealed.

Deadline reports that Brandon Scott (Blair Witch, Guerrilla) and Holland Roden (MTV's Teen Wolf series) are set to star in the third season of Channel Zero, which is expected to premiere sometime in 2018. According to Deadline, Scott will play "Officer Luke Vanczyk, a young but already jaded cop, living in the shadow of his father, the Chief of Police. Luke’s world-weary exterior hides a fierce commitment to justice, and a deep love for his troubled community.

After witnessing the horrors of Candle Cove, viewers haven't even stepped into the No-End House yet, but Syfy and Universal Cable Productions have already renewed the anthology horror series Channel Zero for a third and fourth season, with Ucp also inking a deal with the series' executive producer Nick Antosca to create additional programming.

Each season of Channel Zero brings a creepypasta to life on screen, and while it's not yet known which creepypastas will be the focus of the show's third and fourth seasons, viewers can look forward to seeing the adaptation of Brian Russell's NoEnd House in season 2 of the series, premiering this October.

Each one is scarier than the last.” After traveling to Candle Cove in season 1 of Channel Zero, showrunner Nick Antosca and company will enter a new kind of haunted house in next season’s No-End House (based on Kris Straub’s creepypasta), and another cast member for the show has now been revealed.

According to Deadline, Aisha Dee (Sweet/Vicious, Chasing Life, Dead Gorgeous) plays a key role in Channel Zero: No-End House. Dee portrays Jules, the “stubbornly independent” best friend of Amy Forsyth’s character, Margot Sleator.
