From prehistoric campfire tales to modern movies and video games, storytelling has come a long way since we first began expressing ourselves through fiction. In fact, it seems that every time we invent a form of communication, someone comes along and discovers a way to use it to tell stories in new and interesting ways. And if any medium comes close to defining the spirit of 21st century storytelling, it would have to be Alternate Reality Games.
Commonly defined as a kind of interactive fiction that incorporates several different forms of media into a cohesive narrative that supposedly takes place in real life, ARGs have been steadily growing in popularity since the 2000s – especially when it comes to horror. And with A24 currently developing a big screen adaptation of Kane Pixel’s immensely popular The Backrooms, we’ve decided to come up with a list highlighting six other ARGs that Hollywood should adapt next.

There will be no Season 5 of Nick Antosca’s well received horror anthology series Channel Zero. Syfy previously had ordered a third and fourth installment of the anthology ahead of its second season premiere.
Antosca served as executive producer, showrunner and writer on Channel Zero. He first announced the cancellation on Instagram, and Syfy has confirmed.
“After 4 seasons, Channel Zero is no more at Syfy,” Antosca wrote. He went on to thank the show’s writers, actors, crew, et al. You can read his entire post below the story.
Each installment of the Channel Zero anthology was based on a “creepypasta” (user-generated horror stories published online). The first installment, the six-part Candle Cove, centered on Kris Straub’s unnerving story of one man’s obsessive recollection of a mysterious children’s television program from the 1980s.
The series was produced by Universal Cable Prods. Next for Syfy is the debut of Deadly Class.

After four deliciously dark seasons on Syfy, the network has decided not to move forward with a fifth installment of Channel Zero.
Channel Zero creator, executive producer, and writer Nick Antosca shared the somber news on Instagram. While the creepypasta-based series is no more on Syfy, that doesn't mean that we won't see new seasons in the future at another network or streaming service (as Antosca hints at the end of his Instagram post).
Channel Zero has found a resurgence in viewership on AMC's Shudder, with the first three seasons of the anthology series currently available to watch on the streaming service. With their new Creepshow anthology series premiering this year, Shudder has been expanding their original content, and it seems like new seasons of Channel Zero would be a perfect fit for the streaming service.
Time will tell, and we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on all things Channel Zero in the future.

The immersive experience in Channel Zero: No-End House isn't just scary, it manipulates memories on a mental level, burrowing into the psyches of those unfortunate enough to enter its six sinister rooms, as evidenced by the latest trailer for the second season of the Syfy series.

Earlier this year, Syfy announced that Channel Zero, an anthology series based on online horror stories known as "creepypastas," had been renewed for third and fourth seasons. While the first season brought Kris Straub's unnerving Candle Cove to life on the small screen, season 2 of the series—premiering in October—will adapt Brian Russell's NoEnd House for television. The third season's source material is currently unknown, but the first casting details have now been revealed.
Deadline reports that Brandon Scott (Blair Witch, Guerrilla) and Holland Roden (MTV's Teen Wolf series) are set to star in the third season of Channel Zero, which is expected to premiere sometime in 2018. According to Deadline, Scott will play "Officer Luke Vanczyk, a young but already jaded cop, living in the shadow of his father, the Chief of Police. Luke’s world-weary exterior hides a fierce commitment to justice, and a deep love for his troubled community.

“It’s six rooms. Hey there, everyone! I sincerely hope this finds you all well (or at least coping) and eager (or at least willing) to take on a new year. I love doing year-end lists. For me, it’s a time of reflection, as well as expansion. Since I started with Daily Dead in April of 2015, my horror-view continues to grow; I’ve been so fortunate to meet and speak with some enduring legends of the genre, not to mention strike many new friendships through social media. But what my continuing immersion in this greatest of cultures has provided above all else is an appreciation for the variety and depth horror has to offer. It really has been a great year; unfortunately, I’ve missed some goodies, but dammit, I tried. So, without anymore ado whatsoever, here are a few (okay, a lot) of my favorite things from 2016.

It convinces children to kill and haunts those who survived its eerie effects. Based on the Creepypasta of the same name by Kris Straub, the puppet show Candle Cove is causing plenty of carnage in the first season of Syfy's Channel Zero, but, if you dare, you can now watch an episode of the unsettling show within a show. Just be wary when the Laughingstock tells you to "go inside" Bravery Cave.
"In the mood for a creepy puppet show? Here's an episode of the show that turns children into murderers.
Based on a popular "creepypasta" (user-generated horror stories that are published and passed around the Internet), Candle Cove centers on one man’s obsessive recollections of a mysterious children’s television program from the 1980s, and his ever-growing suspicions about the role it might have played in a series of nightmarish and deadly events from his childhood."

Last night I watched the first episode of Syfy's new horror anthology series Channel Zero: Candle Cove, and while it occasionally dragged in spots, director Craig Macneill (who helmed 2015's excellent budding-sociopath horror-thriller The Boy) managed to establish a quietly unnerving tone that feels unique to anything else on TV right now. Based on an internet "creepypasta" written by Kris Straub, the show created by Nick Antosca (Hannibal) is a little bit X-Files with more than a dash of Stephen King, shot through with Macneill's off-center sensibilities. For those who aren't familiar with Channel Zero, Season 1 centers on child psychologist Mike Painter (Parks and Rec's Paul Schneider), who returns to his hometown nearly three decades after his twin brother and several other children were found murdered after watching a bizarre children's TV series entitled Candle Cove (for more specifics, you can read my explainer piece on the series...

Thanks in large part to the ongoing success of FX's American Horror Story, horror anthologies have become a hot commodity on TV again, and Syfy's Channel Zero is hoping to cash in on that trend with "Candle Cove," the first season of a new series that takes its inspiration from the internet phenomenon known as "creepypasta." For the uninitiated, "creepypasta" is a term coined to describe user-generated horror stories online that typically take the form of message board posts, and which are later amended and embellished by other 'netizens. Call them digital urban legends. "Slenderman," which later inspired a real-life crime, is arguably the most famous creepypasta. "Candle Cove," written by webcartoonist Kris Straub and based around the eerie concept of a bizarre old children's TV show that was visible only to a small group of children, is another. As for the series, it takes off from Straub's tale to...
