With its fizzy trailers, set against “Material Girl” and a throwback voiceover, Celine Song’s Materialists may seem like a classic romantic comedy, but the film, Song and the actors behind the project tease, features more drama than is typical of the upbeat genre.

Indeed, as stars Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans said in the days leading up to the film’s release, Materialists is more of a “rom-com-dram.”

“There is romance, there is comedy, but it’s sort of a rom-com with drama,” Evans told The Hollywood Reporter at the Materialists premiere in New York earlier this month.

And Song did want to pay tribute to beloved rom-coms by filmmakers like Nora Ephron and James L. Brooks.

Chelsea Handler, Connie Britton, Mayim Bialik, Andy Cohen, Melissa Rivers and more have signed an open letter urging the Biden-Harris administration to bring the 101 hostages, which include five Americans, back home.

The letter was organized by Jewish advocacy groups Stop Antisemitism, End Jew Hatred, 2024 New Voices and Stand With Us, and was signed by both Jewish and non-Jewish artists and performers, ranging from film and television, to fashion, reality TV and social media.

The CW Network has revealed the spring premiere dates for its new and returning series, including new seasons of All American and Walker, along with the new drama Sight Unseen and the new unscripted shows Lovers and Liars (fka FGirl Island), Patti Stanger: The Matchmaker, Police 24/7 and Hostage Rescue.

All American returns for a sixth season on Monday, April 1. Following the season premiere, The CW will air a sneak peek of the new dating competition series Lovers and Liars, which is the spinoff of FBoy Island that has been retitled from FGirl Island. It follows three single men on a tropical island who must determine which of the 24 women are there for love or cash.

Nick Viall is teaming up with the ultimate matchmaker, Patti Stanger. The pair will work together in CW’s upcoming unscripted series, “Patti Stanger: The Matchmaker,” Variety has exclusively learned. The show will premiere on April 11 at 8 p.m. Et.

Viall, who got his start on “The Bachelorette” twice before leading his own season of “The Bachelor,” is now the host “The Viall Files” podcast and a relationship expert. On the series, he will “offer his best tips and tricks in dating as the duo tackles their most challenging clients yet.”

In a statement, Stanger said, “I get a partner with great understanding of relationships, the following of Bachelor Nation and well… he’s easy on the eyes. Quite the package.”

The series will follow Stanger as she helps singles find love while teaching them “the real tools and rules to become the most eligible versions of themselves.”

The CW is officially in the Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit business, closing deals on a pair of game shows based on the classic board games.

Both have been in the works for some time; Deadline reported on Trivial Pursuit being in the works last summer. The CW declined comment Wednesday, but an official announcement is expected shortly.

Both game shows come from Hasbro Entertainment; Lionsgate Alternative Entertainment, which acquired the eOne assets from Hasbro last year; and The CW. Scrabble is also produced by Mattel Television Studios.

There are no hosts attached to either project, but LeVar Burton previously had been attached to the Trivial Pursuit adaptation.

Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit are the latest unscripted orders from The CW’s reality chief Heather Olander, who last year told Deadline she was looking to launch a game show with “some IP along with it.”

Most recently, Cohen was a partner and served as Co-head of the talent department at A3 Artists Agency, which she joined in 2019, prior to its rebranding from Abrams Artists Agency. Before that, Cohen served as SVP of talent at Buchwald for six years. She began her agenting career at Kohner where she spent 11 years.

The CW is closing on a deal to turn Trivial Pursuit into a gameshow hosted by LeVar Burton.

It comes nearly two years after Burton signed up to host the adaptation following his guest stint hosting Jeopardy!.

Burton was one of the popular Jeopardy! guest hosts but didn’t land the job full time. Afterwards, he told The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah that he was looking for the “right” game show to host.

He will also exec produce the series, which comes from eOne through his LeVar Burton Entertainment banner. The CW insiders cautioned that the deal was not done yet.

It is the latest version of Trivial Pursuit to head to the screen; Freeform precursor The Family Channel ran a series hosted by Wink Martindale in 1993/94 that was loosely based on the game, while a syndicated version, Trivial Pursuit: America Plays ran in 2008/09.

Stanger was the star and executive producer of the hit Bravo series “The Millionaire Matchmaker,” which aired on the cabler for eight seasons between 2008 and 2015. Stanger is a third generation matchmaker and has authored multiple books such as ““Become Your Own Matchmaker,” “Raise Your Desirability Factor,” “Find Your Match” and “Seal the Deal.” She has also been a featured columnist for People and Star.

She has made appearances on shows like “Dr. Phil,” “The Real,” “The View,” “The Doctor Oz Show,” “Steve Harvey,” “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” She has even branched out into television acting with roles on “Drop Dead Diva” and “Days of Our Lives.”

Stanger is also active as a producer.

In 2008, a year after Keeping Up with the Kardashians first changed reality TV, The Millionaire Matchmaker came out. It was long before Netflix's experimental dating series hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey like The Ultimatum and Love Is Blind.

The network has ordered The Great American Bakeover (w/t), which marks the first order for former HBO Max reality chief Jen O’Connell’s Velvet Hammer banner, The Force from Jersey Shore creator SallyAnn Salsano, and Patti Stanger: Millionaire Matchmaking (w/t).

It comes after programming chief Brad Schwartz revealed that it was in production on 15 unscripted series and in development with at least ten more.

Exclusive: The Queen’s Gambit co-creator Allan Scott has set his next project, the crossover drama from Millionaire Matchmaker star Patti Stanger and Kissing Booth producer Andrew Cole-Bulgin.

The as-yet-untitled scripted project, which isn’t attached to a network yet, will follow a young dating expert from a Jewish family of matchmakers navigating her way through 1970s New York City and New Jersey, as she seeks to turn her family trade into an empire.

Along with Sam Barlow project Minsky, the series represents one of the first major shows for Scott since he wrapped on Netflix smash The Queen’s Gambit, which he co-created with Scott Frank.
