Why I’m Rooting for the “New Threats” After The Challenge Season 41 Premiere
Image
The Challenge has churned out countless seasons and spinoffs in recent years, and the franchise has reached dizzying heights and frustrating lows.

The Challenge: All Stars has blossomed into the best version of the franchise, but the original series has staged a bit of a return to form over the last few seasons.

The Challenge Season 41 Episode 1, which aired this week on MTV, introduced a wealth of new blood into the game, culminating in one of the best premieres in Challenge history.

(MTV/Screenshot)

At first glance, it feels like we’re watching War of the Worlds all over again, which isn’t a bad thing.

The Challenge Needs to Embrace New Blood

The series has become known for featuring a wealth of veteran cast members, and frankly, I’m over a lot of them at this point.

As Resident Alien Nears the End, Everyone’s Letting Go in “Tunnel Vision...

‘The Challenge 41’ Brings Back ‘Fresh Meat’ With a Brutal Twist
Image
The new season of The Challenge teased fans with a Vets versus New Threats theme. Little did they know that during the day zero launch special, it was actually the unofficial reboot of the Fresh Meat theme. Old favorites and new stars are teaming up to potentially reinvigorate one of the most influential themes in show history.

As seen in the launch, the big twist was that it wasn’t the two factions battling one another; the vets and new threats would team up. If history should repeat itself, this is how new stars will be born. Although it's been more than a decade and a half since the last official rookies and vets pairing season, the hype surrounding this new twist brings new hope that long-running stars will rise up, thanks to the fire in their eyes paired with the veterans' experience.

The Challenge will be back for its third season within a year very soon
Image
MTV has been spoiling fans of The Challenge in the past year. Not only was the super-sized 40th season celebration one of the most memorable challenges, but Battle of the Eras was then closely followed by the first season of The Challenge: All Stars to air on MTV. Both seasons were some of the most dramatic and entertaining of the franchise, but we're still just getting started.

After The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras premiered in August 2024 and concluded in January 2025, The Challenge All Stars: Rivals premiered one week after the season 40 finale and ran through April. There's been a quiet drought ever since, but that drought will soon end with the third season of the franchise to premiere within the span of one year. The Challenge season 41 is on its way!

Pop the Balloon Live Review: Netflix’s Glossy, Empty Remake
Image
Netflix’s Pop the Balloon Live arrives as a boisterous entry into the streaming world’s dating experiment catalog. The premise is brutally simple: a line of singles clutches red balloons, their last line of defense against an undesirable suitor. As a potential match is brought on stage, any single can pop their balloon to signal immediate disinterest.

The goal for the person in the hot seat is to find a connection before the stage is filled with nothing but rubber shrapnel and shattered hopes. At the center of this fast-paced spectacle is host Yvonne Orji, who swaps the sharp tailoring of her Insecure character for the frantic energy of a stand-up comedian tasked with corralling chaos.

As a live remake of a cult-favorite YouTube series, the show places viewers directly into the action, where every awkward interaction and brutal rejection happens in real-time. The result is a dating show...

CBS Made a Terrible Mistake Canceling The Challenge USA After Stellar Season 2
Image
CBS made a critical error canceling The Challenge USA spinoff, which merged the reality TV worlds of CBS and MTV.

Season 2 further expanded upon this, as some of The Challenge’s most memorable and entertaining stars entered the fray, immediately battling to survive amongst CBS personalities.

Despite having the likes of Johnny Bananas, Wes Bergmann, and Amanda Garcia mixed in with stars from Amazing Race, Big Brother, and Survivor, USA ended after that second season.

The Challenge USA needed to continue, as we believe there was much more life left in this spinoff concept that fans would’ve loved to see.

Crowning a champ: Who won season 1 of Battle Camp on Netflix?
Image
The new hit Netflix reality series Battle Camp has come to an end. (And yes...there are spoiler alerts ahead!)

The streaming giant released all ten episodes at once, an infrequent occurrence that left fans (and this reality writer) scrambling to catch up on all the drama and backstories behind the lineup of reality stars from half a dozen Netflix shows, including Too Hot to Handle, The Mole, Love is Blind, Squid Game: The Challenge, The Circle, and Perfect Match.

The premise for Battle Camp was pretty simple. Take one part MTV's The Challenge, two parts Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, add a dash of Fear Factor, and a $250,000 prize, and you have yourself a new show. The twist? While campers do nominate their competitors for elimination, the final choice is up to the spin of the wheel of doom by host Taylor Lewan.

Theo Campbell returned for The Challenge: Battle of the Eras as one of the Era 4 team members competing to win the ultimate prize.

He eliminated his rival castmate, Paulie Calafiore, early in the season, but eventually lost an elimination to Johnny Bananas, ending Theo’s chance to win the show.

While Theo didn’t reach the Season 40 final, he seemingly landed something more valuable: the love and affection of his castmate, Olivia Kaiser.

The duo caught one another’s attention while filming the season, and like Devin Walker and Michele Fitzgerald, they were among the showmances that went beyond the season.

Since appearing on the show, Theo and Olivia have continued to explore their relationship, with Theo deciding to visit Olivia in the United States.

The Challenge couple has potentially sparked engagement rumors as fans speculate on a recent video clip.

There’s no love lost between The Challenge stars Johnny Bananas and Devin Walker. That’s especially true after their drama on Battle of the Eras.

The iconic Season 40 on MTV featured them competing on different Era teams, and each wanted to one-up the other.

Following Bananas’ suggestion to Devin’s showmance, Michele Fitzgerald, that she be careful with him, things went off the rails between Devin and Bananas.

Unfortunately for Devin, Bananas had the last laugh. Devin’s castmates with power sent him into an elimination match against promising newcomer Kyland Young, which Devin lost.

Despite that, Devin’s now-girlfriend, Michele, remained in the game with his close friend, Tori Deal, and endured Bananas’s wrath.

On a recent episode of the Death, Taxes and Bananas podcast, The Challenge’s winningest player blasted Devin as a cast member, explaining his issues with him.

Johnny 'Bananas' Devenanzio
Johnny Bananas revealed that he and castmate Turabi “Turbo” Camkiran experienced a “breakthrough” several years after their last season of The Challenge.

While former Survivor Turkey winner Turbo gained additional fame by winning MTV’s War of the Worlds in his rookie season, his next season included some heated moments.

That included an explosive altercation with Jordan Wiseley and threats toward production staff or security.

With that, Turbo was separated from the cast and kicked off his second season. It wasn’t until Ride or Dies that he returned to The Challenge along with a partner not many fans knew of.

He quickly put himself and his partner on everyone’s radars due to his combative and abrasive attitude.

That included his former friend, Nany Gonzalez, who just happened to be partnered with Bananas. Despite Bananas’ attempts to joke around, Turbo wasn’t having it and took offense to his remarks.

Road Rules (1995)
After years away from the competition show, The Challenge: All Stars Rivals brought back former Real World roommates Frank Sweeney Fox and Sam McGinn.

While many fans likely didn’t consider them favorites to win the season, Frank’s social gameplay in the house assisted him and Sam in reaching the final and having a shot to win.

However, the final brought difficult circumstances as Sam suffered an injury, making it difficult for her to give the effort Frank might have hoped for.

Ultimately, they finished in third place, taking less prize money than the show’s winners.

The Challenge star Johnny Bananas blasts claims he made racist remarks to his castmate
Image
Johnny Bananas fired back at the backlash he received online after his remarks to a castmate went viral.

The Challenge star last appeared in MTV’s Battle of the Eras season, reaching the final with seven other castmates from a 40-person season.

However, Bananas didn’t add another championship, finishing in third place and receiving a smaller portion of the prize pool.

Following that, he also got snubbed as the competition show’s greatest competitor of all time, as castmates unanimously voted Season 40 winner Jordan Wiseley over Bananas.

In addition to appearing on The Challenge, he’s been going on other reality TV shows, including Peacock’s The Traitors and E!’s House of Villains.

His latest was the Netflix dating show, Pop the Balloon, where his comments to a cast member drew the ire of some critics.

‘Pop the Balloon’ Already Brought Out the Worst in People. Then It Got a TV Deal

One of the internet’s favorite — and most controversial — shows is getting a squeaky new primetime spin. YouTube show Pop The Balloon will become a live dating show on Netflix, with the streamer releasing its own weekly spin on series best known for giving judging a person at face value its very own spotlight.

“We’re thrilled to see Pop the Balloon take on a new life on Netflix,” the creators of the show, husband-and-wife team Bolia Matundu and Arlette Amuli, told Deadline in March when the series was announced.

The Challenge’s Frank Sweeney Fox calls out Johnny Bananas for naming him ‘worst partner’ ever
Johnny 'Bananas' Devenanzio
With Frank Sweeney Fox recently taking over The Challenge: All Stars Rivals, his former castmate Johnny Bananas discussed their previous partnership.

During a new podcast episode, Bananas mentioned how he and Frank previously teamed up on The Challenge when they got paired up for the MTV Rivals II season.

According to Bananas, their rivalry arrived from a Twitter feud, now X, which was historic as the first-ever Twitter beef that created a partnership for the show.

The pair finished as runner-ups in the final to winners Chris “Ct” Tamburello and Wes Bergmann.

During the Death, Taxes and Bananas podcast, Frank and Johnny fondly remembered their time partnering on the show.

However, Frank also recalled Bananas calling him his “worst partner” in the game.

The Challenge’s Devin Walker slams Johnny Bananas as ‘bronze medalist’ among Goat cast members
Image
Devin Walker didn’t hold back with his comments about his The Challenge castmate Johnny Bananas.

Both appeared in the cast of MTV’s The Challenge: Battle of the Eras, which included 40 iconic stars from the competition series.

However, egos clashed during the gameplay, including Bananas and Devin re-entering a feud during the season.

Bananas’ remarks to Michele Fitzgerald about being careful with her then-showmance with Devin didn’t sit well with the Ride or Dies winner.

However, Devin was eliminated before the Season 40 final, leaving Michele and her allies to strategize against Bananas Angels.

It spilled over to the reunion, where Devin and Bananas seemed to get along. However, Devin’s recent remarks on the Zach Nichols Podcast may reignite things.

The Challenge’s Devin Walker addresses speculation that Season 40 was rigged
Derrick Kosinski in The Challenge (1998)
Following The Challenge: Battle of the Eras, some fans may have thought that production rigged aspects of the show to help specific castmates.

One thing fans and castmates called out included an elimination event involving Horacio Gutierrez and Derrick Kosinski.

In addition, Jordan Wiseley and fans pointed out a significant daily challenge mistake involving Jenny West, Cara Maria Sorbello, and Tori Deal.

Devin Walker was there for some of the season, but castmate Kyland Young eliminated him in Episode 9.

Devin appeared in All Stars Rivals from there, teaming with Leroy Garrett based on previous game moves.

That season didn’t go well either, as the duo lost to the formidable pair of Adam Larson and Steve Meinke. Soon after MTV aired his elimination, Devin spoke about those “rigged” claims.

The Challenge’s Turbo Camkiran called out by former castmate for All Stars Rival behavior
Image
Many of The Challenge fans have a love-and-hate view of former winner Turabi “Turbo” Camkiran due to his unique personality and funny antics.

After several seasons off, he returned for MTV’s Ride or Dies and ended up butting heads with multiple castmates, including his former friend Nany Gonzalez.

That led to a quick exit via elimination, but Turbo is back again, teamed up with Nany on The Challenge: All Stars Rivals.

While he mainly seemed mellow throughout the first half of the season, he unleashed on his castmates in a recent episode.

Turbo chose to take over a living room area in the All Stars house and then complained about his castmates leaving a mess and being noisy when he was trying to sleep.

That resulted in him arguing with Adam Larson. As Nany tried to calm things down, Melissa Reeves and Turbo got into a shouting match.

The Challenge Season 41 is filming in Chile, and spoilers continue to update fans interested in who’s there and who’s gone home.

The Challenge Season 41 filming is underway for MTV episodes, with daily challenges and eliminations.

Some were multi-time champions looking to add to their resumes. That was the case for the season winners Jordan Wiseley, Jenny West, and Rachel Robinson, who added another win to their career achievements.

The Challenge’s Mark Long teases return of iconic theme and former castmates to All Stars

The Challenge: All Stars is airing Season 5, featuring the classic Rivals theme from previous seasons.

During its many seasons, the flagship featured three Rivals seasons, including the memorable Rivals III, where Johnny Bananas stunned his teammate Sarah Rice and claimed all the prize money for himself.

All Stars Rivals also includes pairs of castmates with a feud, whether it’s due to a former argument, falling out, throwing shade, or backstabbing move from the game.

Among the teams are Nany Gonzalez with Turabi “Turbo” Camkiran, Faysal “Fessy” Shafaat with Amber Borzotra, Veronica Portillo with Katie Cooley, and Ashley Mitchell with Aneesa Ferreira.

Former showmance couple Dario Medrano and Ashley Kelsey seem to get along despite their differences.

The Challenge star Johnny Bananas blasted by former castmates as ‘getting a little cringe’
Johnny 'Bananas' Devenanzio
If Johnny Bananas were to appear on The Challenge: All Stars Rivals, he would likely have a group of suitable teammates.

One of the most notable would be former show winner Sarah Rice, who stopped doing The Challenge after her infamous reality TV moment with Bananas as her partner.

Fittingly, she and Bananas were teammates on one of the original MTV Rivals seasons, with Bananas opting to leave her penniless and keep all the prize money after they won the final.

Sarah previously won Battle of the Exes II with Jordan Wiseley as her teammate. Bananas felt betrayed by Sarah, whom he’d considered a friend and ally that season.

Since leaving the competition show, she’s succeeded in her professional career and co-hosts a podcast with Susie Meister, another Challenge alum.

The duo recently spoke with their former castmate, Ryan Kehoe, and they all shared thoughts about Bananas.

The Challenge’s Frank Sweeney Fox receives praise from former castmate for ‘carrying’ All Stars 5

Many fans are taking notice of Frank Sweeney Fox’s return to The Challenge. He’s considered one of the early standouts on All Stars Rivals.

The Challenge winner and two-time finalist hadn’t appeared in a season since 2014’s Free Agents.

For the All Stars 5 season, he learned that he and former Real World: San Diego castmate Sam McGinn would be teammates, forcing them to work together.

While Frank realized Sam had limitations in specific physical tasks due to a lack of conditioning or training, he still found ways to control the game.

That included a big move to get castmates KellyAnne Judd and Sylvia Elsrode sent into elimination and ultimately sent home.

Frank’s other former castmate, Zach Nichols, recently praised him during an episode of The Zach Nichols Podcast.

The Challenge’s Johnny Bananas denies he sent Gorilla emoji to Big Brother winner

Johnny Bananas denied sending a Gorilla emoji tweet to former Big Brother winner Taylor Hale, which caused severe backlash on social media.

Last week, several X messages went on The Challenge winner’s X account, which may have been attempting to drive engagement ahead of Bananas’ new cryptocurrency venture.

Some messages mentioned or criticized reality TV shows, including CBS’s Survivor and Big Brother.

The Challenge’s Johnny Bananas slammed by fans over his new venture: ‘Don’t do this’
Image
With The Challenge: Battle of the Eras season concluded on MTV, Johnny Bananas appears to have found a new side hustle, but not all fans are buying it.

The seven-time MTV champion just finished Season 40, finishing third place amongst the men, as he watched castmate Jordan Wiseley capture another title.

Just recently, Bananas claimed that the unique twist, known as the Karma Vote, was added to the season to prevent him from achieving his eighth win.

He called it the “Envy Vote” and accused other castmates of being jealous and giving him lower scores to prevent him from finishing in first place.

In the past several years, he has expanded his reality TV resume by appearing on other shows, including Peacock’s The Traitors and E!’s House of Villains.

However, within the past few days, he teased that he had something big coming to social media, and he is...

Johnny Bananas claims The Challenge used ‘Envy vote’ twist against him on Season 40
Rachel Robinson
The Challenge: Battle of the Eras is in the books with co-champions Jenny West and Rachel Robinson for the women, alongside Jordan Wiseley for the men.

However, many fans believe a significant twist ruined things for Season 40 and how the final standings went.

Count Johnny Bananas among them, as his third-place finish doesn’t seem to sit well with him due to the Karma Vote.

That twist allowed eliminated castmates to assign scores on a scale of one to five to all of the remaining competitors. A five was the best score possible, while a one was the worst.

Production and Tj Lavin indicated that the eliminated cast members gave points based on how they felt that particular castmate treated them and others.

However, some of these scores may have been based on ill will because that castmate sent them into elimination during the season. Some castmates may have assigned...
