With Emmy nominations voting officially underway, the Television Academy’s ballots are offering insight into which performances could break through when nominations are unveiled on July 15. While submission totals in several key categories are down — reflecting the industry’s ongoing post-strike recovery — the races remain competitive and dynamic, with marquee names and fresh talent jockeying for recognition.
The lead actor and actress categories in drama are notably tighter this year. Only 77 actors and 75 actresses were submitted — down slightly from 2024 (81 and 67) and a sharp decline from 2022’s highs (134 and 114). As a result, each category will have only five nominees unless ties boost the field to six.
The drama actor race includes a trio of Latino contenders making waves: Diego Luna for “Andor,” Pedro Pascal for “The Last of Us,” and Ramón Rodríguez for “Will Trent.” They’ll face off against a rising generation, and established career performers such as Matthew Goode (“Dept.

NBC announced a slew of cancellations last week, and among them was the working-class family sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez. The series aired its Season 3 finale in February and had since been on the bubble as other shows on the network received new season orders. When its fate was finally decided, it was a decision that left the cast reeling. Now,George Lopez and Mayan Lopez, the father-daughter duo who play fictionalized versions of themselves on the show, have shared their first reactions to the news that their show won't be returning for Season 4.
Mayan was the first to address the unfortunate situation, taking to her TikTok to post a comedic reaction with a video of herself mouthing "that was rude, that was pretty f***ing rude" - the lyrics to the trending sound on the platform, which originates from Broadway’s Death Becomes Her musical. Across the video, read the words,...

Lopez vs. Lopez wasn’t exactly Friends or Seinfeld when it came to dominating the ratings. Heck, it wasn’t even 2 Broke Girls. But that didn’t make the Lopez family any happier when NBC axed the sitcom after three seasons.
After the official announcement came through, George Lopez reposted a video of his daughter and co-star Mayan borrowing a viral audio clip to express her feelings about the decision. “That was rude,” she lip-syncs. “That was fucking rude.”
To be fair, Mayan appeared to have her tongue firmly in cheek in the video. But the Lopezes are publicly expressing their disappointment. In an Instagram Story over the weekend, Mayan was still sharing petitions to save the show, offering hope that the sitcom might still be picked up by another outlet.
“It was three years,” Mayan Lopez added in another Instagram Story. “I mean, the guest stars that we had,...

Father-daughter creative duo George Lopez and Mayan Lopez, who co-created and starred in NBC’s since-canceled Lopez Vs. Lopez, reacted to the semi-autobiographical sitcom’s ending, mourning the loss and promising that it marks the “first show” of many more to come.
Mayan Lopez initially commented on the news via a TikTok, in which she appeared in front of Deadline’s article about the cancellation, mouthing to a ditty that sing-songed: “That was rude, that was pretty, f—ing rude.”
She added in the caption, “So grateful to have created a show from a freaking tik tok that was network for three years… thank you NBC and my cast and crew but right now it’s time for tequila and tears… one dream done and now it’s the next one.”
George Lopez reposted the video to Instagram, adding in the caption, “We will definitely put something out officially… for now. I would really love to thank all of you who have showed us so much love and support for the past three seasons. This wasn’t just a show, it was and is our lives. We created a family. We created jobs for Raza, there is so much more that goes on behind the scenes and I am forever grateful and thankful for every single member of our #LopezVSLopez familia♥️,” and signing off as “Tio George.”
Following the news, Mayan Lopez took to social media to share behind-the-scenes clips from set and rehearsal, as well as respond to fans reacting to the show’s termination. “If part of the legacy of the show was helping you all be seen and helping you understand your families then I did my job,” she wrote on her Instagram Story in response to a viewer who saw herself in the onscreen father-daughter relationship.
Mayan Lopez added in an Instagram Story video, “It was three years, I mean the guest stars that we had, the incredible moments for the community and our Latinidad, and it was a beautiful experience and we really were like family, and we always will be.”
The actress additionally said she is “getting to work and also mourning” and “treating [the cancellation] like a death … I’m grieving.” She also noted that the show aims to “hopefully be picked up somewhere,” though she will provide watchers a sense of “closure” with the unfinished storyline regardless.
In prompting her Instagram followers to ask her questions, she shared that co-star Matt Shively, who plays her onscreen love interest, wrote, “Can we just shoot season 4 on an iPhone in your apartment.”
Sharing what’s next for her, Mayan Lopez pointed to her upcoming guest judge appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 10, her forthcoming turn in The Evilry, a podcast, stand-up shows and floated the idea of selling merchandise and penning books, including a memoir.
“This show was my baby and it took so much out of me personally and professionally being, starring and producing and writing on it. I’ve done a lot, and I think the next thing I do won’t be a version of myself, so it won’t take so much out of me. But I’m going to do it all. I’m not worried, it’s just going to be when, you know. The industry’s in a weird place right now, but I’m going to do what I can,” she said on her Story.
She continued, “This is just my first show, this is not my last show. I will write movies, I will write TV shows … My dad and I are already talking about working with each other again.”
Concluding, she added that she will “continue to be a champion for Latino representation, especially with everything going on right now in our country. We are not going to be erased and I hold the pen to make sure we never do.”
For three seasons, Lopez vs. Lopez followed a working class family through its trials and triumphs, amid dysfunction and reconnection. Co-created alongside Debby Wolfe, it centers on an old-school Latino (George Lopez) who moves in with his Gen Z daughter (Mayan Lopez) as they rebuild their relationship one argument at a time. The series was a return-to-form of sorts for George Lopez, after his hit namesake series ended in 2007, though with a greater degree of vulnerability, tackling real-life issues through the lens of Latinidad, including mental health, machismo and interracial relationships.

Viewers have seen the last of the fictional version of the Lopez family. NBC has cancelled Lopez vs Lopez so that it won't return for a fourth season. The show's third season of 13 episodes finished airing in February.
A family comedy series, the Lopez vs Lopez TV show stars George Lopez, Mayan Lopez, Selenis Leyva, Brice Gonzalez, Al Madrigal, and Matt Shively. The story revolves around a generational conflict between a partially estranged father and daughter -- working-class, old-school George (George Lopez) and his Gen Z daughter, Maya (Mayan Lopez). George was largely an absent father, and he also cheated on Maya's mother (Leyva) and gambled a lot. Now, Maya has been through years of therapy, and George has gone through a tough time. Now that he's moved in with Maya and her family, the two have a...

Popular comedian George Lopez has been starring alongside his daughter, Mayan Lopez, in the NBC multi-camera sitcom, Lopez Vs. Lopez, for the past three seasons. Unfortunately for fans of the series, its most recent season finale was also a series one, as NBC has officially canceled the series ahead of NBCUniversal's Upfronts presentation on May 12, 2025, in New York City. It was the last of the network's comedies to receive word of its future prospects, with Night Court also getting the axe earlier in the day.

NBC is cleaning house ahead of its 2025 Upfront presentation on Monday, and the casualties are already piling up.
The network has canceled multiple series in one fell swoop, with Night Court, Lopez vs Lopez, The Irrational, Found, and Suits: LA all officially off the schedule. And with the day still young, there’s reason to believe more are coming.
Let’s break down what’s been cut — and what that says about where NBC is headed next season.
Night Court (Canceled After Three Seasons) (Nicole Weingart/NBC)
The revival of the beloved 1980s sitcom came in hot back in 2023, debuting to strong numbers and plenty of nostalgic goodwill.
Melissa Rauch stepped into the lead role as Judge Abby Stone, with John Larroquette reprising his Emmy-winning role as Dan Fielding. But after three seasons, NBC has called it a day.

After sentencing several TV series to cancellation, NBC is bringing the gavel down on them. The Night Court reboot, starring Melissa Rauch, is the first series to get cancelled. The courtroom comedy lasted three seasons, with Lacretta and John Larroquette co-starring in the shenanigans. After a strong start, the show’s year-to-year numbers steadily declined. Nostalgia is a powerful tool in Hollywood, but with so much competition, it shows that springboards from fond memories eventually fade.
According to Deadline, there was an effort to bring the show back for a fourth and final season with a shorter episode count, but it didn’t happen. It’s still possible that Warner Bros. Television could shop the show somewhere else.

George Lopez’s latest sitcom, Lopez vs. Lopez, will not be getting a fourth season. The fan-favorite show was canceled at NBC, per Deadline, and is the latest sitcom to get the axe this year. ABC’s The Connersalso ended its run this spring.
The news of Lopez vs. Lopez’s cancelation came at NBC’s network upfronts, which also included an announcement that Night Court is also not being renewed. Both shows had been on the “bubble” at the network. The sitcom, starring George Lopez, Mayan Lopez, Matt Shively, Bruce Gonzalez, Selenis Leyva, and Al Madrigal had the distinction of being one of the first network comedies that featured a Latino family as a dysfunctional one, a-la Roseanne.
The similarities between Roseanne, The Conners, and Lopez vs. Lopez were likely not coincidental, as Bruce Helford, who helmed the two classic sitcoms, also served as an executive producer on Lopez vs.

NBC previously picked up its two freshman comedy series, St. Denis Medical and Happy's Place, for second seasons, but we now know that the Lopez family won't be joining them. The network has announced that George Lopez and Mayan Lopez's family sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez has been cancelled after three seasons. The news comes a full two months after the Season 3 finale, which welcomed the elder Lopez's nemesis Mario Lopez in a guest-starring role as George's fitness-obsessed attorney cousin Vinny. With Night Court also being cancelled, this leaves Happy's Place as the only multi-camera sitcom left standing at the network.

NBC has canceled Lopez vs. Lopez and Night Court after three seasons apiece. The cancellations come on the final business day before NBC’s upfront — when networks pitch advertisers on their coming slates — on Monday.
Night Court aired its third season finale, which will now serve as a series ender, on Tuesday — although sources say Warner Bros. TV, which produces the show with Universal TV, may try to find a new home for the series.
This Night Court stars Melissa Rauch (who also executive produces) as Abby Stone, a judge in Manhattan’s often chaotic night court and the daughter of Harry Stone, the lead character in the original 1984-92 series (who was played by the late Harry Anderson). John Larroquette reprised his role from the original series as attorney Dan Fielding; the season three cast also includes Lacretta, Nyambi Nyambi and Wendie Malick. George Lopez is saying goodbye to stand-up comedy with one final special, premiering Feb. 18 on Amazon Prime Video.
Shot live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, “Muy Católico” sees Lopez musing on getting older, Latino family dynamics, generational clashes, superstitions and cultural quirks.
