Since his introduction, much of Rocket Raccoon's life was left to speculation as the Guardians of the Galaxy movies often focused more on Peter Quill and Gamora's backstories. That said, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finally rectified that and gave audiences a clear but ultimately tragic look at Rocket's life being tortured by The High-Evolutionary. This also allowed new characters from his past to come into play, like Lylla the Otter, his best friend and first love from the comics.

In the comics, when Rocket was a protector of Halfworld alongside Wal Rus and Lylla the Otter, the group was inseparable.
