Judge Accuses Trump Of ‘Intimidating’ A Juror After Former President Mutters At Him In Court
Image
During jury selection for Donald Trump’s New York hush money trial, Judge Juan Merchan accused the former president of “intimidating” a juror after he made a gesture and muttered at him.

Merchan asked Trump’s attorney, Todd Blanche, to “speak to him” about his behavior.

“Your client was audibly uttering something. He was gesturing and muttering in the direction [of the juror],” the judge said to Blanche.

“I will not tolerate that,” Judge Merchan added, raising his voice. “I will not have any jurors intimidated in this courtroom. Take a minute and speak to your client about it!”

On day two of jury selection, the former president and his lawyers had a potential juror dismissed over a Facebook post he wrote about Trump in 2017.

“Get him out and lock him up,” the man wrote.

When the potential juror had been called into court to explain his actions, he admitted that he had...

Trump Faces Prison Time If Convicted Of Falsifying Business Records In Hush Money Case, Former Federal Prosecutor Says
Image
Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann stated that former President Donald Trump could face prison time if he ends up being convicted of falsifying business records in his New York hush money trial.

Trump has been charged with 34 felony counts in connection to with a scheme to falsify business records to cover up hush money payments made to conceal an alleged affair with adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the closing weeks of the 2016 presidential campaign. This case is going to trial on April 15.

“He could be looking at the jail,” Weissmann told CNN host Wolf Blitzer. “This is one where [Judge Juan Merchan]—I think—is going to be looking at the rule of law to see how other people were treated, other people with a similar criminal background. I think this is an area where Donald Trump’s pretrial behavior is going to be relevant.”

The ex-federal prosecutor pointed out that Trump...

Trump Campaign Doubles Down: It’s Totally Fine That He Called His Enemies ‘Vermin’
Image
Donald Trump’s campaign is defending the former president’s use of the word “vermin” to describe his opponents and detractors after receiving backlash for echoing a term used by brutal authoritarian dictators like Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

“We pledge to you that we will root out the communists, Marxists, fascists, and the radical-left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country that lie and steal and cheat on elections,” Trump said in a Veterans Day speech on Saturday after using the term in a social-media post earlier that same day.

Inaccurate Zillow Listing Suggested Donald Trump Sold Mar-a-Lago To Eldest Son, Don Jr., Before Arrest
Image
Zillow has stated that a home listing showing that Donald Trump sold his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida was inaccurate. The listing suggested the residence was purchased for $422 million on August 4, just weeks before the former president turned himself in at Fulton County jail in Atlanta for 13 felony charges related to his attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

The Zillow listing has since been changed from “sold” to “off market.” The online real estate company said in a statement: “After an investigation, it appears that the information provided was incorrect. We’ve corrected the information on this property.”

The Trump Organization also said that the original listing was wrong. “Mar-a-Lago has absolutely not been sold nor will it ever be. This rumor is asinine,” Eric Trump commented.

While Zillow’s website did not say who had allegedly bought the resort, The Express reported that Trump may not have sold...

Donald Trump
Following an intense day of media coverage surrounding Donald Trump’s arraignment in New York City Tuesday, “Last Word” host Lawrence O’Donnell was left gobsmacked while discussing the former president’s social media harassment of Manhattan Da Alvin Bragg and his wife, Jamila Ponton Bragg.

“Not in the entire history of the island of Manhattan has that ever happened,” O’Donnell said of the Truth Social posts calling out Ponton Bragg as, among other things, a “Trump Hating Wife.”

“No mafia boss – no one – has ever done that.”

The post in question came on Saturday, April 1, three days ahead of the proceedings in NYC.

NY Grand Jury Votes to Indict Trump, Who’s Expected to Surrender to Authorities
Image
A New York grand jury has voted to indict Donald Trump, the former “Apprentice” star who also served as President of the United States from 2017-2021.

The charges stem from Trump paying adult film actress and director Stormy Daniels a six-figure sum as hush money over a one-night stand he had with her in 2006, when his wife Melania was pregnant with their only child, Barron.

Specific charges were not known at press time. Speaking on MSNBC the afternoon of March 30, former Mueller investigation attorney Andrew Weissmann said he assumed at least one felony charge would be forthcoming.

Trump’s one-time lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen, arranged for Daniels in 2016 to receive a $130,000 check so as to withhold the news of their tryst from the public, just as the reality TV star was in the clubhouse turn on his successful presidential bid. But when Daniels went public with the hush-money payment...

Michelle Yeoh Tells National Board of Review Gala About Her Road to Hollywood — and Her ‘Western Name’
Image
The National Board of Review awards gala made its in-person return at Cipriani in midtown Manhattan, with “Top Gun: Maverick” taking the night’s top honors — even despite Tom Cruise and co-star Miles Teller as no-shows at the ceremony. The event, however, was attended by the starry likes of Best Actor winner Colin Farrell, Best Actress winner Michelle Yeoh, Best Supporting Actress winner Janelle Monáe, and Best Director Steven Spielberg.

The awards season is still on the cusp of staleness, and so attendees and winners were in buoyant spirits as a skillfully and sometimes strangely curated list of presenters included Awkwafina, Daniel Craig, Paul Dano, Ariana Debose, Tamron Hall, Oscar Isaac, Barry Jenkins, Jeremy O. Harris, Ron Howard, Sienna Miller, Brooke Shields, Fisher Stevens, Amber Tamblyn, and Andrew Weissmann.

However, the canniest pairing of presenter and winner was Awkwafina with one of her idols, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” Best Actress winner Yeoh.

‘Agents of Chaos’: HBO Drops Trailer for Alex Gibney Doc on Russian Interference in U.S. Election
Image
HBO has the fix for television viewers with an insatiable appetite for insight on Russia’s interference with the United States’ 2016 presidential election.

That fix is titled “Agents of Chaos,” an upcoming two-part documentary from Alex Gibney that will premiere on September 23. HBO unveiled the trailer for the documentary on Monday and though the project covers well-trod territory, “Agents of Chaos” promises to shine a new light on the political controversy.

Per HBO, “Agents of Chaos” is a product of years of reporting on Russian interference in the 2016 election. With never-before-seen footage inside the Russian troll farms and videos unearthed from the Russian deep web, the film digs deep into the sophisticated plans to undermine democracy, raising the alarm for the American public, but also proving that these “agents of chaos” weren’t Russians alone; they were also key players in the United States who, through venality, corruption or circumstance,...

“Let’s put the word ‘collusion’ aside for a moment… and let’s instead use the word ‘seduction.’” – Timothy Snyder, Professor of History, Yale University; Author, “The Road to Unfreedom.” This sentiment of seduction is key to “Agents of Chaos” a new two-part documentary from Academy Award winner Alex Gibney. Alex Gibney Examines Russian Election Interference in HBO Documentary ‘Agents of Chaos’ (Exclusive)
Image
Alex Gibney, the Emmy and Oscar winning documentary filmmaker who has previously investigated everything from Scientology to Theranos, will pull back the curtain on Russian collusion in the 2016 U.S. elections.

Dubbed “Agents of Chaos,” the two-part film will debut on HBO on Sept. 23 in advance of the 2020 presidential contest. The second installment will air on Sept. 24. Gibney previously collaborated with HBO on the likes of “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief” and “The Inventor: Out For Blood in Silicon Valley.”

“The was a Herculean effort that was reminiscent of the cleaning of the Augean stables in terms of difficulty,” Gibney told Variety. “While a lot has been written about certain aspects of this story, much of it was done in such a superficial way that it was hard for people to penetrate. We felt there was value in presenting this as one all-encompassing narrative.”

The resulting film...

Michael Wolff’s ‘Siege’ Is Like His Last Book — But Worse
Michael Wolff might be the most unreliable historian America has ever encountered, but at least he admits it. This is from the author’s note to Siege, the less-explosive sequel to his smash-hit “inside” account of the Trump presidency, Fire and Fury:

Dealing with sources in the Trump White House has continued to offer its own set of unique issues. A basic requirement of working there is, surely, the willingness to… delegitimize the truth… this has caused some of the same people who’ve undermined the public trust to become private truth-tellers…...

Paul Manafort Will Now Serve Nearly 8 Years in Prison
Paul Manafort
Washington — Paul Manafort told the federal courtroom in Washington, D.C., that he had “already begun to change.” He spoke of the “power of prayer.” Judge Amy Berman Jackson didn’t buy it.

On Wednesday morning, in the conclusion of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s two-pronged prosecution of the former Trump campaign chairman and Republican uber-consultant, Judge Jackson sentenced the 69-year-old Manafort to more than six years in prison for two counts of conspiracy to violate foreign lobbying law, commit money laundering and obstruct justice. Manafort will serve some of...

Mueller Recommends Up to 24 Years for Paul Manafort
Paul Manafort
Washington — On Friday evening, lawyers working for Special Counsel Robert Mueller recommended that Paul Manafort, the president’s disgraced former campaign chairman, serve as many as 24 years in jail on charges brought in federal court in Virginia. This sentencing memo comes a day after a federal judge found that Manafort had intentionally lied to Mueller and his team in the course of their investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, violating his plea agreement.

Manafort’s legal woes began almost one year ago, when he was indicted by Mueller alongside Rick Gates,...

Why Does Paul Manafort Keep Lying About Russia?
Paul Manafort
Washington — Paul Manafort, the ostrich-jacket-wearing lobbyist and former campaign chairman for President Trump, took another hit in federal court on Wednesday.

Judge Amy Berman Jackson found that Manafort lied to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigative team on multiple topics, including his interactions with a former associate in Ukraine with reported ties to Russian intelligence. By doing so, the judge ruled, Manafort violated the terms of a plea agreement he signed last September in which he said he would cooperate extensively with Mueller. Manafort could now face a longer prison sentence.
