'Harry Potter' TV Show Set Photos Reveal First Look at the Dursleys
Image
Production is currently underway on HBO's Harry Potterreboot, and the updates are coming in thick and fast, much like the letters that famously poured out of the chimney at Number Four, Privet Drive — the address at which Harry begrudgingly resided following the death of his parents. He was forced to live in the cupboard under the stairs, while his despicable Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia, and cousin Dudley stomped around him. Unfortunately for Harry, he will have to face them again in the upcoming TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books.

New photos from the set of the highly anticipated Harry Potter series have offered a glimpse at how the dastardly Dursleys will appear in the small-screen version of the story, following an extremely divisive first look at another fan-favorite character. An earlier announcement confirmed that Daniel Rigby and Bev Powley had been cast as Vernon and Petunia Dursley,...

Harry Potter Set Photos Feature Dominic McLaughlin As The Boy Wizard; First Look At The Dursleys
Image
Production is now underway on HBO's small-screen adaptation of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter. We recently got a first official look at Dominic McLaughlin as the titular Boy Wizard, and these latest set photos taken at London Zoo (via SFFGazette.com) give us another glimpse of the young actor alongside members of the thoroughly unpleasant Dursley family.

In the novels, Harry is begrudgingly taken in by Petunia and Vernon Dursley following the death of his parents. The lad is not treated very well (to say the least), but does ultimately put his differences with their son, Dudley, aside.

In related news, Variety reports that Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden is building a temporary school so that the show’s young cast can keep up with their studies during filming.

"Three Rivers District Council is permitting the studio to “use a series of portable buildings as a school facility for the next decade.

New Harry Potter Set Images Reveal ‘90s Costumes and an Iconic Location
Image
The Boy Who Lived is back — and he’s bringing his iconic round glasses, lightning bolt scar, and Dudley Dursley’s supremely period-appropriate and tacky tracksuit with him. Production on HBO’s new Harry Potter series is officially underway, and fans just got their first look at what’s brewing behind the scenes. The cast was recently spotted by The Sun (click to view photos) filming pivotal early scenes at London Zoo — the same location used in the original 2001 film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone — giving longtime fans a blast of nostalgia and offering a new generation a fresh introduction to the wizarding world. The

Dominic McLaughlin, 11, was photographed in costume as the new Harry Potter, wearing oversized glasses, a blue hoodie, and that famous scar. The zoo sequence being filmed is a major moment in the story — where Harry accidentally speaks Parseltongue to a snake and unknowingly sets...

Harry Potter TV Show Set Photos Reveal Harry & Dursleys In Pivotal Book Scene
Image
The first-ever set photos from the upcoming Harry Pottershow, featuring an important scene between Harry and the Dursleys, have been revealed. The HBO show is set to premiere in 2027, and this year has seen casting announcements coming in in droves. Dominic McLaughlin will play the Boy Wizard, while Daniel Rigby and Bel Powley have been cast as Vernon and Petunia Dursley. Amson Kitson will play Dudley.

The scene being filmed, as captured by The Daily Mail, is a pivotal moment in the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone book, in which the Dursleys and Harry visit the zoo for Dudley's birthday. Thisis the first time Harry realizes he might have magical powers, as he has a conversation with a boa constrictor and helps it escape captivity.

The film shoot took place at the London Zoo, and featured McLaughlin in a blue hoodie complete with Harry's signature round glasses and mussed-up hair.

Harry Potter HBO TV Series Set Photos Reveal The Dursley Family At The Zoo
Image
The "Harry Potter" TV series might be a tipping point for our nostalgia-fixated monoculture, but it looks set to be just as big a cultural phenomenon as the movies and books, despite the ongoing controversy surrounding the HBO show. So far, we've had multiple set photos and official shots from the ongoing production, all of which have commanded massive attention. Our first look at the series' version of Privet Drive gave us a glimpse of one of the key locations, while leaked set photos later revealed the new version of Platform 9¾. Now, more set photos have emerged which show the Dursley family visiting the London Zoo (via Daily Mail).

In both the book and 2001 film "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," the titular wizard visits a local zoo along with his muggle aunt and uncle and their son, Dudley. There, he experiences his own magical abilities after he unknowingly uses...

Harry Potter TV Show Report Reveals Shorter Episode Count, Season 2 Filming Window
Image
Harry Potter may have just started production on its first season, but HBO is reportedly already looking ahead. A new report has offered insight into the network's plans for the show's second season, which would adapt The Chamber of Secrets.

According to Redanian Intelligence, HBO plans on filming the first two seasons of Harry Potter back-to-back, with Season 2 slated to begin production in July 2026, two months after Season 1's expected wrap date. Season 2 would then film on a similar production timeframe, wrapping in May 2027. The report also revealed that the episode counts for the first two seasons will be shorter than expected. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod previously indicated back in December 2024 that the first season would comprise eight episodes, when they mentioned having "eight hours to tell the first book." While that may still be the case, those eight hours will be divided into just six episodes,...

Harry Potter Accidentally Exposed the Dursleys as Two Extremes With Zero Logic
Image
One of the best things about the Harry Potter franchise is how the fandom remains as alive and bubbling as when the books were first released. Recently, a fan on Reddit pointed out how, of all the twisted dynamics in the series, the treatment of food and punishment in the Dursley household might be one of the most telling and absurd.

Nowhere is this more obvious than in Goblet of Fire, where Dudley is suddenly put on a harsh diet. One morning, Harry describes their breakfast as a single quarter of a grapefruit. Whether Harry’s description is slightly exaggerated or not, the truth is clear: the Dursleys operate in extremes, either gross overindulgence or cold, calculated cruelty, with no room for logic or healthy balance in between.

Nick Frost Transforms Into Hagrid in First Look at HBO’s Upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ Series
Image
Nick Frost is the new Hagrid in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series. Fans got their first look at him in the famous half-giant’s robes, which were first worn by the late Robbie Coltrane in the original movies.

The image was shared just one day after HBO showed the first official photo of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter himself. Cameras started rolling yesterday at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

Via HBO

Hagrid is one of the most loved characters from the books and movies. He’s the gamekeeper at Hogwarts, loves magical creatures, and has always been loyal to Dumbledore. He’s also one of the first people Harry meets in the first story. HBO’s version of the character looks close to what fans remember, though Nick Frost brings his own take to the role.

When does the series come out?

The HBO series officially began production on July 14, 2025, with HBO confirming that the series is planning to premiere sometime in 2027.

Harry Potter: Everything We Know About the Upcoming HBO Series Reimagining
Image
What Do We Know About the upcoming HBO series reimagining the Harry Potter franchise? More than you may think. The new adaptation of the beloved J.K. Rowling book series is set to be a more expansive adaptation than the feature film series. From plot, casting news, and more, let’s dive in and take a look at what is coming up in the new take on the Harry Potter universe.

Why a series remake of Harry Potter so soon?

When the first Harry Potter novel debuted in 1997, it took just two years for David Heyman to land the rights to the first four books in the series. It then took two more years to transform the first book into the Chris Columbus feature film, which became a box office behemoth for the decade. But, as the books became longer and more epic, the movie needed to select which subplots and...

Hogwarts has reopened for a new term.

HBO’s “Harry Potter” TV series — the long-awaited and much-hyped return to J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world — has officially started production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K., almost 14 years to the day that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” concluded Harry’s journey on the big screen.

The show has also revealed a first look at Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, smiling in costume with the character’s signature round glasses and school uniform. McLaughlin is joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The young trio were selected from more than 30,000 actors who auditioned in a casting call last fall.

Amid Paapa Essiedu Controversy, HBO’s Harry Potter Reboot Quietly Made the Best Casting No One Noticed
Image
Every remake or reboot gives creators a golden chance to fix the mistakes of the past. And HBO’s Harry Potter reboot seems to be doing just that! While fans are busy debating Paapa Essiedu’s controversial casting as Severus Snape, no one’s noticing the genius move the show quietly made—the Dursleys!

In the original films, the Dursleys looked way older than the spiteful, young couple described in the books. But HBO’s version finally gets it right with Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby as Petunia and Vernon. By casting younger actors, the show promises a fresh, more accurate take on Harry’s cruel Muggle relatives. Let’s see how this small change can fix things.

HBO’s Harry Potter reboot is visually aligning the Dursleys with the book’s timeline

In the original Harry Potter films, the Dursleys came across as cranky older figures who seemed stuck in their ways.

'So, So, So Good': J.K. Rowling Shares High Praise for the Upcoming Harry Potter Reboot
Image
The upcoming Harry Potter TV show is getting closer. After the announcement of a series of cast members for the upcoming HBO Max show, the series has just received feedback from author J.K. Rowling.

Although Rowling's views on the transgender community have caused her backlash in the last few years, the author will be involved in the new version of Harry Potter. On June 22, the author wrote on X that she had read the first two episodes and shared her opinion on them.

12 Cut Harry Potter Movie Subplots That Should Be In The HBO Series
Image
Nearly 15 years after the conclusion of the "Harry Potter" film franchise, and almost 20 years since the release of J.K. Rowling's final novel, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," Warner Bros. is teaming up with HBO to produce an all-new TV series based on the beloved books. We've already met many members of the cast, and while details remain scarce, it's safe to assume the show will stick more closely to the source material, perhaps even expanding on moments the films had to omit.

Yes, the movies are genuine classics -- well, most of them, anyway -- and the various directors and writers did their best to adapt Rowling's massive texts into feature-length films suitable for general audiences. But that meant many important characters and plot threads were either glossed over or cut entirely.

With 8–10 hours at their disposal per season, the "Harry Potter" TV series showrunners should have more...

'Harry Potter' HBO Reboot Set Photos Reveal Platform 9 ¾ Construction
Image
HBO's Harry Potterreboot series is set to enter production this summer at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire, UK, and ahead of filming starting up, work is underway on building some important spots for the young witches and wizards to navigate. New photos from the set of the much-buzzed-about adaptation have made their way online, showing the construction of iconic locations such as Platform 9 ¾ and what looks to be Diagon Alley (the place for all your bits and bobs for doing your wizardry).

The images, which arrive courtesy of UnBoxPHD on X/Twitter (seen below), offer a first glimpse of Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, or simply Platform 9 ¾, where Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger famously boarded the Hogwarts Express to travel to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The building work reveals a tall structure with a pointed roof, high above the railway track and platform where passengers will congregate.

The Harry Potter reboot is finally handing out its Hogwarts letters, and the Dursleys just cut. An Original Harry Potter Star Endorses Their "Brilliant" Replacement in Magical New Video
Image
The Harry Potter TV series continues to conjure excitement as HBO’s new cast takes shape — and one iconic member of the original films has just passed the wand in the most charming way possible. Earlier today, Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed a fresh batch of cast members for the upcoming adaptation, including Johnny Flynn as the elegantly villainous Lucius Malfoy.

That news lit up social media faster than a Lumos spell, and among those reacting was none other than Jason Isaacs, who originated the role of Lucius in the film series. Rather than clutch his snake-headed cane in protest, Isaacs gave Flynn his blessing — even if he confessed to being irritated by just how good Flynn is. Posting to X, Isaacs retweeted the casting announcement and wrote:

“She’s Allowed Her Opinion": Harry Potter's New Hagrid Explains Why He Hopes the J.K. Rowling Controversy Doesn't "Blow Over"
Image
Things are moving quickly on the new Harry Potter series in the works at HBO Max, and one of the show’s biggest stars has finally addressed a part of the series drenched in controversy. Nick Frost was cast to play Hagrid in the upcoming Harry Potter show, a role which previously belonged to Robbie Coltrane and briefly Martin Bayfield. The creator of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling, has been a vocal supporter of anti-trans propaganda and movements, even donating upwards of 70,000 euros to For Women Scotland, a group which is in the midst of a legal battle with the UK’s Supreme Court over whether biologically born males can legally become female.

Frost announced the Hagrid casting on his official Instagram in April, and he ultimately decided to disable comments after facing backlash from trans-rights supporters for collaborating with Rowling, who is an EP on the new series. Frost is a supporter of trans rights,...

HBO's Harry Potter Series Casts The Malfoys And Other Key Characters (And Everyone Has One Thing In Common)
Image
A handful of major roles for HBO's "Harry Potter" TV show have been cast, and when it comes to the adult actors, they all have one big thing in common: They're significantly younger than the actors who originated their roles in the "Harry Potter" film series.

According to a press release directly from Warner Bros. and HBO, nine actors have been added to the cast, which includes the main trio and a bunch of professors at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (Albus Dumbledore included). Katherine Parkinson, known for small screen projects like "Humans" and "The It Crowd," will portray Molly Weasley, the matriarch of the Weasley family played by Julie Walters in the films and mother of Ron (Alastair Stout is set to star as Ron). Nobody has picked up the mantle of the late Helen McCrory as Narcissa Malfoy as of this writing, but her son Draco, originally played by Tom Felton,...

Bel Powley
Bel Powley & more added to cast of ‘Harry Potter’ series
Bel Powley
Bel Powley is the latest amongst a line of actors added to the cast of the highly anticipated ‘Harry Potter’ series.

Powley and Daniel Rigby will star as the elder Dursleys in the upcoming small-screen adaptation of the J.K. Rowling book series. Yet to be cast is their son, Dudley. Petunia was the sister of Harry’s mother, Lily. The Dursleys grudgingly take Harry in after his parents’ death, forcing him to live in a cupboard under the stairs and essentially treating him like a servant rather than their nephew. The pair were originally played by Fiona Shaw and Richard Griffiths in the film franchise.

Also added to the show’s cast are Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy and Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.

HBO's 'Harry Potter' Reboot Casts Two of the Most Hated Characters in the Franchise
Image
The most disliked adoptive parents in young adult fiction have just been cast, as HBO's Harry Potter reboot series has found its Dursleys. The cast list for the new reboot series is growing larger with each passing month. Fans already know who will play the core faculty at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and, most recently, the iconic trio, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, were also cast. Before Harry was enrolled at Hogwarts, he had to be rescued from his wicked relatives, and we finally know who will bring the despised Dursley family to life in the show.

Variety reports that HBO has cast Vernon and Petunia Dursley, the uncle and aunt of Harry Potter, who take him in after his parents are killed by Voldemort. Joining the already impressive cast of the show are Bel Powley as Petunia and Daniel Rigby as Vernon. Powley is best...

Harry Potter Series Cast Petunia & Vernon Dursley With Masters Of The Air & Black Mirror Stars
Image
HBO has officially cast Master of the Air and Black Mirror stars to play Petunia and Vernon Dursley in the upcoming Harry Potter TV show. Petunia, previously played by Fiona Shaw, is Harry's maternal aunt and the older sister of Lily Potter. She and her husband, Vernon, played by the late Richard Griffiths in the Harry Potter movies, reluctantly took Harry in as a baby and kept his status as a wizard a dark secret. These characters should have especially prominent roles in the first season of the Harry Potter remake, making their casting all the more critical.

According to Variety, Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby have been officially cast to play Petunia and Vernon Dursley in HBO's Harry Potter. Powley is credited in TV shows like Masters of the Air (2024) and The Morning Show (2021), in addition to her film credits in The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015), White Boy Rick...

Harry Potter Reboot Finds Its Elder Dursleys (& Fans of the Books Will Be Excited)
Image
Harry Potter's uncle and aunt have been cast. HBO's upcoming series adaptation of J.K. Rowling's fan-favorite book series has found its elder Dursleys, and their casting should excite longtime fans of the franchise.

Per Variety, Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby have been added to the ensemble cast of Harry Potter as Petunia and Vernon Dursley, the maternal aunt and uncle of Harry, respectively. An actor for their son, Dudley, has not yet been cast. At ages 33 and 42, Powley and Rigby are far closer in age to the Dursleys in Rowling's novels than their respective movie actor counterparts, Fiona Shaw and Richard Griffiths, who were 43 and 54 at the time the first movie was released. HBO has repeatedly described the upcoming show as a "faithful adaptation" of the source material, and this casting proves that the new Harry Potter will be paying more attention to how young or old certain characters were in the novels.

‘Harry Potter’ HBO Series Casts Bel Powley, Daniel Rigby as Petunia and Vernon Dursley (Exclusive)
Image
The “Harry Potter” TV series at HBO has found its Petunia and Vernon Dursley.

Variety has learned exclusively that Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby will star as the elder Dursleys in the upcoming small screen adaptation of the J.K. Rowling book series. Yet to be cast is their son, Dudley.

Fans of the books will recall that Petunia was the sister of Harry’s mother, Lily. The Dursleys grudgingly take Harry in after his parents’ death, forcing him to live in a cupboard under the stairs and essentially treating him like a servant rather than their nephew. Petunia and Vernon were played by Fiona Shaw and Richard Griffiths in the “Harry Potter” film franchise.

As previously announced, Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry, Arabella Stanton is Hermione, and Alastair Stout is Ron. Other cast members include: John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape,...

Tom Felton Returning as Draco Malfoy for New Harry Potter Project
Image
HBO’s Harry Potter series has cast its Golden Trio and Snape, along with a slew of other characters. However, it seems that Tom Felton is also returning to reprise his iconic role- but this time, it’s on the stage instead of the silver screen.

Draco Malfoy will be played by Tom Felton in the Broadway run of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, where the actor will be portraying an older version of the role that he played in the Warner Bros. films from 2001 to 2011.

New Looney Tunes Movie Sets HBO Max Streaming Date After the Series Was Removed
Image
HBO Max has finally announced when The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie will be available for streaming on their catalog. Audiences will be able to enjoy the animated project in the comfort of their homes on June 27. The film placed Porky Pig and Daffy Duck (both characters voiced by Eric Bauza) in the middle of a dangerous adventure, after the protagonists have spent decades entertaining multiple generations through their appearances in the Looney Tunesfranchise. The latest effort from Warner Bros. animation was recently seen on the big screen, but the title's box office performance left much to be desired.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie follows Porky and Daffy as they are forced to find money in order to repair their house after a devastating alien attack. The characters have been friends since they were children, with a farmer kindly taking on...

First Harry Potter HBO TV Series Set Photos Reveal A Key Location From The Books
Image
We're getting our first look at the new "Harry Potter" series already, thanks to a shot of what appears to be the set for 4 Privet Drive.

During his summers away from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the titular Harry Potter — who was played by Daniel Radcliffe in the original film franchise and, as of this writing, will be played by a young unknown in the TV show — is forced to spend time with his non-magical Muggle relatives, the Dursleys. Not only are the Dursleys really mean to Harry, but Privet Drive, in the fictional town of Little Whinging, just seems like an unpleasant place to spend time. Based on social media posts, it looks like the Privet Drive set — meaning, the "entire" street — is being built right now.

There are some specific reasons why this is notable. First of all, we know some of the cast of HBO's forthcoming "Harry Potter" series,...

The Only Harry Potter Star Who Thought Daniel Radcliffe Was a Terrible Kisser and It Was Not Emma Watson
Image
While Harry Potter may have defeated Voldemort, aced his O.W.L.s, and saved the Wizarding World as the Chosen One, there’s one thing he just couldn’t conquer: Ginny Weasley’s lips. Yup, you heard that right! Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny and literally married Harry in the movies, once called Daniel Radcliffe a terrible kisser.

Now, to make it even spicier, Cho Chang actress Katie Leung and Hermione Granger star Emma Watson had nothing but praise for Daniel Radcliffe’s smooching skills. So, it seems that according to Bonnie Wright’s standards, poor Harry was too busy dodging Death Eaters to brush up on his kissing charms.

Daniel Radcliffe couldn’t match up to Bonnie Wright’s kissing expectations

Harry might have married Ginny and had three kids, but Daniel Radcliffe struggled mightly in living up to his onscreen wife, Bonnie Wright’s expectations. After all,...

10 Most Powerful Muggles in Harry Potter, Ranked
Image
Muggles might not be the main focus of the Harry Potterseries, but the characters often affect the plot, change the ways of the Wizarding World, and become targets for dark wizards. While Muggles don't have magic, they often find other impressive ways to protect their friends or to fight wizards. In fact, they are so ingenious that wizards and witches are terribly afraid of them, even hiding their society.

There are evil people in both the Wizarding World and the Muggle World, but there are also heroes on both sides. It's up to each Muggle, or No-Maj as they call them in the United States, to choose how they will use their particular power. Harry suffered at the hands of the Dursley family, but other Muggles have been the heroes of their stories.

Mad 'Looney Tunes' is No Longer on Max? You Can Now Pre-Order 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' on Blu-Ray
Image
It's been a rough time being a Looney Tunes fan lately. Warner Brothers just took the classic cartoons off Max and, up until this week, the famous studio wasn't going to release their completed live-action/animated hybrid adventure Coyote vs. Acme. In an unprecdented move, that film is currently in talks to be saved by Ketchup Entertainment. This is the same company that recently released The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. Now, to celebrate this recent Looney Tunes development, you can pre-order The Day the Earth Blew Up on Blu-ray.

The Blu-ray edition of The Day the Earth Blew Up is currently up for pre-order on Amazon for $26.98 Usd. There's no official cover art for the release yet, simply a placeholder image featuring the film's main poster. This has Daffy Duck and Porky Pig being abducted by a spaceship. However, the physical media version has a release date of Tuesday,...

Ben Affleck
Interview: Eric Bauza and Candi Milo get looney as Daffy, Porky, and Petunia for The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie
Ben Affleck
When people talk about iconic duos in cinema, they tend to bring pairings like Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and Al Pacino and Robert De Niro to the table. However, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig are the ones I think about when asked to name an iconic duet. I’ve been asking the cinematic gods above for a new film starring two of my favorite Looney Tunes for years. This year, we’ve got The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, an animated send-up to the science-fiction films of yesteryear starring Daffy, Porky, and Petunia. What could be better than that for an old Looney Tunes head like me? Interviewing Eric Bauza and Candi Milo (Petunia Pig), the voice actors behind characters that helped pour the foundation of an entertainment art form I love more than any other genre.

During my chat with Eric and Candi,...

4 Irish actors to spend your St. Patrick's Day with on Netflix
Image
March 17 is...you guessed it, St. Patrick's Day. The day when Americans celebrate their Irish heritage. Yeah, it might be an important day elsewhere in the world, but Ireland does not celebrate in the same way.

That is fine because the great island has given us a lot of acting talent for a total population of just around seven million. The great actors per capita for the Irish are likely better than nearly any other populace. That means the culture is ripe to produce excellence.

Of course, not every wonderful actor from the Irish island (we are including Northern Ireland here as part of the complete island) has a film featured on Netflix. Several do, however. In fact, the actors below have more than one film streaming on Netflix, so there is a lot to watch on St. Patrick's Day.

This Is Why Bugs Bunny Doesn’t Even Appear in the New Looney Tunes Movie, ‘The Day the Earth Blew Up’
Image
The Looney Tunes have been entertaining us for nearly a century, yet in all that time, they’ve never had their own fully animated theatrical movie. Sure, they’ve appeared in hybrid movies like Space Jam and compilation films that cram old shorts together in new packaging, but a brand new, full-on cartoon movie has never been done — until now.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, which is set to be released today, tells the story of an alien invasion thwarted by Daffy Duck and Porky Pig (along with some help from Petunia Pig). Inspired by the classic Looney Tunes shorts of Bob Clampett, The Day the Earth Blew Up is a hilarious, gag-filled adventure that keeps the characters fresh, fun, and most of all, funny for its entire 91 minutes.

The film’s director, Pete Browngardt — best known for creating Cartoon Network’s Uncle Grandpa — first...

The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie – Review
Image
This weekend sees a big “first” for two media superstars that have been in the pop culture “zeitgeist” for ninety years! Well, that’s one of them because his “partner” is actually a couple of years shy of that (still impressive). So, how can they still be working in a new flick, let alone pulling off some amazing stuntwork that would make Tom Cruise envious? Okay, ya’ got me. They are cartoon characters, so they never really age (any wrinkles can be easily erased). They aren’t from the “mouse house”, rather they’re from one of the main Disney rivals in the short subjects market, though many would say that their home base really had no rivals for consistently hilarious cartoons from the 1930s to the early 60s. And they’ve never been the stars of a full-length feature, though they have had “supporting roles” in a few. So,...

‘The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie’ Review: A Delight for Kids and Adults Alike
Image
Persistence sure does pay off. Porky Pig and Daffy Duck have been gracing screens since 1935 and 1937, respectively, but it took until now for them to star in their own full-length film, the first completely animated Looney Tunes feature to ever hit the big screen (how is that possible?). The results were worth the wait: The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is a consistent pleasure that should delight youngsters as well as nostalgic adults. It’s a shame that the folks at Warner Bros. didn’t honor their past but instead declined to release the film. Fortunately, indie distributor Ketchup Entertainment has come to the rescue. That studio has a more fun name anyway.

Don’t look for appearances by Tweety, Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd or any of the other better-known Looney Tunes characters in this effort, which gives Porky and Daffy center stage. Except that Porky does deserve a love interest,...

'The Day the Earth Blew Up' Review | Return of the Tunes
Image
Daffy Duck and Porky Pig attempt to thwart an insidious alien invader in a funny but exceedingly wacky original theatrical adventure. The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Moviegives the beloved childhood icons a 2D, hand-drawn cinematic canvas for total chaos and buffoonery. The screwball plot mostly delights as zany twists run amok until a wild ending that honestly overreaches. The bag of nuts tastes yummy until it doesn't. The filmmakers deserve a golf clap for creativity and stoking fandom's nostalgia, but should have reigned in the hijinks for the bonkers finale.

The Day the Earth Blew Up opens with Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, both voiced by the Emmy-winning and supremely talented Eric Bauza, as youngsters in a precarious predicament. Farmer Jim (Fred Tatasciore) saves the troublesome tykes and becomes an adopted father trying to corral their ridiculous shenanigans. Daffy grows to be intense and uncontrollable while...

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie Review: An Enjoyable Exercise in Updated Nostalgia
Image
We’ve had Looney Tunes for nearly a century. Leon Schlesinger produced their first short Sinkin’ in the Bathtub alongside animators Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising in 1930. Almost 100 years later, the only Looney Tunes feature films (outside of theatrically released compilations) have been two Space Jams, 2003’s Looney Tunes: Back in Action, the tragically unreleased Coyote vs. Acme, and now the latest offering: The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.

Directed by Peter Browngardt, this is a charming affair. Modeled after sci-fi B-movies of the 1950s and starring Looney Tunes legends Porky Pig and Daffy Duck (both voiced by Eric Bauza), The Day the Earth Blew Up starts with a UFO landing. The spacecraft takes off on the roof of Porky and Daffy’s broken-down house (bequeathed to them by surrogate father Farmer Jim) just before crashing. It goes on to infect a local scientist (Fred Tatasciore...

Harry's 10 Funniest Scenes in Harry Potter (That the Movies Left Out)
Image
It's important to remember the ongoing controversial statements by the creator of the Harry Potter franchise. Cbr supports the hard work of industry professionals on properties fans know and love and the wider world of Harry Potter that fans have adopted as their own. You can find Cbr's continuing coverage on J.K. Rowling here.

TheHarry Potter book series has many funny characters. But when talking about funny characters and moments in the saga, many remember the Weasley twins and their pranks. Yet there was one other character who was quite hilarious, a bit sassy, and who used sarcasm on a daily basis: Harry himself. However, the Harry Potter movies don't do Harry's humor justice.

Harry Potter had a much stronger personality in the book series. He would talk back to Dudley or his Uncle Vernon, and even to some Hogwarts teachers or to his biggest bully, Draco Malfoy. However, the...
